How can they overlook the Daniel Penny case? Alvin Bragg effectively destroyed most, if not all, motivation to follow the phrase commonly preached to the public: if you see something, say something (or do something). Your sentiment essentially tells people, "you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't." At least if you don't do anything you are not at risk of being branded a bigot and the perpetrator of a hate crime. People are more likely going to choose being branded as anonymous assholes because at least your identity is protected and your dignity is preserved. Daniel Penny is not an excuse, he is an example of how law enforcement can manipulate your genuinely good intentions into something nefarious.
@@infinitedreaming222 Daniel Penny was literally protecting black women amongst other identities from Jordan Neely who was behaving aggressively towards them.
The last person who tried to save others on a subway was Daniel Penny, who the state tried to prosecute as a murderer. Why would anyone help if they’re just going to be criminally prosecuted for doing something?
Bystanders are not going to help you, but they will video your death, so you have that going for you. learn to protect yourself, because no one will help you but you.
Why would they because they would be charged with murder like Daniel Penny was. NY will never have a bystander do a third-party intervention every again after that waste of taxpayers' money and let thieves rob stores of millions of products and money.
I just commented something very similar!! Exactly!! Why would anyone help when less than a month ago Alvin Bragg was trying to imprison Daniel Penny for protecting people on the subway!!
In NYC, when bystanders step up to help, suddenly they become the suspect and the initial aggressor transforms from criminal into victim, perpetrator to martyr, a trouble-maker to a completely innocent defenseless example of how we, society, failed to protect the less fortunate. When bystanders step up to protect one another some interest groups hear that dogwhistle and without any cause scream "discrimination!" and label it a hate crime. DA Alvin Bragg effectively made the endangered population of Good Samaritans completely extinct. The likelihood of a Good Samaritan sighting in NYC is now going to be as likely as a sighting of a dodo bird or a dinosaur. Well done, Alvin Bragg!
My dad who is ex-army visited NYC in the 1970's and he witnessed multiple incidents while NYC citizens walked by not even looking at robberies and assaults. Nothing new there.
It's not the 70s though. My Dad was held at knife point twice in NY in the 70s and robbed. That was normal at that time. Do you want a return to that???
The audacity of expecting anyone else to get involved must be based in the belief that either the public does not follow current events and/or has collective short--term amnesia.
@@Jackson9612. It is tragic. She did absolutely nothing to deserve that. However, her unfortunate demise is the result of a perverted depraved individual who does not value human life and has no regard for the rules of society. Her violent painful torturous victimization was not a result of society's lack of kindness. It is really unfair to place blame on others who were not equipped, prepared, or hired to handle this type of unforeseen situation. Your disdain is misdirected.
That has nothing to do with this, most people don't follow news or current events, this happened in 1964 to Kitty Genevese. I'm sure there are more cases you can look into where people did nothing to help. Also putting out a fire is not the same as strangling someone.
Why should cops care about a homeless woman on a subway? We got rid of all the hardcore Rudy Giuliani stop and frisk guys and replaced them with polite and culturally sensitive police that beg and plead with perps rather than just handling business. This is what we asked for, this is what we got.
This act could have been prevented quite possibly. The death of the victim DEFINITELY could have been prevented and harm could have been reduced if bystanders reacted.
When the DA is eager to file criminal charges against bystanders when they intervene and then put them on trial that could result in a lengthy prison sentence, that "if" is going to have an extremely decreased likelihood of becoming a "when." Being a Good Samaritan apparently comes with a high probability of being labeled as the perpetrator, and depending on the individuals involved, a bigot.
I think the suspect has to be released on bond a few times so he can repeat the offense enough times to qualify as a serial offender. Bonus points if the victims are children and/or if narcotics are involved.
