I bought recently the 15s-eq2008nu version (5500u/8gb/1TB SSD / IPS screen). Until now this is no doubt the best sub-600 Euro laptop locally in Bulgaria. It's light, snappy, with good battery and very light gaming friendly. The only letdowns are - no LAN port, only 2 regular USB port (USB3.1 for hubs is available though) and the display's calibration is slightly off (kinda greenish). However in Windows integrated color calibration fixes that with no significant hassle.

Great price, nice features. I picked up the Lenovo ideapad 3 equivalent. Same specs. Ryzen 5500U, 8 GBs RAM, 256 SD drive, FHD screen Wifi-5, etc. Very nice. This thing is FAST! But, I hear it would be blazing with more RAM. So I might do that in the future. Although I think it may not be possible to add more than 4 Gig dual channel RAM? In any case, ANY upgrade to the RAM will boost its ability to handle video and graphics because the integrated graphics card dedicates 2 gigs of the 8 gigs for video/graphics. So you're operating with a little more than 5 gigs for the rest of the system and Windows 10 with a 5500U would probably prefer to have at least 8 gigs dedicated to the operating system outside of graphics? Since I don't do much in the graphic domain, I have not noticed the much in the way of lags or dropped frames, etc. For $399? A no brainer!
you saved yourself, this hp machine is cheap, it feels cheap, display is worst, its a TN panel does not looks good from any angle, built quality is weak, and cinebench does not cross 6k under normal conditiions, idk how he got it to 7k
Thank you very much !! I have this lap and god it's hard to find info about it. I bought mine 4 months ago and so far it's good! I just would like to upgrade the ram and the ssd for more. Also the open-view is really helpful to watch and for guiding throught the process.
I just received my HP 15z-ef2000, and so far I have to say I am finding it difficult to be happy with the purchase. I ordered the upgraded display screen and I would hate to see what the cheaper display would look like. Viewing angle with this one is extremely limited, and just a small movement of the head washes out the entire screen. My 6 year old even noticed how poor it is. On a positive note, the speaker is better than most, but difficult to be impressed with the rest of the laptop when the display is so poor.
It seems to me they gave you the TN panel instead of the IPS anyway. IPS viewing angles aren't supposed to be very narrow. What happened in the end, did you keep it?
I bought the HP 15s-EQ2158AU before New Year. I picked this instead of the Ideapad Slim 3 or Acer Swift 3 as it has 2 RAM slot, with already installed 1 8GB of RAM so I added another 8GB of RAM to the unused RAM slot so it's now running 16GB in in Dual Channel mode, which it is recommended for Radeon iGPU users. Very lightweight and looks premium despite it's made of plastic. It can handle light gaming (can run Yakuza 0 at around 40-60 fps in High/Ultra setting) and video editing ujsing Premiere Pro. The downside is the lack of backlit keyboard and also the screen's color is slightly off but IO fixed this on Radeon Software's Display settings and Windows Display Color Calibration tool. For less than $700 (PHP 35990) + $50 (PHP 2500) for additional 8GB RAM, it's pretty solid to me as a secondary PC.

I just got this, but with 12gb of ram for 399. I'm hesitant to open it and keep it for some reason. All reviews for these machines are pretty good for the price point.
Be aware: I bought this laptop and it has a major issue, the battery drains while hibernation (close the lid). Now I cannot restore my sessions, i need to shutdown everytime 🤦🏻♂️

I know I’m this is an old comment but if you use amd apu tuner you can cap the clock speeds to 4.0ghz while gaming . I get those speeds while playing wow . And the wattages is between 15-20watts

7:11 It looks like it has an space to add a 2.5" HDD but it's not designed to have it. I've looked into other reviews and that space is blocked by the case. I have an older-same model with ryzen 7 3700u but you can add an HDD 2.5" HDD there buying an adapter and installing it. It seems that new-model laptops are leaving aside 2.5" HDD or SSD drives upgrade, just m.2 NVME. Nice review, though!

I could get wrong but the ryzen version should have better multi core performance, and Intel having better single core performance. Due to the fact that the ryzen has 2 more cores. I've had the ryzen version on default configuration and haven't found anything wrong with it, soon I'll upgrade the RAM so it should benefit from that as well.

