She has every right to question whether that is a legal service dog or not. It is her classroom and the safety of her students, herself and other service dogs is on the line. There are requirements for service dogs and the fact that this is a pit bull which NO responsible service dog training program would use for service is highly suspect. She can be asked if it is a service dog and if it is then she can be asked what task has the dog been trained to perform to alleviate her disability. I live in a country where APT type dogs are banned and bite stats have risen since that came in place. Psychiatric service dogs, for instance, can be trained to alert to rising heart rate, adrenal levels and other signs of an impending anxiety attack. Pit bull type dogs are great for psychiatric work because they're very in tune with their handler, and their stocky forebody adds a bit more soothing weight to their DPT.

I was verbally contracted to serve as an official at an event for students K-12. Just a couple of days prior to the event, I was informed that my service dog could not come to the event. But, the event coordinator indicated that they still wanted me there. I advised the coordinator that I would stay home. I know many of you believe that I should take action against the event/coordinator. But, I am choosing not to. Taking such action would only take money from future events. This would, in my opinion, be a punishment against the children who did no wrong. I hope that I am judged as the better person in this situation.

I made a comment about 8 months ago about what to ask about a Service Dog and of course people kept telling me that one of the TWO questions that are supposed to asked is wrong, if you look up on the ADA website, they will tell you what 2 questions that can be asked. Do not say that I am wrong unless you look them up yourself. Also, you are allowed to have the paperwork with you, but by law, cannot show it anyone who questions you about your Service Dog, since it is against the ADA law to ask for them.

Service dogs r not fully trained in less than 5 months. Service dog training can take 1 1/2-3 years to complete. Ur dog would be a dog still in training if it is only a puppy. And under the ADA dogs in training r not covered. However some states may have coverage for service dogs in training. A d service dogs can not be trained as protection dogs. That is not their purpose. They can not show any signs of aggression. If u dogs ends up hurting someone else, then u can be held liable for that, and ur dog could be at risk of being taken away and or even out down.

Further, an inquiry can be made as to exactly what the dog does to alleviate the disability. No responsible service animal training program trains pit bulls for use as service animals. The teacher and other students need to be aware of them and carefully observe the dog's behavior and report non-service animal behaviors. People are too often intimidated by people screaming discrimination. We were able to finally get the government to amend emotional support animal regulations for travel and there is more work to be done in terms of a safe provisions for service animals in the ADA. The first step is to ban fighting breeds from the Act and stop listening to pit bull lobby groups and their propaganda.

Just because the animal is used to address a psychological condition, it doesn't make it an emotional support animal. A psychiatric service animal can be used for PTSD or severe anxiety, and unlike an emotional support animal that's just there to be a glorified teddy bear, will have specific trained behaviors to help the person calm down from panic attacks, such as getting their person to sit or lie down, as panic attacks can in some cases disrupt motor control, resting across the abdomen to encourage slower breathing versus the reflex toward hyperventilating, and so on.

And u can have a dog that is trained to help u with that, which is called a PSD (psychiatric service dog).
PSDs help with many different disabilities like severe anxiety, autism, PTSD, etc....

I was verbally contracted to serve as an official at an event for students K-12. Just a couple of days prior to the event, I was informed that my service dog could not come to the event. But, the event coordinator indicated that they still wanted me there. I advised the coordinator that I would stay home. I know many of you believe that I should take action against the event/coordinator. But, I am choosing not to. Taking such action would only take money from future events. This would, in my opinion, be a punishment against the children who did no wrong. I hope that I am judged as the better person in this situation.

I sued the city of Vancouver for discrimination against people with disabilities for the lack of on-street public parking. The city offered me a cash settlement to drop the case. I refused. And Vancouver was forced to accommodate. From what was less than a dozen disabled parking spots in the city to over 1,000 designated disabled parking spots. As well as over 50,000 spots where anyone disabled can park on any street in a residential area that has residents-only parking.
You could have easily taken any judgement and donated it to the school.

I made a comment about 8 months ago about what to ask about a Service Dog and of course people kept telling me that one of the TWO questions that are supposed to asked is wrong, if you look up on the ADA website, they will tell you what 2 questions that can be asked. Do not say that I am wrong unless you look them up yourself.
Also, you are allowed to have the paperwork with you, but by law, cannot show it anyone who questions you about your Service Dog, since it is against the ADA law to ask for them.

Service dog training can take 1 1/2-3 years to complete.
Ur dog would be a dog still in training if it is only a puppy.
And under the ADA dogs in training r not covered.
However some states may have coverage for service dogs in training.
A d service dogs can not be trained as protection dogs.
That is not their purpose.
They can not show any signs of aggression.
If u dogs ends up hurting someone else, then u can be held liable for that, and ur dog could be at risk of being taken away and or even out down.

Is it a service dog or is it an emotional support animal? People are forever and always misrepresenting that important factor. That's a legal question that can be asked. Further, an inquiry can be made as to exactly what the dog does to alleviate the disability. No responsible service animal training program trains pit bulls for use as service animals. They are risky dogs and they do create potential liability.
All pets calm and soothe, that does not make them a trained service animal.
Actually. the owner says on the video she does have paperwork. So what paperwork is she referring to. Some bogus online "certification" her pit is a service animal? Some online "certification" of her diagnosis? There is too much fraud regarding service animals and the professor has every right to challenge her.
She only needs paperwork if the dog is living with her on campus, and that only while applying for housing. But to bring the dog into the classroom, she needs only to demonstrate while she is there that the dog is fully under her control. And they can only ask two questions: 1. Is that a service dog? 2. What task/service is it trained to perform?
And if pit bulls are "too risky," how come no service dog of ANY breed has EVER attacked someone? How come the ADA allows pit bulls to be service dogs? The teacher and other students need to be aware of them and carefully observe the dog's behavior and report non-service animal behaviors. People are too often intimidated by people screaming discrimination.
We were able to finally get the government to amend emotional support animal regulations for travel and there is more work to be done in terms of a safe provisions for service animals in the ADA. The first step is to ban fighting breeds from the Act and stop listening to pit bull lobby groups and their propaganda.

The video suggests that the problem stemmed from the dog's breed, not that he was a service dog. This dog is a good ambassador dog showing people that pit bulls are not a problem when properly trained and socialized as this dog obviously is. Education about dogs and the ADA law is needed here.

Just because the animal is used to address a psychological condition, it doesn't make it an emotional support animal. A psychiatric service animal can be used for PTSD or severe anxiety, and unlike an emotional support animal that's just there to be a glorified teddy bear, will have specific trained behaviors to help the person calm down from panic attacks, such as getting their person to sit or lie down, as panic attacks can in some cases disrupt motor control, resting across the abdomen to encourage slower breathing versus the reflex toward hyperventilating, and so on.