Mr Penny’s situation wasn’t allowed to escalate to physical harm or death for any of the innocent passengers… because he jumped in. Unfortunately for this burn victim, nobody jumped in. So death of an innocent passenger was the result. The situations are not completely unrelated.
There are, but if a civilian tries to intervene in a conflict on the subway, there is a high chance they could get criminally charged by the district attorney and branded as a bigot or predator by interest groups. Not many individuals want to take that risk, so they now leave it up to authorities to sort it out. Bystanders do not get any grace or protected liability.
The cop could have taken one of fire extinguishers that are in the subway car. They know where they are located! He could have asked the jacket of something and use it as a blanket.
Could he have gotten into the subway car though if it was engulfed by flames and smoke? I'm not trying to be combative, but wondering if that would even be feasible without him becoming engulfed as well.
Absolutely, the "Bystander Effect". Multiple people witnessed her murder and NO ONE called the cops. They all said later they figured someone else had already called. So sad. Now after what happened with Penny, people are afraid of intervening. I think we should always try to help and the DA Bragg & Governor need to resign immediately.
This horrific incident IMMEDIATELY reminded me of Kitty Genevese. The story was part of an English class I was in in the 1970s. I instilled the mantra in my brain: "never again a Kitty Genovese" if I'm in a situation were I can help my fellow "man". Daniel Penny has that mindset. Hopefully his act of courage has inspired others to act in kind.
1964 people didn't wanna get involved for fear of getting in harm's way. It's 2024 and not only is that possible, but the DA is going to charge you with a crime too. So yes there is a Daniel Penny effect that is unique to this time.
@@christopher3790 Wrong! I saw an influencer interviewing people on the street about the Penny case and they pretty much could care less. I have lived in NYC and ridden the subway all hours of the day and night, the majority ignore and flee such events. You have maybe max. two people of every train who would get involved. That Penny case had no weapons, the guy threatened (I guess) but did not swing on anybody, so it was pretty easy to subdue the guy causing problems. That was an easy chokehold when the person applying it was taller than the person being choked. There is no comparison to someone burning someone verses the Penny case, where no weapon was displayed.
Drunk lol 😂 yeah he watched then fanned the flames!! Plus he stood slowly pouring booze on her to not wake her then light it. He is a pyromaniac serial killer his face during it y calmness shows not his 1st time!!!
And notice when he's waving the tattered rags at the burning 'woman' (edna cintron...), it doesn't affect the flames whatsoever, I call total BS on this fake layered cgi mixture video... and fake crisis acting event. You have no proof she poured booze on the alleged 'victim'. There is no evidence of him lighting the 'woman' on 'fire', because it doesn't exist, that's why they will never release the train car surveillance footage...
That only comes if the victim is of a certain tax bracket or protected racial/religious group. If the victim cannot be used for political fodder or to incite public outrage, their identity is inconsequential, apparently.
I was caught on fire once, In my panic, I remembered to drop and roll. It put out the fire. Couldn't someone have tried to tell her/ instruct her in what to do? My clothes were burned and melted, my hair, eyelashes, brows, burned... but l survived. She didn't. This is so sad. She was asleep, then woke up on fire, and nobody helped her.... I guess she was in shock to wake up on fire? 😢😢 I don't know what to say... There's no way that l could just stand there and not try to do something.
You can NOT blame bystanders for this. If you want bystanders to step in and help then you must allow them to carry a gun and use it on anyone who is a threat. But guns are illegal in New York City so don't expect anyone to put their life at risk for another when they don't have the tools to deal with such a situation.
Apparently, it's a hate crime if you help, it's a hate crime if you don't help, and if you Jussie Smollett a hate crime (report one that you staged yourself) it's no problem because you just need to make a ridiculous deal with a corrupt DA and then you will never have to face consequences even if a special investigation and jury finds you guilty and a judge sentences you to serve jail time because "double jeopardy" or some such legal technicality that protects criminals.

