Retracing our steps in Edinburgh! | This really IS goodbye, Scotland... 😢

  • We began our final day in Edinburgh with something VERY different from anything else we'd experienced on the trip. But afterwards, it was time for a "greatest hits" day, where we retraced our steps from our first time in the city (with a few deviations here and there). It was emotional knowing we were leaving this place for good this time... but as we've hinted, this is NOT goodbye forever. We're coming back to Scotland in the near future -- for something BIG.

It's crazy the way life works and how one can be emotionally affected by a pair of strangers on the internet who have fallen in love with the city of your birth. But that's truly how it is with me. I genuinely adore watching how much you seem to enjoy Edinburgh and, daft as it sounds, I feel somewhat bereft that you've had to leave again.
A few notes about your vid...
6:25 - The building with the red in it is the old Tolbooth Kirk and is now the 'Hub' - an arts and events centre.
7:40 - The water that you sea is the Firth of Forth which separates Edinburgh (which is in the county of Midlothian) from the county of Fife.
14:10 - "There might be a sword shipping to the U.S. We'll talk about it in a minute" - You DIDN'T talk about it after this point so all I've got to say is that it *better* be getting shipped! The crisis of conscience that we've all had to witness is too much to bear. It's like some soap opera that constantly leaves us hanging as to whether the starcrossed lovers will ever become a couple. 😋
14:25 - I know for 'all y'all' (God, I love American expressions) young uns that it's Hairy Snotter who gets you excited, but the most historically famous resident of Greyfriars Kirkyard is John Gray. He was buried there in the mid 19th century and according to legend his devoted Skye terrier Bobby never left his graveside, ergo Greyfriars Bobby. Vandals unfortunately destroyed Mr Gray's grave a few years back. I despair for this world.
19:00 - While you are lamenting not getting to the top of Arthur's Seat, let me try and make you feel better... the view from Calton Hill is the best one in the city hands down. In my opinion you only need to climb up a little of Arthur's Seat to get the best views you'll see from it, i.e. of Holyrood Palace and of St Margaret's Loch.
Anyway, your description box says you'll be returning to Scotland for something big, so I'll just wait patiently for the invitation to your wedding here in the post!😉 Thanks again for the fantastic content.🙂

I never tire of our trips to Edinburgh - so pleased you love that amazing city. Our next trip will be our annual trip to the Christmas Market and we're looking forward to sitting by the fire with a pint in the Thistle Street Bar, an amazing wee pub just 5-10 minutes walk from Waverley Station. Bliss 😊

I'm moving back to Edinburgh in a few weeks! When you return to Edinburgh go to the Stockbridge area - absolutely gorgeous buildings, beautiful river walk and very few tourists around there. Also, make sure you wander round the New Town with its incredible classical architecture. 😃

    Hi you two.
An American here, who has followed your journey every week.
I live in Edinburgh. I first moved here from California in 1999. I’m fortunate to now call it my forever home.
I fully understand your passion for this city. I’ve lived in many different cities (and countries), but nothing comes close to how much I feel a profound connection to this place.
I hope you’ll be back one day soon.

@@qlctravels Don’t know if you follow the Magic Geekdom couple. But they came back to the UK for 6 months. As that’s how long Americans can stay in the UK without a visa. Very interesting couple. You should get in touch with them.
FWIW, I was able to stay here because my husband was Scottish. I achieved a visa and then citizenship that way. My son is Scottish. He was basically raised in Edinburgh.

Loved when Bryan said goodbye to Victoria street , Lauren (who loved it first time ) didn’t look and just said “yeah” and straight back to her phone ( which she does a lot on her travels) 😂😂

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels  วันที่ผ่านมา

In fairness, the combination of her little exclamation right before the "yeah" and her tone was more of an "it hurts to keep acknowledging we're leaving" as opposed to indifference. We spent plenty of off-camera time lamenting saying goodbye, so trust me, she had no less love for Victoria Street the second time around! 😊
I should perhaps also point out that whenever Lauryn is on her phone while we're out and about, it's because she's using Google Maps to guide us. 95% of the time on this trip, I was the cameraman while she was the navigator (hence why it's usually shots of the camera following her, and so rarely the opposite).

@@qlctravels wasn’t a criticism Bryan, I just found it funny , maybe you know someone in the TV world who could help with the editing 🤔 ( I jest ) and I could tell she was on google maps, she had that look that I recognise when I’m trying to read the map on the phone 😉
I was born and bred in Edinburgh and taken all the sights sounds and history all for granted but I stay in Fife now( Kirkcaldy ) check out the Fife coast next time your over.
Looking forward to seeing your future vlogs …..p.s did you buy the sword 🗡️?

We definitely have plans to explore Scotland more thoroughly next time, so we'll add the Fife coast to the list. Looks to be super close to Edinburgh, so maybe we rent a vehicle and make our way around the country, making that a first stop.
PS: A sword may have been purchased, yes 😊 But not the one I spent so much time ogling in these videos.
PPS: Indeed, Lauryn's eyes hold much power. They are to be both loved and feared 😋

When you come back, take some time and travel round Scotland. Yes visit the cities but maybe head to some of the fishing villages on the East Neuk of Fife or the Moray Firth. Go to the northwest for the best scenery - mountains, beaches, seascapes. Take in an Island or two - Orkney for its history, Lewis and Harris for it beaches, Islay and Jura for the Sea Food, whisky and history. Perthshire for some autumnal colour and come to Edinburgh in the winter and take in Hogmany, the christmas market, the cosy winter pub scene. The sword will look great on your wall 🙂
