    I learned, 38 years after his passing, that my father was not only a weaver in his youth in Oaxaca but a maestro teaching the art.

    The spirit of the beautiful people of Mexico really comes through with this post. The kindness, intelligence, skill, and happiness of these incredibly family oriented people is something we, as Norte Americano's, need to cultivate more in our own personal lives….ps. your lip looks gorgeous!

    Thank you Corrin for that glimpse into the life of a weaver. When we buy or are gifted with this kind of work we now know the work that goes into this kind of art. You help us appreciate other cultures.

    Beautiful weaving! I loved listening to Benito and watching Jose work. Thank you for taking your time in Mexico to seek out people's stories. It is especially interesting that it is often the men in these villages who are the crafters and artist, and that they pass it down through the generations.

      FRESH PRINCESS I just watched the end. Wow, the colorful weaving is incredible! I didn't catch the name of the artist, but he is doing an amazing job. Whoever ends up with it will be truly blessed. Also, was that a funeral precession at the end? Or perhaps the start of a holiday?

      The weavers names are under the video. It was a funeral procession.

    I have never seen this side of Ole Mexico, it is beautiful, and friendly. Maybe sometime before the end of my life I will get to go and see for myself. Your videos almost let me smell the heat and dust, the lovely smell of Mexican food. I wait to see John Wayne, come around the corner, rolling a smoke and say" Well pilgrim, time we catch a pony and high-tail it back to Texas." Thank you for the videos.

    Those brick masonry balconies at the beginning are really something to see.
    Of course ALL masonry is hand-crafted, but I love seeing the really labor intensive stuff that the regional masons create.

    Very cool vid! I would love to own a >REAL< serape, meaning a hand woven one with the weave so tight that it is almost water proof. They seem to be hard to come by as many low quality machine made ones are advertised as handmade.

    Interesting how native weaving is almost identical no matter where you go in the americas, and another interesting thing is that the men weave in this area, some other areas the women weave like the navajo, I would love to spend the day learning the process

    • @Thefreshp
      @Thefreshp  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tracy Bruring I show you what I see. They leave because in many small towns there is no industry and no way to make money. The ones that leave go to work int eh US and send nearly all of their earnings back to their families in Mexico. The world is big and interesting if you get out in it.

      FRESH PRINCESS The same thing is happening all over the United States in small towns. Where I use to live it once was a thriving community and there were little reason to leave and go somewhere else and now it's all but dried up and younger people must leave in order to make a living for their families.