The absentee father of the "victim," who was initially the perpetrator, is also taking the bystander, who somehow became the defendant, to court in a civil lawsuit for wrongful death. And you are calling the people who are calling out Alvin Bragg for his egregious behaviour "broken garbage?" People would be ignorant to overlook any of this nonsense that the justice department in NYC has been doing. They are not overreacting whatsoever. They are not not assisting because they lack humanity - they are trying to preserve their dignity.

Honestly what could somebody do if they don't have a fire extinguisher. You are talking about extreme heat here. Waving a jumper or sweater is not going to put the fire out.
New York has laws that prohibit bystanders from helping in the subway. Remember the case which almost sent a man to life in prison to helping subdue a homeless man. The law also applies to the NYPD as seen in the videos.
There were no fire extinguishers located on the subway? There should be some in every subway car for Safety reasons. I am sure they have to undergo inspections. This is heartbreaking. I don't think thats an excuse, they are just trying to make excuses. This was a fire! Even if they didn't want to detain the person, they could have at least taken measures to smother the fire.
I'm sure someone in the subway could have stepped in to prevent it, but it's the New York subway.. where people go to lose their sense of humanity and souls. You could be on the ground, bleeding out and screaming for a doctor, and a doctor nearby who could help would probably just walk past you as if you were invisible. It's arguably one of the worst places to visit on Earth.. a special man made version of hell.

NYC will prosecute you if you try to help out innocent bystanders on public transportation.
Wow, that's an extremely bad comparison. This poor woman was on fire. I think not helping her is inhumane.
🎯
Well done, Alvin Bragg!
daniel penny was found not guilty
Look at what you did to Daniel Penny. Why would anyone step in with Bragg still there?
Exactly. He is salivating for innocent people to step up so he can knock them down and drag them through the mud. He must get off on it.
Are you serious? That would not stop me, she was burning right in front of people dude!
But how could you get in trouble for trying to put out a fire?
@@VeraxMusic By trying to stop the guy lighting the fire!!!!!? WTF dude?

The cop that walked by needs to be assessor to the crime for doing nothing
My dad who is ex-army visited NYC in the 1970's and he witnessed multiple incidents while NYC citizens walked by not even looking at robberies and assaults. Nothing new there.
It's not the 70s though. My Dad was held at knife point twice in NY in the 70s and robbed. That was normal at that time. Do you want a return to that???
@@shadowboxer3583what are you talking about this ny is worse now then the 1970 when people burn in the subway 2024
You can see evil in his eyes.
That's the thing. Nobody wants to get involve. It will literately ruin your life by simply helping.
I do hear you however I wouldn’t be able to help myself.
The audacity of expecting anyone else to get involved must be based in the belief that either the public does not follow current events and/or has collective short--term amnesia.
Excuses, humanity continues to die as we stray further and further away from kindness. This poor woman, RIP.
The question they should be asking is why the NYPD dude didn't help the victim put out the fire; he just calmly walked away from her. SMH.
Why should cops care about a homeless woman on a subway? We got rid of all the hardcore Rudy Giuliani stop and frisk guys and replaced them with polite and culturally sensitive police that beg and plead with perps rather than just handling business. This is what we asked for, this is what we got.
@@EMT_RickStop and frisk has nothing to do with the police doing what's right.

This act could have been prevented quite possibly. The death of the victim DEFINITELY could have been prevented and harm could have been reduced if bystanders reacted.
There is no excuse for the lack of action.
Remember Daniel Penny?
Bystanders should never intervene…that’s how you get killed, hurt or charged with a crime…you have to look out for yourself…
💯💯💯
When the DA is eager to file criminal charges against bystanders when they intervene and then put them on trial that could result in a lengthy prison sentence, that "if" is going to have an extremely decreased likelihood of becoming a "when." Being a Good Samaritan apparently comes with a high probability of being labeled as the perpetrator, and depending on the individuals involved, a bigot.
Has Biden pardoned him yet?
😂😂😂😂
Let's thank God that scamala didn't win!!! Trump 🎉🎉🎉
I think the suspect has to be released on bond a few times so he can repeat the offense enough times to qualify as a serial offender. Bonus points if the victims are children and/or if narcotics are involved.
Pushing your political propaganda on every tragedy is diabolical. You people will never get what you want, and that makes me happy.
If any bystander came to her defense would Alvin Bragg have charged the Good Samaritan?
Mr Penny tried to help and ended up nearly getting the jail.
Apples and oranges.
Two different scenarios.
Mr Penny’s situation wasn’t allowed to escalate to physical harm or death for any of the innocent passengers… because he jumped in.
Unfortunately for this burn victim, nobody jumped in. So death of an innocent passenger was the result.
The situations are not completely unrelated.
why are there no fire extinguishers on subways??
There are, but if a civilian tries to intervene in a conflict on the subway, there is a high chance they could get criminally charged by the district attorney and branded as a bigot or predator by interest groups. Not many individuals want to take that risk, so they now leave it up to authorities to sort it out. Bystanders do not get any grace or protected liability.
New York needs a complete overhaul of the justice and political system. Only the innocent are considered criminals.
@@JC-kv1vn someone would break the glass?