I got the upgraded screen and one other upgrade, I think it was more gb or more ram, I cant remember which. It all cost $400 on the dot with tax included and free delivery. That was the best deal I could find anywhere during the black friday/cyber monday specials. I've had it for a few months now and I love it. This screen is amazing. The 15.6 is bigger than what I was used to tho, but watching videos on it is just amazing compared to what I had.

I wasn't sure if I made the right decision because you can always get something a little better for a few hundred dollars more but I could've kept telling myself that until I ended up spending $4k on a laptop. Lol So I just stopped where I was for now. I upgraded to the 1080p screen, 16gb ram, and 512gb m.2 SSD. I don't think I could've done any better for the price but I wasn't sure how well it would perform. I know it'll be entry level gaming. I'm fine with that until I learn everything I want to learn about PC gaming then I'll invest in something better later on.
Laptops have different CPU's far than just i5 or Ryzen 5, CPU's in each categories have some models! That Asus one seems having 1135 as cpu. and if the hp comes with 5300u, Then the asus is the best choice by far! I bought the HP EF2126 which comes with 5500u as this video mentioned.
It is a 6core / 12 thread zen 2 apu. there is exactly nothing you could throw at it in that package size, which it could not handle. its got usb-c, not thunderbolt, so an external gpu makes no sense, and the bottleneck will always be a 8/1 ratio in cpu to gpu performance. If you need more, get a laptop with a mobile gpu.

It can handle Forza, but again this is not a gaming laptop. You can checkout the Benchmarks of Vega 8 graphics on Google to see if it aligns with your games.

I found this information for you. Hopefully it will answer your question. It seems that some of the HP laptops have data only USB c ports. This means you can't charge through the USB C, or transmit and receive video from the USB C port. I'll paste the information I found below since TH-cam will not let me link the website. Hello, data only means you just have USB signals on USB-C connector. If you connect an external hub or docking with LAN, that LAN will be connected via USB. If you connect an external hub or docking with video output , HDMI , VGA or DisplayPort, it works only if there is a graphics card included in the external device. that graphics card will work via USB. Usually this means that the is a DisplayLink graphics chip on the hub/docking connected viaUSB-C. What you don't have is DisplayPort signals on the USB-C connector, so you can't add an USB-C-to-HDMI adapter for example. I don't know if on the market you can find USB-C-to-HDMI adapter which includes a DisplayLink graphics chip, in this case you can connect a video. A standard USB-to-HDMI adapter works with a USB-C port with video signals without the need of a DIsplayLink chip. From signals point of view , you can imagine the USB-C data only port like an USB 3 Type A port but with a different connector but same functionnality. I hope to have been clear.

USB Type-C port Connects a USB device, such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provides data transfer. NOTE: Cables and/or adapters (purchased separately) may be required. when you go to order it off HP site, you can specify on the silver model if you want back lit keyboard or not. but don't think the default model has backlit. I don't think the black model offers backlit keyboard either... Only silver and rose gold models do I think
I have played Minecraft 1.19 for hours and it has no problem, but you cannot use any shaders. I have played Valorant, The sims 4 and goes pretty well. Also, I use it to program and so far it's pretty good.
@@DealUnboxing I figured it out, you need to give your igpu 2 gbs of your ram to use as dedicated vram aswell as so you will only have 6gbs for the cpu awswell as raising the tdp from 15w to 25w. That will give it max cooling though idk if the cooler is beefy enough to do this would be cool if u did a test for it

You can always get an external hard drive. That’s what I do. With the USB 3.0 port it will access the data a lot faster than a 2.0

Did the processor run over 2.1GHz by default (out of the box), or did you have to do something to let it run above 2.1GHz base clock?
2.1Ghz is the base CPU Clock Speed / Default and 4.0 Ghz boost speed.
@@DealUnboxing right but I think I saw it run at like 3GHz when you opened Task Manager in the video. My current HP laptop’s APU is “capped” at 2.1GHz which is the base clock speed. So I was wondering whether you were able to reach that “above base clock” speed just out of the box
@@jasonhe54 You can always run CPU-Z benchmark and check Task manager to see it goes to 4Ghz.
Check out processor settings in power management options. There you choose between battery life/high speed.
I know I’m this is an old comment but if you use amd apu tuner you can cap the clock speeds to 4.0ghz while gaming . I get those speeds while playing wow . And the wattages is between 15-20watts

7:11 It looks like it has an space to add a 2.5" HDD but it's not designed to have it. I've looked into other reviews and that space is blocked by the case. I have an older-same model with ryzen 7 3700u but you can add an HDD 2.5" HDD there buying an adapter and installing it. It seems that new-model laptops are leaving aside 2.5" HDD or SSD drives upgrade, just m.2 NVME. Nice review, though!

