Wow how interesting. We have land adjoining this house. It was such a pity that it burned down in the seventies. One of my first memories is being there as a 3 year old at an auction .... I remember my father held me aloft and I could see a huge window ( the drawing room window I guess ) and I was well impressed ! I think the last person to live there was Miss Helena Kenny. Her brother was a MInister in the Cumann na nGael Government of the 1920s. The most famous incident of his campaigning was when one foolish man in a crowd listening to him campaign was instructed to ask him ... How many toes has a pig ? He replied , Take off your shoes and count them !! Legendary !!!!
My Great, Great Grandfather John Lynch was born in this house in 1796. His sister Elizabeth married Andrew Crean-Lynch. John was in the Irish Constabulary and served as a Sub-Inspector in Oranmore Galway and an Inspector in Galway city.
Hi David, my great grandfather worked for Clogher House at the gate lodge which was in turn the post office. My grandmother talked frequently of those times and I would love to hear from you. Best wishes.
@@declanprendergast1848 Oh wow. I live in Australia, my Great Grandfather John Nicholas Lynch (born in Oranmore, Galway) immigrated to Australia in 1863. His father John Lynch (my Great, Great Grandfather) who was born at Clogher, Mayo was in the Irish Constabulary in Oranmore, Galway.
