- In today's video, I wanted to cover how to acclimate and treat/medicate your new pet crocodile skink! This guide will work for red-eyed crocodile skinks (Tribolonotus gracilis) and white-eyed crocodile skinks (Tribolonotus novaeguineae). Many of my viewers reach out, expressing difficulty with their skinks. I wanted to make this video in hopes that I can hopefully help you have the highest chance of success acclimating crocodile skinks!

I sincerely hope this video helps you learn about how I have been able to successfully acclimate crocodile skinks (Tribolonotus sp.) and how you can too! Remember to answer today's Question of the Day, and a special thanks goes to all my Reptiliatus Channel Patrons for their additional support! I think using paper towels for quarantine is the better option because it helps keep things clean and poops are easy to spot and monitor. As for the QOTD, I don't know that I ever want to breed animals. I agree, captive bred is the way to go in purchasing reptiles and I appreciate the effort put in by those who do so.
Absolutely! I’ve tried both and it just makes way more sense! Even for preventing a new parasite cycle. Thank you!
@@Reptiliatus Yes, that is another good reason!
The Mini Dragons are so cute and lovely! ❤
Great video! But now I think it would be good to follow up with a video about what to do when someone purchases a captive bred crocodile skink. Keep up the good work!
I feel like there needs to be more captive bred Emerald Tree boas (either locality). I’m interested in getting one eventually but definitely don’t want wild caught.
I just got a job at my local pet shop and we have one! thankfully the people I work with and am employed by know their stuff and practice excellent husbandry. It's such a treat to get to see this beautiful creature each day.
I absolutely love this kind of content. As much as we should focus on captive bred animals unless we are attempting to breed species to make them more available in the hobby, the fact remains that animals ARE taken from the wild. The very least we can do is everything in our power to ensure their successful transition to captivity. Excellent video as always.
this video was awesome thanks for letting me learn more about this species its awesome
Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
I don’t know if you were aware, but Magic: the Gathering just revealed the main characters of an upcoming set. The world is all animals and one of them is a red eyed skink! I immediately thought of you and had to share. This video reminded me. Even if you’re not a fan of the game, you should look it up. The set is called Bloomburrow and it looks like the skink will be a wizard 🤓
I love your Project Mini Dragon. Red Eye Crocodile Skinks are such beautiful creatures! To me, more needs to be done for Tokays. I see many wild caught on the market. They are so underrated just because of their attitude. I love my Tokay, attitude and all.
Thank you so much! Agreed! They are such great animals!
Thank you so much for this honest and detailed video! I feel like it is educational far beyond mini dragons to show the process of bringing in a WC lizard.
Personally I know I lack the expertise to ethically breed animals, and I don't want to keep enough to gain that expertise. So although it's exciting to see others' large collections and breeding efforts, the focus of my reptile keeping is probably going to stay "providing the best care and enrichment I can" to a small number of animals. :)
This has been such a nice project to follow along with. And the ways you handle your reptiles are something for everyone in the hobby to aspire to.
For the question of the day: Phelsuma Barbouri and Phelsuma Malamakibo the 2 known rock dwelling species.
Living in the highlands they require a very high temperature variation from day to night to thrive. They would require a separate room with airco or a basement.
I just got a captive bred female from joshs frogs here in Michigan! Now i need to find a captive bred male.
thanks for the information, love how you treat your animals.
Thank you! 🙏🏼 I do my best!
As far as which species need to be bred more in captivity. Emerald Tree Skinks. I just got my first pair about a month ago, and already I've bonded super deeply with them. I've never seen a reptile do the little foot dance that puppy dogs do, because they're SO excited to hop out of the enclosure. They sometimes hop onto the floor but they never really run away, and half the time if I put my hand in front they'll hop up on their own. They are still in the US at least primarily wild caught, it took me forever to find this pair of CB babies in my area, but they are already my favorite reptile.
Props to you for taking such care to show how to take care of these amazing creatures. It's imperative that we get these captive bred in the future. I understand that you have to first collect captive specimens, no way around it. Keep up the great work, and I will continue to adore these reptiles through your vids.
Allways wantes skinks but have not made our mind up on to what species! These guys are incredible an your work with them is allways interesting to watch
This is an interesting series
Bought a captive bred little cutie last year. A baby.
It took almost 2w until he ate.
Since he endoured a lot i didnt want to stress him more. So i let him, just changed water.
Bought another baby 3 months later, they live together now. Both doing good.
Thank you for helping, watched all of your videos 😁
Do they seem happier together?
I love your project mini dragon! Such a wonderful thing you are doing for the species! Thank you for sharing Dayan 💕
Great video as always. I was nice seeing you at the Toronto expo.
