As beautiful as Posy's video on Vacuum Fluorescent Displays is, I can't lie that I wish he included some vintage aftermarket car stereos from the 90s to early 2000s like the ones seen here. Aftermarket car audio of that era probably had the peak of VFD aesthetics yet it's often quite forgotten. Sure wish more gadgetry of today tried to emulate such beauty of these VFDs. What they have now is so bland and uninspiring.
That's True. only problem with this radio is the Tuner is Japanese, the FM only goes up to 90 mhz, Not 108mhz, and i have no idea how to the get the Aux in Working, Still Beautiful though, i also have a Japanese Kenwood 707, and a Pioneer Carrazzaria Fh P700 also have some vintage 80s car speakers and a couple of old 80s Cb Radios. i just love the stuff.

This Stereo was only sold in Japan. they were never sold any where else. they are quite rare. but there are people on ebay selling them now. Japanese Sellers. but they offer worldwide shipping.
I love MD's, they're almost indestructible and give crystal clear sound. I just installed a Sony MDX-C800 recording MD head unit (yes, really!) in my MGB that I restored during C*V*D, with a CD- and an MD-changer in the boot. It's not period for the car, but Steely Dan is!
Yes my son has a new Kenwood in his car with Touch Screen, Bluetooth, USB, and DAB radio, it's really nice. They are a very Good Brand, Check out my other Kenwood Video of My Kenwood M85 HiFi, I think You would Like that..
Круто👍👍Я помню в 2007 году купил себе перваю машину,, ваз21099,, первое что я сделал побежал в магазин и каюупил магнитолу рролоджи, сдичковую, с флешкой😁🤣✊
Yes i think you're right, most cars now don't even have a fitting for one of these, my brother has a 2020 Peugeot 208 and the radio is just a big 7" screen on a bracket bolted to the dash so he couldn't fit this in there even if he wanted to.
I wasn't sure if this is the sort of thing people wanted to see. But I've owned this for years, it was left under my bed. So I thought I would dig it out and make a video. I just made another video of my new rainbow led speaker.
@@80s_kid.You may want to do a full check on these hardware. Loading mechanisms can fail in time, and so do the tilt front panel mechanisms. Also both laser read heads need to be cleaned so have those cleaning discs/MDs ready......
i bought this for 15 about 6 years ago, i had it stored under my bed, so while i was making videos for youtube i thought i would dig it out, they don't make car radios like these now. these were at the peak of car entertainment.
i have to say no because i haven't tried. and i just looked on the front and it doesn't say anything about mp3, so i have to assume it does not play them. i think it was a bit early for Mp3 though, i'm not sure if Mp3 was around in the early 90s.
Yes but its a really early one, they were fitted to japanese cars, not sure what but i'd say skylines or something, i'd love it if someone from japan would comment and let us know.
@@beamboy07 Yes it is actually 2 separate units, The main Head Unit you can actually fit it in to a dash and it would work fine on it's own, i know this because i have the 707 as well which is the next model down, that is just on it's own and it works ok without the other half. but it has the plug on the back for the other unit.
These are a beautiful stereo, only problem with this one is, it was from an Imported car from japan so the Tuner only goes up to 90Mhz, Not UK 108Mhz, also i can't get the Aux inputs to work so i can't fit bluetooth to it, but it's still a lovely thing though.
This is a Kenwood D909 and M909, they were only ever sold in Japan, they were never sold for export. i think a Japanese car must have been imported to UK and the radio was changed, i bought this radio from a flea market about 10 years ago.
Its rare in UK though. i don't know anyone else that has one, The only thing that makes it slightly more common is Japanese sellers on Ebay, they have only been allowed Ebay accounts for the past couple of years, they used to have their own auction site called Yahoo Auctions Jp, i used to speak to some people from japan, and they told me they were not allowed Ebay, and when sold stuff they wasn't allowed to to ship anything out of the country, By Law.. Its only in the past couple of years that the law has been relaxed and they have created Ebay accounts.
There is a few on ebay but they're only being sold from japan. i think i saw one the other day for £220, but if you bought one you'd be charged about £100 import tax, i bought an old boombox on ebay last and the guy was in japan, i had to pay for the item, the shipping and £105 tax.
Nothing beats those VFD displays!!!

There is something about mid 90s car audio that you just don't get any more.
