    I do prefer Column View. I only regret Apple does not allow to automatically adjust columns size, according to each column’s content. Thank you for your videos Gary ! Always a pleasure to watch them !!

    Always helpful. You can also set a default view for any folder under the View options and each folder can have different default options.

    Excellent refresher. Saw some forgotten goodies. Thanks, Gary. I prefer list view.

    As always, a very good summation. I'd say I use the three about equally.

    Another great tutorial. Thank you. I use all four views (Gallery included) depending on the situation. I like the feel of list view most since I was a long time Windows user and it is most comfortable. However, moving files across drives is a challenge because there is no room at the bottom of the window to secondary click and raise the context menu...

    Offtopic, Gary: your tutorials are gems. I remember needing to know how to merge files. It was as if other channels were giving an advanced class in programming. You cleared things up in minutes saving me hours
    of angst. Keep up the good work. You are very much appreciated.

    I use column and list views almost to the exclusion of icon view, switching between them as seems most useful, for all the reasons you described.

    It depends on what I am trying to do, deciding which view I use.
    But I do like to start out in List View, which I use 80% of the time,
    because I believe it shows me the most information, at a glance, as others have commented..
    From List View, I can decide which view is best for what I am trying to accomplish.
    I agree that users should not get stuck in one view, but get familiar with changing views.
    The whole world of files opened up to me, once I realized that there were options.

    Most of the time I am team Column View. I find that's the most productive for me with the amount of folders and files I have. My second go to is the List View; for some of the reasons presented in this video. My issue is remembering what I named a file and where I put it.

    Great video! I normally use list view, but prefer icon view for images. In the list view, I want to open certain folder alphabetically, but another folder with in another order. Mac sometimes forgot those my preferences, and I have to change it manually, which is a bit annoying…

    Your videos are very educational and simple to understand, thank you so much. I have one question to ask if it's no problem for you, I can't fine the small slide bar at the bottom of the finder that resizes the icons ? I use it all the time and all of a sudden it disappeared. I have a Mac Studio running Ventura . any help you may give me will be very appreciated. Thank you once again for your work.

    • @macmost

      Use View, Show Status Bar to make sure the Status Bar is there. Also, keep in mind that slide is only for Icon view.

    On my Mac there is a bug in Column View arranging by tags. Sometimes the columns show blank or collapse after clicking "Arrange by Tags" or opening a folder in a new tab or window.

    List view with sidebar preview for me. Makes sorting and selecting multiple files easier. In my opinion.

    I like column view most of the time but would like the column width to be automatically adjusted to the current longest name. I know I can double click in the botton of the column to have it adjusted, but can that be done automatically?

    • @peterc2248
      @peterc2248 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Forget all the flash stuff apple, just add this proper useful feature in the next release!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the problem is that this wouldn't be as useful as people thing. The columns would change sizes unexpectedly and it would see like a bug, especially if the long file names were out of sight above or below at that moment.

    • @peterc2248
      @peterc2248 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Fair enough but how about 'sticky' column widths? It's so annoying having to resize columns every time or is there a fix?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@peterc2248 The best option is just to leave the window open. No reason to close it if you like the column. But also keep in mind that the Finder remember it, just on a per-folder (location) basis not a window basis. See th-cam.com/video/nKXCjD4HdpY/w-d-xo.html

    There is something annoying with column view, which I haven't worked myself around it yet: when the file name is really long, within a folder, the spacing of the column does not resize to the length of the longest filename in the folder (by default). You need to constantly double click on the column bar to resize it every single time.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that's by design. If columns were resizing all the time to fit the content, I'm sure that would be very troublesome.

    Hi. I often use both column and list view. The first, as you said, is pretty comfortable for navigate folders. The second is smarter because it remembers the last opened folder.
    Unfortunately, switching from list to column view compels the user to restart the navigation from the upper folder instead of the last opened folder.
    Thanks.😊

    I still miss coverflow. I guess list view with show preview is as close as we can get.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or Gallery View, which I don't talk about here. Gallery View replaced Cover Flow. But it is usually only used for previewing images so I don't put it in the mix in this video.
