came here from reddit. definately got some interest in having a full nginX proxy setup guide! wouldn't mind a writeup either if video is too much. specially because portainer now supports docker-compose version 3!
Hi mate, great video! Does the docker name forward only work if nginx is hosted on the same machine? Or does it also work if you you have multiple raspberry pies with docker installed? For example pointing to a docker image hosted on another machine?
Thanks mate. Very informative, straight forward tutorial. What are the options to hide our home IP from everyone else while still serving from home? I saw a guy on TH-cam, who had a VPS with public IP address. Then he installed nginx as reverse proxy on that remote VPS along with OpenVPN client. He connected that remote server to his home network via vpn tunnel. Is this only way to go? Is it even normally how someone would do it? Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Great demo! I've been playing with Traefik reverse proxy using Portainer. This looks MUCH easier! My next query is looking for a way to reverse proxy resources outside of the docker environment (say a separate VM or physical server hosting services) using the software. If you have to find a way to make it happen, I'd love to see it!
Nice. Very helpful video. Although I'm wondering where you're hosting Portainer and NPM container? Is that a separate server or is it also on a Raspberry Pi?
@@Techdox Could the load of a reverse proxy on something with limited resources (like a raspberry pi docker container) end up slowing a high traffic website down?
@@reeeick if you were limited to just a raspberry pi running a high volume website wouldn’t be the best idea but you could add more raspberry pi’s to a docker swarm and load balance over more than one raspberry pi. It would be best to migrate your server to the cloud where you would pay for usage and have more flexibility when it comes to scaling out under heavy traffic
FINALLY I understand what a reverse proxy manager is! Many thanks
Glad I could help! :)
I would love to see a video about installing and setting up nginx proxy manager!
I can sort that one out! :)
Full tutorial video please 😄
Another video request would be LetsEncrypt on internal only docker container
Planning on it! I'm waiting for my drawing pad to arrive, I really want that to show how things work etc :)
Yes full demo please
This was very helpful - thank you for the walkthrough!

I am starting to work on a video guide so hopefully should be out soon :)
@@Techdox amazing!
Really a good time for me to come across your channel 😉
So with this - can you host multiple Docker services on port 80 from your public IP?
That's right :)
Great video man, thank you for sharing that!

It be great to see a video that explain all this stuff that isn't trying to sell you some droplet, defeats the argument of self hosting.
Hey, sorry I think I'm missing the point you're trying to make. I don't believe the use of droplets was in this video

Sorry for the late reply! I'll try get some info on that for you

Thanks, all the services that I am hosting are currently on Raspberry Pi's :)
How much of a performance hit would a website take when being put behind a reverse proxy?
Performance hit? You mean performance gained because of caching, loadbalacing? 😊
