Webber would have given them a lineup of Skiles-Anderson-Scott-Webber-Shaq. Keep in mind Orlando didn't go to the Finals until they fixed the PF position by signing Horace Grant. Now he liked to shoot from 15-18 so he fit nicely next to Shaq but who knows maybe Webber would have developed his game around Shaq and fit.
Looking back, I wish GS kept Penny. Because Penny and Shaq were both franchise players. But GS had the better coach in Don Nelson. This is definitely one the biggest "what if" drafts. Webber,Penny would have been 1st ballot HOF'ers (Think Webber will at least get in in the next few years) if not due to injuries .Then guys like Allan Houston,Bobby Hurley also should have had much better careers but didn't due to an injury bug.Then guys like Vin Baker,JR Rider and Van Exel should have had much better NBA career's if not for personal issues. Rider is a guy who could put up 20-25 one night then was not even good enough to be on an NBA roster the next.
They traded Webber because he and Shaq would never co-exist properly. Shaq was caping for Penny to come and then started to feel some type of way because Penny was attaining a celebrity that was rivaling his. He won championships with Kobe and still had beef with him and even had problems in Miami. That's with Shaq being the main man on those teams and with those guys being guards. What would happen with Webber in the paint right with him and fighting for boards and the ball right with him. They would've been intriguing to watch but I doubt either Shaq or Webber remain with the Magic past Shaq's free agency in 96.

Huge mistake in my opinion to trade Webber for Penny. Not that I think Penny was a bad player, far from it in fact but Shaq and Webber would have been incredibly difficult to stop in the NBA back then.
Penny was by far the best player in that draft. Not to mention Orlando also got 3 number one pics from Golden State in this deal. Golden State got robbed. Who could have known Penny would have an injury years later which would derail his career.

It's just that the first time Penny got injured in the 96-97 season, Orlando didn't allow Penny's knee to fully heal before playing again after he had surgery. He ended up playing 40+ games in the 96-97 season with a knee that was nowhere near 100% and ended up re-injuring his knee in the 97-98 season.

Because it wasn't due to injury. He went on a Mormon mission. David Robinson was drafted in 1987 but didn't get to play until 2 years later because of Navy commitment. His time away didn't hurt him one bit (except cost him 2 years of his prime), so there was no reason to believe it would hurt Bradley.

Luther Wright.....all that strength and skill in a 7'2 frame....all wasted due to cocaine ...kinda like Chris Washburn in the late 1980s this was a big man who could have been something special if he just didnt have a 5 cent head on his shoulders. Yeah he had battled weight also....but this was a guy who came out of college early because he had problems that was known about ....the Jazz took a gamble on his vast potential in the first round because they needed a big man to take heat off Karl Malone inside.....and Wright would have been that man if he didn't do like many players in the 70s and 80s and spend his rookie salary on drugs the moment he started getting paid...the Jazz knew it was a gamble...but once it was obvious he was back using and for sure had not beat his drug addiction the Jazz dumped him and because of his reputation for drug problems going back to his high school days no other team ever gave him a chance after that. He is homeless now....which is sad....this guy had talent not just 7'2 and this was a generation where if a player had that kind of size and could really play he could dominate....I always hated players like Luther Wright when I was growing up for wasting their talent...now that I know that to this very day Wright like Chris Washburn in North Carolina did also...ended up homeless and walking the streets looking for a fix...it all just makes me sick to my stomach...I feel sad...not for the players like them who wasted their God given talent and wasted their potential hall of fame careers or at least a long NBA career and they wasted it to ghet high and be a street walker looking to steal for drugs.....its just a waste and the fans of their generations are the real ones who got cheated....this guy could easily if he just half way lived up to his potential would have made a giant difference in Utah for the JOhn Stockton and Karl Malone team that needed a little more push to win a title....If Wright had not loved drugs more than his basketball talent....he would have been a giant upgrade over a few years later draft pick named Greg Ostertag the Jazz made still looking for a big man to help Karl Malone inside....Ostertag would have never even been drafted if Wright just had stayed clean. and Wright was a good enough offensive player inside to have been a weapon there as well as defense shot blocking and rebounding.....Ostertag was never anything but a shot blocker who half the time wasnt even interested in playing. Utah fans and basketball fans of the 90s were cheated thanks to Luther....therefore I feel no sympathy for him as he walks the streets still looking for a fix and still homeless to this day......he did it to himself it was the life he chose to live

I really wish Penny could have stayed in Golden State and Webber in Orlando... looks like Shaq didn't want Webber on his team and things didn't work out for Webber in Golden State but Hardaway could have done well in both places. Plus, looking at that class, the Pistons could have had Nick Van Exel or Sam Cassell but settled with Lindsey Hunter, they could have had either Van Exel or Cassell with Alan Houston which could have been great.

