"How do you give that a 3 you madman?! Do you look at a sunset and give it a 3?! Do you look at a beautiful white horse galloping across the fields and say, that's a 3?! Do you look at me ready to dive into the Pacific Ocean with my speedos on and give it a 3?!" I'm doubled over with laughter right now
Caspar is correct. In the book Fellowship, Aragorn takes Frodo to the hill of Cerin Amroth, in Lothlorien, where the Elanor flowers grow. This is where (in the books) Aragorn and Arwen earlier vowed their love for one another, so when Frodo finds him here Aragorn is lost in that sweet memory. Much much later, after Aragorn dies, Arwen returns to Cerin Amroth and passes away there. Also, the Elanor flowers of Lothlorien made a real impression on Sam, as he names one of his daughters Elanor. This is a lovely episode and Caspar and Billy's music is just fantastic. If there is some way to share Caspar's recipe for Dreamcake, that would be a treat! Thanks as always -- Steven
Both Legolas and Gimli went to the undying lands in the same boat. Gimli was allowed to go because Galadriel retained an affection for him and she was in Valinor at the time. Also because he was a part of the fellowship. I think these reasons were referred to in Tolkien's appendixes.
To add to this, Gimli was the Dwarf that repaired the relations between both Dwarves and Elves, which was another reason for his allowance to go. So much like Aragorn, he was responsible for reuniting multiple kindreds in the end, to repair the harms of the world at Morgoth's hand.
In the back of my head I was thinking Legolas petitioned for Gimli to be allowed; I think I do recall the Galadriel angle now though. Maybe I personally penned in the friendship section.
@@AxeMan808 maybe gimli went because when he said, ‘Well, what are we waiting for…?’ in the movie and his axe tried to crush the ring, in that instant he was a ring bearer?
Gimli did indeed travel to the Undying Lands, accompanying Legolas. He was allowed to go mostly due to his close friendship with Legolas. Galadriel may have also had a say in the matter as she seemed particularly fond of Gimli.
Both Gimli and Galadriel were made exceptions to be allowed into Valinor. Gimli because his friendship with Legolas and the work they did together after the War Of The Ring healed the rift between the Elves and the Dwarfs that had existed since the trouble in Doriath in the First Age; and Galadriel as one of the Noldor who left Valinor to follow Feanor, and she was allowed back into Valinor because she refused the Ring when offered it by Frodo.

Billy! I saw the bit you posted on Instagram and you’re voice is absolutely gorgeous! Of course I’ve listened to The Last Goodbye but I just wanted to tell you! ♥️
"Drømmekage" is the best! My mother often makes ice cream. I will ask her if she would make a dream cake ice cream. And I love all the danish subjects first with Elijas wife and "smørrebrød" and now this. Last but not least these podcasts make my day. They are simply fantastic
I just wanted to say Thank You for the wonderful music, Billy and Casper. I was having an extremely bad day as I found out a highschool friend had passed away so the music was both beautiful and comforting. Billy you have an amazing voice and my husband and I have been a fan of your band Beecake for many years now. Love the podcast!! ❤💚
I immediately get teary eyed every time I hear Billy sing 🥹 he has the most magical voice, I really loved this episode end. Thanks Casper, Billy and Dom!
I want to cry. This song reaches deep. I will definitely make the Dream Cake for my Danish American mom. Thank you Billy and Dom. You always make me smile. Love you
I guessed the Hill of Amroth, but I never would’ve thought of it if not for the Tolkien Ensemble! Amon Hen was my second choice! And the riddle did specify an eleven place “past” Lothlorien, and if we figure Fellowship directions, it was that or where Aragorn found the White Tree. Feels like the Aragorn part was a bit of a Red Herring. Beautiful. And just fantastic to see these two episodes and learn about the history of this music I’ve loved for years!
I am a regular listener on Spotify on my commute to work. I enjoy the podcast very much! Just had to say how much I loved the song at the end. Billy, your voice is so lovely and the song is beautiful. I had to bring it up on TH-cam again and then show my boys who are musicians as well.
I love that Dom is playing Elden Ring! As a huge fantasy nerd, it's like a dream come true playing that game. Beautiful vistas, mystical creatures, deep lore, and lots of wondrous magic. The learning curve can be steep with the Souls games, but once you warm up to it, there's nothing better!
This was such a wonderful episode! Caspar was an amazing guest! I'll have to look up his LOTR music now 😊 It was so great to hear Billy singing too, he has an angelic voice 💘 I also loved how enthusiastic he was about the cake 😂
Billy and Caspar that was amazing. Fantastic, beautiful and soulful work. You two should do a duet album, some Tolkien classics and old folk tunes from your homelands.
Friends Caspar and Billy and Dom - This episode was truly collectable. Thank you for this experience; it's a 'keeper!' And, Billy I'll buy you all the Spanish Brandy you want if you'll do 'Where It Began' the next time I see you! ;)
I made a cake like this in the 60's and 70's in SoCal. Had butter, nuts if you want, coconut, and brown sugar broiled on the top. It's an old, well-known recipe.
Nobody has commented this yet, so allow me: you didn't blew the riddle. Cerin Amroth is in Lothlorien. So it was just more specific place. Also some trivia: Elanor flowers grow there and Sam names her firstborn after those flowers because he thinks they are very beautiful. There was lot of other hints too of right answer like the beautiful trees since mellyrn are very beautiful trees because of their golden flowers and green/silver leaves. :)
Billy and Dom, the faves always 🤩 Thanks you guys for being you 💙 PS the sound with Dom away is honestly not that bad! I think that we all do forgive you lol
One of my favorite episodes and one of my favorite guests. Caspar is SO talented! I loved it when he and Billy sang together. Please have him back! And I would love to see more musicians in the studio! ❤️