You can try AMD OverDrive menu, but it could damage your system, so be careful playing with settings.

I could get wrong but the ryzen version should have better multi core performance, and Intel having better single core performance. Due to the fact that the ryzen has 2 more cores. I've had the ryzen version on default configuration and haven't found anything wrong with it, soon I'll upgrade the RAM so it should benefit from that as well.

Worst laptop hai koi mat karedna. Mene kharida tha per 1-2 baad hi power on hone vali problem aa gayi. Switch press karne pe laptop on nahi ho raha tha. Charger connect karna padtha tha. Me piece vapis karke aa gaya hp showroom me unhone payment de diya. Phir mene asus ka kharida. So go for asus only.

I got the upgraded screen and one other upgrade, I think it was more gb or more ram, I cant remember which. It all cost $400 on the dot with tax included and free delivery. That was the best deal I could find anywhere during the black friday/cyber monday specials. I've had it for a few months now and I love it. This screen is amazing. The 15.6 is bigger than what I was used to tho, but watching videos on it is just amazing compared to what I had.

I wasn't sure if I made the right decision because you can always get something a little better for a few hundred dollars more but I could've kept telling myself that until I ended up spending $4k on a laptop. Lol So I just stopped where I was for now. I upgraded to the 1080p screen, 16gb ram, and 512gb m.2 SSD. I don't think I could've done any better for the price but I wasn't sure how well it would perform. I know it'll be entry level gaming. I'm fine with that until I learn everything I want to learn about PC gaming then I'll invest in something better later on.

Laptops have different CPU's far than just i5 or Ryzen 5, CPU's in each categories have some models! That Asus one seems having 1135 as cpu. and if the hp comes with 5300u, Then the asus is the best choice by far! I bought the HP EF2126 which comes with 5500u as this video mentioned.

No you cannot upgrade the CPU.
It is a 6core / 12 thread zen 2 apu. there is exactly nothing you could throw at it in that package size, which it could not handle.
its got usb-c, not thunderbolt, so an external gpu makes no sense, and the bottleneck will always be a 8/1 ratio in cpu to gpu performance.
If you need more, get a laptop with a mobile gpu.

I found this information for you. Hopefully it will answer your question. It seems that some of the HP laptops have data only USB c ports. This means you can't charge through the USB C, or transmit and receive video from the USB C port. I'll paste the information I found below since TH-cam will not let me link the website.
Hello,
data only means you just have USB signals on USB-C connector.
If you connect an external hub or docking with LAN, that LAN will be connected via USB.
If you connect an external hub or docking with video output , HDMI , VGA or DisplayPort, it works only if there is a graphics card included in the external device. that graphics card will work via USB. Usually this means that the is a DisplayLink graphics chip on the hub/docking connected viaUSB-C.
What you don't have is DisplayPort signals on the USB-C connector, so you can't add an USB-C-to-HDMI adapter for example.
I don't know if on the market you can find USB-C-to-HDMI adapter which includes a DisplayLink graphics chip, in this case you can connect a video.
A standard USB-to-HDMI adapter works with a USB-C port with video signals without the need of a DIsplayLink chip.
From signals point of view , you can imagine the USB-C data only port like an USB 3 Type A port but with a different connector but same functionnality.

when you go to order it off HP site, you can specify on the silver model if you want back lit keyboard or not. but don't think the default model has backlit. I don't think the black model offers backlit keyboard either... Only silver and rose gold models do I think

I have played Minecraft 1.19 for hours and it has no problem, but you cannot use any shaders. I have played Valorant, The sims 4 and goes pretty well. Also, I use it to program and so far it's pretty good.

It is probably performing lower then simillar spec laptops because of only one heat pipe, can you show the cpu temps?
The CPU stress test clip is in the video shows the temps under 100% stress for 30 mins.
@@DealUnboxing I figured it out, you need to give your igpu 2 gbs of your ram to use as dedicated vram aswell as so you will only have 6gbs for the cpu awswell as raising the tdp from 15w to 25w. That will give it max cooling though idk if the cooler is beefy enough to do this would be cool if u did a test for it

When watching yt/movies mine stays off, when you start doing multiple things the fan will kick in.
