This was a difficult performance to pull off. Rather than having a week between episodes, the show surprised the contestants by telling them they had 2 days before the next episode was taped so that the staff could take time off for a holiday. KZ and all the singers were getting very limited time with the show's band to work out song arrangements. In desperation, KZ called her guitarist friend in Manila and had him fly to Shanghai on less than 24 hours notice. He arrived the morning of the show, they worked out the arrangement in the afternoon and performed it that evening. As for KZ's love life and possible broken heart, I can't say anything about that, but at the time she performed this, she had been in a long term relationship with her boyfriend for at least 3-4 years, possibly longer. They married in 2021. So, if she did get her heart broken, it would have been as a teenager or when she was 20 or 21.
One of the very few artists and performers that I know who have the versatility in any genres (some are even put in one song) who can make us laugh, dance, sing, love and cry... She brings the best of any music she covered... majority are better than the originals.... & that's KZ!
I preferred this version to the original. The original told a more complete story of loss, but this version was far superior in creating the emotion that the original strove for.
You should check more chinese artists... They are many wonderful singers there, particularly Hua Chenyu (a music genius), Zhou Shen, KZ Tandingan, Fish Leong, Jay Chou...
I've had sleepless nights thinking about that super bottle of mayo. But bc of his beautiful clear blue eyes and KZ's very nice cover rendition of Say Something, I can somehow obliterate that super mayo😂!