Been catching up on the episodes and I love listening to you both, you have such a beautiful friendship! Gonna have to try this cake recipe and his guitar playing was beautiful! I came to this episode after watching a very heartfelt response to the events in Ukraine, and all I can say is that Dom Magnolia Again made my day. Nothing like Mr Manganese Gander to turn things around.
The Undying Lands are for the Valar, Maiar, and Eldar (Elves). Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam got to go because they were Ringbearers. Gimli got to go for unspecified reasons, but it is likely that Galadriel spoke for him to the Valar and he was granted the permission to go as Elf-friend, having aided in the quest against Sauron and done well to mend the relationship between Elves and Dwarves.
Hey Billy and Dom. Ive been enjoying the podcast ever since the first episodes and am a huge LOTR fan from New Zealand. Ive got two questions and this first ones for Billy... When and Why did you start creating Music. And for Dom.. During the filming of the LOTR did you ever have a acting role model on set or in other films? Keep up the podcast and goodbye.
Psyched to hear you're playing Elden Ring, Dom.. if you guys set up a Twitch account and streamed your gaming adventures (Elden Ring, LOL, and anything else you dabble in), I (and I think many others) would be ecstatic and would love to watch you!
I think like a few other people said I think the reason Gimli was allowed into the undying lands was because Legolas refused to leave him behind. I’m just not sure why Sam was allowed maybe because he was a ring bearer at one point? Or without him the quest wouldn’t of been completed?
People have noted why Gimili was permitted, but let's consider how great an allowance this was and how highly Gimili must have been regarded. Dwarve themselves were not in Eru's design (God's design) for the world. They were actually kind of an abomination, created by Aule one of his greatest servants because he was tired of waiting for the coming of Men into the world. When caught, he repented and raised his hammer to sacrifice his creation. But Eru pardoned him and actually adopted Dwarves and breathed actual life and free will into them. Just think it's good context for thinking about it. Ultimately, it's up to Eru Illuvatar to allow anyone onto the Undying Lands.
Just made the cake… are those numbers correct? That’s a lot of sugar. And butter. I could only put half of the topping on. No more would fit without pouring over the edge of the tin. Topping tastes pretty great though. 🙂
Raising the Gimli Question, it makes me ponder whether he’d be offered a choice between the Fates of Dwarves and Elves like Elrohir and Elrond bc of his friendship with Legolas.
I'm guessing at the riddle before they reveal the answer, it's either Lotglorien, Caras Galadhorn(probably butchered spelling), or the specific hill aragorn was standing on when he took frodos hand and Tolkien said he would never return, which I don't know the name of
Gimli went because Legolas invited him and Galaderial spoke in his favour to the valar. APART from that Billy was bang on about Sam being a ring bearer.

I never thought about Galadriel, but that’s a good point. If that’s the case, it tracks, because who’s gonna tell her no?
Both Gimli and Galadriel were made exceptions to be allowed into Valinor.