I hope you feel better soon. They are the cutest little things, I look forward to them growing up.
Newts and Salamanders most people don’t keep them as pets. I love them and one of my favorite Red Eyed Crocodile Skink.
Great animals to work with! Couldn’t agree more!
Hello great video information Dayyan
Thank you!
Love this video
Thank you! I’m so glad!
The cheeky “Bobs your uncle” slipped in there. Taking notes from Adam I see 😂
Lol I've been saying Bob’s your uncle for years. My family is Australian. We're all just copying Aussies 🤠! Adam has good taste too 😉
@@Reptiliatus 😂😂
Dayyon, love this video. Also love all your videos. They are so interesting and I learn so much. Love ya friend ❤❤
You're the best! Thank you so much for your support!
Awhh...my croc skink also have that fungus, that my fault but greatful has healing and she still alive and healty❤love to see the update
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Love these little guys, if I had more space I'd get a pair but just got an aussie water dragon and he takes up a lot of space.
great advice.
Thank you!
Great video! Thank you for taking the necessary precautions and showing them. I had to do Ceftazidime injections for both my Veiled Chameleon (he HATED it) and recently for my 22 yr old leopard gecko! My gecko didn't mind the injections at all. QOTD: not really sure 🤔 maybe more ball pythons?? 😅 Totally kidding. Another great educational video! Thank you!
A particular type of reptile. Lol I have fallen in love with Tokays! Trying to remember if Tiki and Torch are yours. I think so. I love them!
You put those worms through a spin cycle lol
The babies play r&b on adorable they are too cute to be real
haha
Perfect time for the upload lol I just got one last weekend I got them a pretty good set up but I don’t think they’ve found the worm dish yet it’s eaten a super worm and a few small crickets but it’s only eaten those cause I put them right in the hide with them. It pooped yesterday and has been drinking plenty of water tho!!!
I just got mine too.. I put it one of my 12x12s (I know it’s small) but it hasn’t eaten yet, after this video I’m thinking of moving her to a bin if she doesn’t eat in the next few days…
yeah probably a good call might do that for mine too@@RichBenares
I have a captive bred female that has been laying eggs she’s 4 1/2years old now she was one of my holdbacks. I unfortunately have to sell off my croc skinks to make room for different projects. So I have few available 1male and 3 females if anyone is interested. There’s videos of them so you can see they are captive bred I’m just located in US in Pennsylvania and really don’t want to ship them I prefer pickup for the safety of them. I really wish you could take them for your project mini dragon and if you want them I’d donate them to the project because I know they are going to a great home and that’s all I care about. Well I hope everyone has a great day and wish you all the best 🙋♂️✌️
I really want to work with Gekko smithii! Beautiful species!
You should!
Yea, Riopa fernandi are hugely underrated... I wish there were more cbs in the game
Very true! So underrated! Beautiful skinks!
QOTD: my current passion project, Kenyan Zebra Skinks! I have two subadult pairs. These animals are amazing and so social! The males will climb right out on you. There needs to be more of them out there! 😊
How often should the container be sprayed or misted in a setup like this durring quarantine? Love your videos thank you for your sacrifice to help create a captive community of the red-eyed crocodiles. It's not always easy I've learned...
I think a alligator snapping turtle goes over looked.. Maybe it's size.. Who knows... but that would be cool to see
I would say all strophurus species are underdrated( spinytail geckos)
Absolutely!
As far as the QOTD is concerned, I don't want to actively breed anything at this time and I don't know very many that need to be done like that. I know its best to get captive bought animals so I would honestly say any that need to be saved from being removed from the wild.
I respect that! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
❤
How long do you Quarantine your newcanimals? Donyou recommend 30 days or more? My dream project is geckos like the lesser known Leaf tail geckos & chameleons (smaller ones) . I love what you do thank you!
QOTD = Skinks. Specifically Emerald Tree Skinks and Schneider Skinks. I really want Schneider Skinks.... So, if you have any leads, I would appreciate it. ;-) Also, those Egyptian sand geckos you have are super cool. So, that could be a thing too.
My passion project would be Crocodile Skinks and Emerald Tree Skinks. I adore both species but don't own either.
Wonderful choices!
We need more Petrii & Bombina orientalis in the hobby! I got this tho 😉
I would probably do like tegus or sonething like that! I was going to ask will you do a video about the leopard gecko cohab issue that seems to be going around over Adam Wickens! 😢
In my area it’s hard to find chohoua geckos but the ones you do find are captive bred but I still would like that. I also would love to breed Taiwanese beauty snakes, they’re hard to come across and they’re absolutely gorgeous snakes. I feel like beauty snakes in general aren’t recognized enough and are hard to come across let alone the Taiwanese ones
You start picking up Adams vocab.
