Marvel mystery oil in all of the cylinders seems to do the trick. Id fill the oil sumps back up quickly as exposure to air will accelerate rust. Spin it over by hand in a few days to see if it frees up. If not just pull the whole engine and send for a rebuild. Probably want to drain the transmissiin and read diff with that mucb water

    • @artimusprimeoutdoors

  • @Marts1499

Hey Mike, I’ve dealt with a lot of flooded engines. Go find bio diesel.
Fill the engine up with diesel instead of oil. Jump the starter and turn the motor over with no plugs for 30 seconds or so. Drain the diesel from the drain plugs and repeat until it’s clear of moisture. The biodiesel will strip all the moisture out! And it’s oily so will not damage bearing on the crank and so on.

I’ve actually ran an engine with diesel oil and drove around the block a few laps on really bad cases. Generally when you have water in an engine you can try and flush it out with oil but it will take a dozen full up and drains and tons of wasted oil to do what a few gallons of diesel would do.

I would say now that the water is out put oil in it and run it like that with bariman and sea foam oil treatment and run it for 10 to 20 minutes in your yard giving it some revs and letting the engine get up to temp and after that 10-20 minute run cycle drain the oil and change it again. That will get everything out and clean your engine

Pour some Marvel Mystery Oil in that last cylinder. Let it sit overnight, then turn the engine over by hand a few rotations.
Once it pushes the majority of that out, pour in some ATF and let it sit for a couple days so it can soak in really good.
Spin it over by hand again a couple times, put in fresh gas and new spark plugs, and fire it up.
Make sure to put in 93 octane AFTER removing all the gas out of the gas tanks.

Another great video!!! Check where the water was sitting, since this is a dry sump system maybe that's not where the crank is, maybe the water has been sitting in the oil holding tank. Kind of like how Yamaha used to use their frames to hold the oil for their dry sump system and the water might not have done as much damage as it could have. You'll have to look at the engine schematics to see what else was in there with all that water.

Wow didnt expect that. It was topped off with water. The 2 years is what worries me mike. That bottom end cant be good. The mains and the crank cant be good shape. But it was sumerged under that water and that is different. Im not sure man.

Michael, yes a lot of water but be advised the z51 with the dry sump takes 9.9 quarts of oil. Please don’t get discouraged, we have faith in you. You will bring this Corvette back to life, hang in there! As one person said, time for the marvel mystery oil soaking…

I'm sure it will run but not for long maybe flush it with diesel and then multiple oil changes but I'm pretty sure that motor is going to be coming out transmission and diff are more than likely the same.

The water separates from oil and it sits at the bottom of the motor. If the oil pan is easily replaceable, it might be worth taking a look. It may not have damage any higher up. I think the engine still has a good shot of working. I'd try to run it as is. The oil hopefully would have helped protect the rest of the engine, even with a little water in it.

Coming from a corvette nut, you've got the world's longest road ahead of you. Before you invest anymore, you need to pull the computers and make sure they're good. The BCM is in the passenger flood and I think in the c7s the TCM is there too. The ECU is behind that loose front quarter panel.

Greatly enjoyed the video and the choice language. Brought back memories of spending hours beneath a C3 struggling with frozen nuts (both kinds). Once was struggling with a frozen nut, the ratchet slipped and I hit myself in the nose with a fist wrapped around a ratchet handle. Yes, broken nose! Now I'm your fathers age and a little more cautious. I look forward to the rest of the story.

I live in southern Arkansas next to the Ouachita river, I have a buddy that was riding around in the river bottoms and got stuck in the back water from the river. He left the truck overnight and came back the next day to get it out, he could not find anyone to help him as the truck was now sitting in water up to the middle of the tires. The truck sat there as the water came up and eventually the tuck was completely underwater for the next month. We along with others drove john boats in the bottoms to see the truck but could never find it. When the water finally came down enough to get the truck out with help from many people with trucks and large tractors there was prop marks on the roof of the cab lol. He drained the oil lubed the cylinders, drained the transmission, rear end, and front diff. Let the electrical dry out and a couple weeks later he was back to driving that truck. I believe the year model was a 2000 model Chevy Silverado. Of course that year model did not have all that electrical stuff that your car has. From my understanding the truck is still running and going strong. Wish i could find some pictures of it.. Good luck with your car can't wait to hear it run.

Also, I feel like the likely scenario was the exhaust system filled up and possibly backfilled into the cylinder which is why the one cylinder is rusted up. Car may have been parked on a slope possibly? Not sure, but I’d still pull the valve covers and the intake just to check for rust in the top of the heads

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You might be right, that could have been the lowest cylinder with an open valve.

My reaction when you pulled the second plug was the exact same, pure shock. Also about the cylinder, looked to me like possibly pitting on the cylinder wall, but could also be debris from corrosion. My concern is that metal expands and flakes with corrosion and could build up on the top of the ring and scar up the cylinder or gaul and seize over time. Spray the oil,of choice in there let it soak and then try vacuuming it out and re-inspect, the cylinder prior to any cranking. Love the video, I bore scoped the piston holes on a 2011 f150 before with a Milwaukee scope but that one you bought had a superior image and the articulating end is super useful.

    • @MichaelSabo

Im sure the crank and bearings are not happy lol but if it were mine i would get some marvel mystery down the cylinders fill the sump back with it and start spinning the motor by hand very very carefully maybe some kroll oil along with the mystery oil to help with any rust or corrosion worst case you have some great content with a full rebuild that alone makes it worth saving in my book with the following you have. Love your videos man im excited to see more of this car!

Best solution to guarantee your sanity is pull it out and rebuild it so it’s right. While the engine is out you can then handle all the other issues like electrical and hood issue. Your have the will to make it happen!

    • @MichaelSabo

I have dealt with the same situation. Fill the motor with diesel and let it sit for 24 hours. The diesel will help dissolve the rust. Once you are at the point to start it, add a quart or 2 of tranny fluid which well help lubricate the internal components and free the rings. It worked for me on several floods

I say F it and run it but you should put the endoscope in the drain bolt hole so maybe you can see the crank and see it’s it all rusted or not. That should give you a good idea of where to go next. Can’t wait till the next episode, keep up the good work!!
