    EEVblog, I found the answer to one thing you mentioned in the original review of this power supply. To get to memory 5, or M5 press M4 and turn the rotary encoder. Funny how they did this!

    Nice follow up. Still a cheap power supply, but at least you do know that the design is good, and that the manufacturer does stand behind the product and is willing to do any changes to improve the reliability of it. Makes for a good relationship, and a good plus for both Korad and Charles for being so open about the issue and for resolving it. Like the respin on the power board, now the semis are not stressed by soldering and assembly. Nice looking upgrade, and good work. Love the flip flops..

    10 years later and this power supply is still being marketed.
    These days, what would be the best option? Two of these or one Siglent SPD3303C?

  • @wiedapp
    @wiedapp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Hi, what about the big brother of it, the Korad KA3305D or P? Could you make a review of that too? I'm looking for something like that additionally, because one PSU with only one Voltage at a lab is just not enough.
    I like your reviews very much, you're my reference when it comes to electronics videos - few are at least equal.
    Just stick to it, you're the best!

    Dunno, but at 1:54 it looks like the bridge rectifier isn't actually touching the heatsink :P

    For me, its very rewarding to build things. Don't be disheartened about the lack of gear. Youll get it slowly over time. I started tinkering with an analog meter (MAVO35), a shitty soldering gun, recovered parts, plenty of wires and a homemade 12v max 500mA psu built and gifted to me by a HAM who happened to live in the same apartment building. If you feel joy building, Id say ,do it, even with less then ideal equipment. Build up from what you have.

    Things have moved on yet again with this power supply. The heat sink is a rather fancy extruded one with a separate area for the bridge rectifier. My only concern is the transformer has a 230 V label on it. My mains is around 245 V but I won't be hammering it. Nearly everything we get has the EU 230 V label but so far nothing has popped - yet.

    Dave, I went to your Amazon store to look for the Korad but it wasn't there. Also surprised you don't have the Anatek blue ESR meter listed since I just bought my kit a few weeks ago through Amazon. An essential piece of test equipment, IMO. Well, Happy New Year since you Aussies are a day ahead of the rest of the world.

    Hi,
    seems there is just another version with a slightly different board layout which just broke down on me. Purchased January 2014 in Germany, display showing 12.00V output is nine-ish with a couple of meters of led stripe drawing 1.5A and disabled protection / constant voltage mode.

    Korad ka3003p has better output specs than ka3005p, 1mv vs 2mv, 3ma vs 5ma, in output fluctuating, according to the specifications. Dave, could you verify this? You can do a comparison video with others, that will be interesting.

      all is relative as to in regards to what pricelevel-psu you comåpare to,, but as a 80US budget 150w liniar psu, it seems to perform pretty damn solid..
      there is a lot of users responses as in regards to reltive little spiking in this EEVthread, but there seems to be multiple batches and also newer then this where there is 3 caps on that board, where there is 1 in the video...(check here)

  • @DanPartelly

    for 100USD you can buy 3 precision opamps , a good transformer, several mosfets and roll a PSU which would outperform the advertised one 10:1.

  • @DanPartelly

    The downside it's that is not load regulated and has shitloads of noise. Anyway, for anyone who desires a high performance "low" cost PSU, google "chemelec super power supply". Understand the schematic (it's a discrete version of the obsolete MC1466L) and replace functional blocks with op-amps and drive jfets / mosfets at output. Your requirements may vary, but look into:
    OPA445, OPA452, OPA551(not most cheap) , AD549(expensive) , an AD or LT voltage reference.

  • @DanPartelly
    @DanPartelly 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can get shitloads for 100 USD, if you know how to choose the parts. Certainly much more than any low cost PSU. if you ask me they do not worth the money. Don't let yourself blinded by voltage displays with PICs and LED sgments, its not what it counts in a lab PSU. And for what it worts, if you want it fast, just use 2 LT 3083 and , fixed steps for current compliance and a 10 turn pot for voltage. Still beats the shit out of any low cost PSU.

    My Korad had the same issue with the new board. I'm done with this Chinese junk. From now on, on keep on saving money to buy Rohde & Schwartz or similar high end equipment. Granted you can buy a complete lab with Owon or Siglent stuff for the price of just a Rohde & Schwartz power supply, but at least you don't have to worry about the equipment failing or, even worse, destroying anything hooked up to it.
    Chinese just can't designing anything decent.