Charging Daniel Penny changed everything.
How is putting out a fire on a victim the same as strangling a violent man?
This crime was lethal because a "take charge" person was not on site.
Every person on the subway had an overcoat to smother the flames.
I desperately want Eric Adams out of office. This city needs a better mayor. Him and his entire administration - OUT.
Yes, absolutely no excuse...they are complict in this crime.
no they are not
This was absolutely heartbreaking,
Bystanders were pure cowards. NYC holds another L!
Why Daniel Penny case? What happened in 1964 to Kitty Genevese in Queens? People studied that case. This effect is nothing knew.
@@SeekerNJWC I am glad that you remember the Kitty Genevese case. It was really pushed back in the 70s.

You have no proof she poured booze on the alleged 'victim'. There is no evidence of him lighting the 'woman' on 'fire', because it doesn't exist, that's why they will never release the train car surveillance footage...
Everyone is wondering, why was the woman standing up still when she was burning? It just doesn't make sense.

Amelia Carter RIP
Because there is no victim,
crisis acting video and 'event'...
Guns are not illegal in NY state.
What took place afterwards is what’s being discussed. Not before.
With all the woke BS going on, anyone who helped that woman would have been called a racist. Did ya forget about Mr. Penny that fast?
Apparently, it's a hate crime if you help, it's a hate crime if you don't help, and if you Jussie Smollett a hate crime (report one that you staged yourself) it's no problem because you just need to make a ridiculous deal with a corrupt DA and then you will never have to face consequences even if a special investigation and jury finds you guilty and a judge sentences you to serve jail time because "double jeopardy" or some such legal technicality that protects criminals.

Seriously? The last person who tried to help was branded a racist and his intervention described as a hate crime in the court of public opinion spearheaded by certain interest groups who loudly and aggressively protested outside his _criminal_ court proceedings on a daily basis. The absentee father of the "victim," who was initially the perpetrator, is also taking the bystander, who somehow became the defendant, to court in a civil lawsuit for wrongful death. And you are calling the people who are calling out Alvin Bragg for his egregious behaviour "broken garbage?"
People would be ignorant to overlook any of this nonsense that the justice department in NYC has been doing. They are not overreacting whatsoever. They are not not assisting because they lack humanity - they are trying to preserve their dignity.

Honestly what could somebody do if they don't have a fire extinguisher. You are talking about extreme heat here. Waving a jumper or sweater is not going to put the fire out.
No one even tried 😢
Daniel Penny tried to save people and his life was destroyed.
You’re nuts if you get involved
New York has laws that prohibit bystanders from helping in the subway. Remember the case which almost sent a man to life in prison to helping subdue a homeless man. The law also applies to the NYPD as seen in the videos.
Insanity would show the defense is desperate. This would fall short of the M'Naughton test for sure.
He set a woman on fire. No excuse!
Daniel Penny would have stopped him. Then they would have prosecuted Penny.
Where is the grandstanding of Mayor Adams?
I'm sure someone in the subway could have stepped in to prevent it, but it's the New York subway.. where people go to lose their sense of humanity and souls.
