    I use Matt Varnish (Humbrol Matt Coat) to apply certain detail items like name plates. Any excess can easily be blended into the surrounding areas of the model .It also gives plenty of time to readjust for fitting to make sure the part is in the exact right position .Bostic as you say Dave is a no no .Apart from it melts plastic it is very stringy too.

    Don’t worry about it Dave . A while ago we re sealed the boiler blanking plate on the roof of the 37 at the NYMR . We used a black sticky sealer stuff ,it went everywhere, made a right mess . It took me a week to clean it off my hands😂

    Weathering looks good. I wouldn’t do anything to the fan. If you look on the standard bachmann one that’s awful! Yours is better than that. Also everything you can imagine got stuck in those fans, leaves, rags, dead birds etc.
    The grill mesh are frost screens to go over the large recessed side vents. However, they were about as good as an Elton school boy in a scrap so they only tried them for a year or so, if it snowed they blacked and caused over heating, I think they are included with that particular loco is due to it being a Kilt wearers, crafty yank in your dress loco. Love the videos.
    One last point, I would consider some panel lining around all the joints, doors, grills etc. it would give it a bit more detail. Top job.

    The rectangular grille is a frost grille. They were all built with them originally but gradually most got removed bar some of the South Wales examples. The 37239 you are about to weather retained the frost grilles until withdrawn as 37332. If you do a Flickr search of 37239 or 37332 and look at the rectangular grilles under the fan, you will see where these go.
    Other examples are 37158, 37203, 37227, 37254 which all retained frost grilles until they were withdrawn. Since 37254 came back with Colas, it has since lost them. 37057 however, had them refit as a preserved example and still retains them on the mainline.

    Railway modelling is a roller coaster Dave. Some days it is annoying and you make a cock up;next time often after a bit of thought (and less beer!) it comes together and I think your result is a great recovery. I wouldn’t chase a new body, and you now possess a famous and desirable loco (as seen on TV) that will attract a premium if you come to sell it on. Not quite the fame of Grott, but pretty close! 😂

  • @GeoffCarlill
    @GeoffCarlill 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    In case this helps Dave, a couple of alternatives to PVA for attaching metal to plastic:
    When you want an instant bond, Bostik Fix & Flash is great. It's a resin 'activated' by UV light (developed for dentistry). I use it to stick photo-etch, re-attach buffers and crew figures. It dries clear (slightly glossy) but doesn't attack the paint or plastic on a model.
    Also good is Gorilla Glue Clear. I use it for photo-etch loco nameplates. Again, doesn't react with the paint or plastic but you do need to wait for it to dry.
    Keep up the good work, cheers Geoff
    PS - Tamiya smoke is meant to be slightly transparent - good for building up weathering effects.

    I recon you can pull the grill issue back some more. Pin vice and set of tiny drill bits (Hobbycraft about£10) and with body off, carefully drill out the glue splodge mess from where the gaps should be and it will look a million times better (actually Donald Trump said a million, it’s probably 10 times better) use some Vallejo Plastic Putty to fill the gap between the framework, and paint weather and it’s spot on. Love rest of weathering job. Next 37 diesel weathering needs to be well grotty, then you can enter it in ‘Grot Fest ‘25’
    That class 50 profile is a great one, love the 31 too, sounds old school. There is a 37 profile for the HM 7000 and a new tweaked on is coming in time for the TT:120 37 around Q3.

    Don't thing you damaged the model at all. It was completely spoiled already by the stupid dog decals on the sides. Absolute nonsense. They even put these on some real locomotives and spoil them too. If people are dog enthusiasts then watch crufts. Leave locomotives alone for the railway enthusiasts.
