So glad I found your video. Got my son his first BMX bike and as a mom trying to install and adjust his breaks, which I have never done, I went to TH-cam for help and your video was the only video that explained, demonstrated, and actually made sense for me to learn how to properly do this. Thank you so much.
Gotta love trek for making an awesome flatland bike and naming it the vert. I love those bars, used to have those same bars on a schwinn predator, they're missing the red dust caps on the bottom, also you might want to reroute the front brake cable through the bars. This is my favorite TH-cam channel 🚴
I have a 9/10 speed crank set on an 8 speed rear. And i am wondering if its worth trying a 9 speed chain as i can get rub in the small ring where it rubs on the outer of the big ring,on 4-3 on the cog. I understand 1 and two are cross chain so not worried about the rub there .Thanks in advance for any answers
Is it possible to replace one cable only of a lower gyro BMX brake cable? In particular the single cable that goes to the brake. I have separated the housing where the two cables come in then the single cable goes out. i can't work out how to remove individual cables and replace. thanks.
Thanks, you read my mine & my coments, great video, mr,. Say hello, keep that great job, so helphfull, about bike repairs, tools, & up grades, thanks, joe.
looking intoo the splitter itself , im having a electric recumbent trike with mecanical disk brakes and need an e brake levers for a e bike adaption that i'm doing to the trike i cant find a double pull brakelever with a switch for the e bike part of the system with the splitter part i could use a single pull e brake lever and split the cables below that using the top of the systen you showed to get it to work i need to put one longer brake cable in the split part and cut the balls on the end so they fit in the diskbrake calipers the thing you didnt showed on the how to is : can you open the splitter thingy on the cable system and if so wat type of cables does it take ?
Gotta get a Gyro this week because this rear cable is annoying on my bike. A Performer with no Gyro is like family dinner without any food on your plate.
Just got an old Mongoose freebie on the side of the road. I'm always on the lookout for my grandkids. It's an OK bike with 2 handbrakes and a gyro but the cables are in bad shape, along with the barrel adjusters at the levers on the handlebars. I'm trying to decide if I should bother or just leave it the way it is. The brakes work but I'm sure they would be better with new cables. The worn out barrel adjusters on the brakes levers are what concerns me. The threads are kind of stripped so I wouldn't be able to get much adjusting from them. What would you do?
You are very good you help me for my bmx but in our vilge theres no parts for bmx theres no break cable If you know some intrnet website for selein break calbels for bmx. Thx. Rj the bike guy. ❤️
Mark Ballerina It's basically a quill stem. Loosen the bolt at the top, lift the bars up a little and tighten it. See this video about the 1:30 mark: th-cam.com/video/-OiO9E17rr0/w-d-xo.html
Hi RJ The bike guy. Is there anyway you can install a rotor on a mountain bike. It's probably impossible because of the cables for the gears am I right? Or is it possible...
What would I do without you. Oh yeah I'd be screwed!! Thank you very much this comment may not seem like much but you should know you have helped me and my friends so much you are awesome 😎!!
Ok thank you, I just got a free bmx bike that has a seat post that is stuck, and I new to redo the brakes. Do you have any tips, for unseiging the seat post? What cheap brake cords do you recommend? Thank you for the help. I appreciate it.
I don't know exactly what you mean, but either you bought too short of cable, or cut it too short, or the cable housing is too long and you need to cut it, or something else.
@@seanfoster8102 I have no idea what you did, or the state of the bike before you worked on it. "My cable on the brake is too short" is just not enough information to go on. Too many possibilities.
RJ The Bike Guy yeah i get your point , but even in your country(us) and you come to stop sign to signal right and you hit the right side leaver for the rear brake your left arm can not do this inless you go full boss and hit the front brake to free up your right arm to signal right , but in practice its the norm through out the uk/eu/russia/asia that we use the right leaver for the front brake lol

Hey, you never showed us how the rear brake cable from the left lever gets attached through the head stem .How does it attach to the Gyro mech?
.
The other lever connects to the front brake and is a standard cable that just runs through the stem and steerer tube of the fork.
Great Vid. Nice tip on leveling the plates !
I watch your bicycle videos even though I don't actually have to. Interesting! Keem them coming.
Does the splitter come apart?
do an u have a video for the front brake setup
Thanks this was so help as a first timer putting in brakes.
Noticed there’s a long and short cable. what side should longer cable go on?
Thanks for this video, it's exactly what I needed to fix my kid's mongoose.
This is a very good video!!! Thank you so much.. I can now replace my rear cable with confidence.
what are the name of the spacers?
Thanks for the video. I plan on resurrecting my Dyno Compe, I’m sure the brake cables will need to be replaced.

Well done bike guy great job keep it up 👍👍👍🛠🛠🛠
Does anyone know what these parts are called as looking to buy one.
looking intoo the splitter itself , im having a electric recumbent trike with mecanical disk brakes and need an e brake levers for a e bike adaption that i'm doing to the trike
i cant find a double pull brakelever with a switch for the e bike part of the system
with the splitter part i could use a single pull e brake lever and split the cables below that using the top of the systen you showed
to get it to work i need to put one longer brake cable in the split part and cut the balls on the end so they fit in the diskbrake calipers
the thing you didnt showed on the how to is : can you open the splitter thingy on the cable system and if so wat type of cables does it take ?
so the only way to replace the cable is to replace all this entire structure?
I love your videos they have helped me countless times in the past thank you!

Probably replace the cables, housings, etc. Barrel adjusters can be replaced.
Thanks for the information
What about the front breaks

Mhmded Sehsd Amazon.com is where I bought mine.
RJ, where do you buy the BMX cables, and how do you know what size to buy for any particular bike? Are sizes for replacement cables/housings standard?
Amazon. Gyro cables are pretty standard size.
@@RJTheBikeGuy Thank you.

@@RJTheBikeGuyHey man, i need some help. I’m just taking off my brake cables to lube them, so how would i remove them without breaking the cable?
Yow man i need to ask you something , my vintage road bike when i paddle backward the chain falls off any advice what is the problem ??
might need a new paddle
Malemo Aker is the gyro kit compatible with any type of bmx.I want to install one on my bmx,it has not come with any gyro kit
RJ what handle bars are they on this video
Probably whatever was stock on that bike.
RJ,
What are the name of your handlebars?
George.
RJ thank's for the vid it helped me out keep up the good work
I had this exact bike as a child! I grew up and had to leave it in my hometown 😢
It was gold like that too!
RJ I need to know can u take the wire's apart an renew them? without buying a new set?? can you message me please many thanks.
Probably not.
thanks if you ever try let me know please.
Frankly I don't see a reason to try. If the cable is worn, so is the housing,. Replace the whole thing.
Someone on the BMXmuseum opened up a set to shorten the cables. It looks like a lot of work, though.

Hey RJ the Bike Guy what brand are those brake cables?
I don't know. Stock brakes, and I no longer have that bike.

I don't know exactly what you mean, but either you bought too short of cable, or cut it too short, or the cable housing is too long and you need to cut it, or something else.

Old vid this but the front brake should be on the right leaver, and the back gyro rear cable on the left