Spent some quality time on the DL during his prime yrs but he was a solid all around player.

This is definitely one the biggest "what if" drafts. Webber,Penny would have been 1st ballot HOF'ers (Think Webber will at least get in in the next few years) if not due to injuries .Then guys like Allan Houston,Bobby Hurley also should have had much better careers but didn't due to an injury bug.Then guys like Vin Baker,JR Rider and Van Exel should have had much better NBA career's if not for personal issues. Rider is a guy who could put up 20-25 one night then was not even good enough to be on an NBA roster the next.
They traded Webber because he and Shaq would never co-exist properly. Shaq was caping for Penny to come and then started to feel some type of way because Penny was attaining a celebrity that was rivaling his. He won championships with Kobe and still had beef with him and even had problems in Miami. That's with Shaq being the main man on those teams and with those guys being guards. What would happen with Webber in the paint right with him and fighting for boards and the ball right with him. They would've been intriguing to watch but I doubt either Shaq or Webber remain with the Magic past Shaq's free agency in 96.

It's just that the first time Penny got injured in the 96-97 season, Orlando didn't allow Penny's knee to fully heal before playing again after he had surgery. He ended up playing 40+ games in the 96-97 season with a knee that was nowhere near 100% and ended up re-injuring his knee in the 97-98 season.

David Robinson was drafted in 1987 but didn't get to play until 2 years later because of Navy commitment. His time away didn't hurt him one bit (except cost him 2 years of his prime), so there was no reason to believe it would hurt Bradley.

Luther Wright.....all that strength and skill in a 7'2 frame....all wasted due to cocaine ...kinda like Chris Washburn in the late 1980s this was a big man who could have been something special if he just didnt have a 5 cent head on his shoulders. Yeah he had battled weight also....but this was a guy who came out of college early because he had problems that was known about ....the Jazz took a gamble on his vast potential in the first round because they needed a big man to take heat off Karl Malone inside.....and Wright would have been that man if he didn't do like many players in the 70s and 80s and spend his rookie salary on drugs the moment he started getting paid...the Jazz knew it was a gamble...but once it was obvious he was back using and for sure had not beat his drug addiction the Jazz dumped him and because of his reputation for drug problems going back to his high school days no other team ever gave him a chance after that. He is homeless now....which is sad....this guy had talent not just 7'2 and this was a generation where if a player had that kind of size and could really play he could dominate....I always hated players like Luther Wright when I was growing up for wasting their talent...now that I know that to this very day Wright like Chris Washburn in North Carolina did also...ended up homeless and walking the streets looking for a fix...it all just makes me sick to my stomach...I feel sad...not for the players like them who wasted their God given talent and wasted their potential hall of fame careers or at least a long NBA career and they wasted it to ghet high and be a street walker looking to steal for drugs.....its just a waste and the fans of their generations are the real ones who got cheated....this guy could easily if he just half way lived up to his potential would have made a giant difference in Utah for the JOhn Stockton and Karl Malone team that needed a little more push to win a title....If Wright had not loved drugs more than his basketball talent....he would have been a giant upgrade over a few years later draft pick named Greg Ostertag the Jazz made still looking for a big man to help Karl Malone inside....Ostertag would have never even been drafted if Wright just had stayed clean. and Wright was a good enough offensive player inside to have been a weapon there as well as defense shot blocking and rebounding.....Ostertag was never anything but a shot blocker who half the time wasnt even interested in playing. Utah fans and basketball fans of the 90s were cheated thanks to Luther....therefore I feel no sympathy for him as he walks the streets still looking for a fix and still homeless to this day......he did it to himself it was the life he chose to live

I really wish Penny could have stayed in Golden State and Webber in Orlando... looks like Shaq didn't want Webber on his team and things didn't work out for Webber in Golden State but Hardaway could have done well in both places. Plus, looking at that class, the Pistons could have had Nick Van Exel or Sam Cassell but settled with Lindsey Hunter, they could have had either Van Exel or Cassell with Alan Houston which could have been great.