Advice on telling whether or not an allegedly captive-bred animal is actually captive bred? My thoughts are to ask for records on their infancy - eg baby pictures, feeding charts, etc - or information on parentage (can I meet or see pics of their parents?). Would that be a good strategy?
Absolutely! Investigate into the captive bred claim!
I have a question . I just got a pair of male and female red eyed croc skinks , and I know humidity needs to be around 70/85% , is it okay to run a fogger all day to keep the humidity where it needs to be? Or should I only run it for so long ? Thank you
What kind of container do you use for your scorpions? Wanna get one but not sure what to keep it in.
I hope you don't feel too bad about taking wild-caught specimens. With the incredible work you're doing it's definitely a necessary evil to support a stronger, healthier and more diverse captive bloodline.
Can I we get a care guide video for Red Eyed Crocodile Skink cause I’m really thinking about buying 1
I'm doing a project with flying geckos, white lined geckos and white spotted geckos bc all of them alot of times are wild caught and the ones I got from the petstore near my house sat in small cage for 9 months waiting to be sold very sad so I'm trying to breed these geckos to help reduce them being taken out of their homes in nature
What size enclosure would you recommend for a single redeye crocodile skink ? I’ve search on TH-cam and everyone says something different. Would like to know from a trusted source such as yourself 😊
What happened to the Uroplatus phantasticus project?
How long do you have to breed a species before it becomes naturally tamed down, if possible?
Who do you purchase them thru?
Hey daian i was wondering on what age you can tel the gender of a croc skink for sure ? Thanks in advance greetings from belgium
Is it possible to breed in 20 20 30 Vivarium??
where do you sell your dune geckos
Is it okay to put 2 females and 1 male on 1 tank? I want to breed them. Thank you.
Lord I'm doing everything wrong 😩 one of the croc is already in the enclosure and the other one in a bin in "quarantine" with soil... so, do I need to move the one in the enclosure to a bin? I got her in 2/1/2024... for the other one I will remove the soil, clean everything and do the set up right. I hope they survive my negligence.
Amazon Tree Boa, Mangrove Snake And Giant Leaf Tailed Gecko!
Great choices! 🐍🐍🦎
You know im from Montreal and im about to go to Kingston to get 2 pairs that are listed CB but i dont know they are cheap and the guy said hes changing project... i doooont know mannnnn....
I would love to get my hands on some black breasted leaf turtles to breed first and foremost. Or red eyed crocodile skinks.
Can you do another cold blooded reptile. With Brandon
Little did you know it’s in the works 😉
Can’t wait amazing collection
Are you planning on ever selling the reptile skinks you’ve bred?
Yes! I have already been doing so in Canada where I am from for several years. It’s so rewarding to be able to offer fellow hobbyists captive bred animals!
It makes me sad to think they are kidnapped from nature. Have you had any luck breeding them ? Is there any captive bred available in Canada ?
Indeed! Absolutely! The whole playlist series revolves around my experience taking on this as a project to contribute to producing them in captivity and sharing my experience for others to do the same! I am proud to share I have produced a few dozen offspring so far!
QOTD: It's 10000% Black-breasted leaf turtles, along with a few frog species. I wish I had the resources to join the breeding efforts.
Satanic leaf tail geckos would be a passion project
Great choice! You know I’d approve of that! ☺️
@Reptiliatus I really admire the way way care for your animals, and thanks for sharing what you do with us
this is ausome im also first can i get pined
I can't pin this but I'll do you one better with a thank you message! You rock! Thank you for watching and supporting! Appreciate you!
ok
@@Reptiliatus
it's hard to support captive breed when they are 4 times the prices
Their unique breeding biology certainly doesn’t help either when it comes to establishing a captive population; also how much more dragon like would they look if they got to the size of a sungazer
Mine just di3d few days ago because some infection 😔
I’m so sorry to hear that
Rubber Boa, Charina Bottae.
Great choices!
@@Reptiliatus They are one animal and mostly unavailable due to being USA native.
Honestly I think instead of saying wild collected they need to be considered abducted instead
That certainly expresses the heaviness well! Thank you for watching/commenting!
Wow, $450 is cheap? I don't even wanna know how much they are captive bred. I'm beginning to think more and more of these animals shouldn't be taken from the wild period.
Please make sure you're also reminarliseing RO water- giving straight RO water unminiralised to any animal is absolutely not healthy for them.
