At this point in life we told our son’s, no more gifts. Just call us, send pictures, and come visit us. One thing I would encourage you to do is to date everything…Pictures, things your children give you, recipes , cards, , etc. last night I fixed a dish that I received the recipe in 1984, I know this dates me, but it is so nice to have the memories….also, hand written notes, recipes from your mother, aunts, sisters, etc. …..so special seeing their handwriting…. I got my mom this year a cutting board with one of my grandma’s hand written recipes laser cut into it. My grandma passed away this year and so I know my mom is going to love (and probably cry) this gift. There’s lots of different sellers on Etsy that do different sizes and styles.

I’ve been asking for memberships to different places to take the kids each year and it’s been great. So far we have had memberships to the local zoo and aquarium. And this year we asked for memberships for a kid’s museum. Those are memories that last longer than any toy. I also thought that maybe an Instacart membership would be good for working parents. I think it’s free delivery over $35 and the convenience of it would be a lifesaver to a lot of parents. Etsy is also my favorite place to buy jewelry and coffee mugs. I’ve also bought address return labels from one seller several times. So cheap and cute and it supports a small business. It’s a fun touch to add for different seasons. And I’ve bought lots of cute garden or outside items like bird houses, wind chimes, the list could go on and on!
These are some amazing suggestions! Since I know you do this annually my only request/feedback would be to release this list a few weeks earlier so we can make the most of the ideas without being short of time for ordering, or for those who shop earlier ❤️

Regarding the postcard book: LOVED this idea! A lot of the foreign trips I go on, I will mail myself a postcard from there. Telling myself what I had done, eaten, and experienced. It generally arrives after we return home. It brings back good memories and would be a great keepsake tucked away in one of those binders. I love seeing the foreign stamps as well. Also, foreign post offices are a trip in themselves!
I agree, i dont remember all the stuff ive received for Christmas over the years. However in the last few years Ive taken my parents on day trips as their Christmas gifts. Those trips have been so fun and we’re still talking about them years later. They just enjoy feeling special enough that i asked them to spend the day with me.

Luckily, my family liked to tell stories lol so we know a lot. But by the time a generation is old enough to "care" about family stories it is sometimes too late & that chance to ask questions is gone. Sorry that was dark. But do a family tree, do things like this. You will be so glad in the future you did. Recipes in my grandmother's handwriting are priceless.

I was even able to put in the cities so that the heart is placed on our current town and on our hometown. So the same as that wall hanging you showed, but a simple coffee mug if a wall hanging seems a bit much. My mom adores it 🙂

I bought something similar to the recipe book for my cousin for this Christmas. Ever since she and her husband bought their house she dreamt of having a big, luxurious kitchen where she could make big meals (mainly a Thanksgiving or Christmas one for our whole family - a task which has always been taken on by my mother), so I figured it would be a perfect gift for her (especially since it came with recipe cards that I wrote some of our family’s “famous” recipes on). I bought this for her in March (I like to get started early), and a few months later - when she was giving us a tour of her newly renovated kitchen - I found out that it was the perfect gift when I saw that she had already bought herself one 🤣😢

I'd think storyworth is more of a present for you (who asks and can see the book after), than the person writing the answers. They know their stories already, but it is a really cool gift for someone else. Like if they did one where all the grandparents answered, then you put the book together for a child. Or your grandparents and gift it to your parent.

I got those I spy rice bags for a family at my church with 3 little boys... GREAT idea! And the Etsy shop had so many cool fabric options, I was able to find ones for each of their favorite things.
I'd think storyworth is more of a present for you (who asks and can see the book after), than the person writing the answers. They know their stories already, but it is a really cool gift for someone else. Like if they did one where all the grandparents answered, then you put the book together for a child. Or your grandparents and gift it to your parent.

They actually send the questions to me and I write them in a journal and my dad answers in the journal so I’m getting a sneak peek of his stories- things I never knew and I cry almost every week lol. My first memory of books and wanting to read was probably 3 years old and I saw my older sister reading the Betsy Tacy series (the best!) She got those original hardcover books from the library and gave them to me and they still make me tear up. Best gift I’ve ever got
They mean so much to her and she got them for herself but she gave them to me 😭
