thank you!! Will you upload the rest of that night? I was there and would love to here this version of the Rhapsody again. It was amazing. a bit faster than usual and it was thus even more exciting to watch/hear him play.
So envious! I watched him perform live on Stage Plus. I also enjoyed the astonishingly seamless and effortless performance at a bit faster tempos. It is now available on Arte till December 4th. The fact that he played and acknowledged the artistry of Art Tatum speaks volumes! This young man is a living legend.
How wonderful to see Art Tatum, one of history's greatest pianists and harmonic geniuses, be acknowledged by one of our greatest living classical talents. Tatum died over 65 years ago, but his music remains bold, exciting and fresh. One hopes that great artists like Trfonov will continue to keep it alive in the public ear.

His performance 'Rameau' was calm and solemn, and seemed to represent the era. The audience was immersed in his piano. He expressed the evolution of the piano in this program.

Please listen to Art Tatum before trying to play like him. Strict time. No rubato. It must swing. Listen to Art Tatum and you will understand. Listen.
After listening, I prefere Daniil's s Performance . Clear,airy and not less swinging - his unique Touch of the Keys !
But we all hear and feel different - and that's natural and ok.😊
Well you're right it doesn't swing - much, but it's better than Yuja's Tea for Two in that regard - or Thibaudet's Bill Evans recording. Still, I'm glad contemporary pianists are up for playing some of Tatum's stuff because it makes (some) people go back on YT and listen to the man Fats Waller called "God."
