    Very nicely done video. I have the standard scout (2021) and bike did unexpectedly shut off once. I figured it was me accidentally hitting kill button. It has never done it since. I believe many (including dealers) will find his video invaluable when trying to diagnose these gremlins.

    This happened to me once several years ago, the dealer said it was probably a loose battery terminal. It hasn't ever happened to me since but will definitely look into this if it happens again. Thanks for sharing!

      Do you remember if you had the clicking/resetting circuit breaker when the bike shut down and wouldn’t re-start? If so, it’s not likely it was just a loose terminal. I don’t think a loose terminal alone would cause a self-resetting fuse/breaker to trip like I describe, only a short should do that.

    While watching this video, i realized that my 2021 scout bobber was intermittently shutting off during extremely humid days. I hope Im not just letting my imagination run away with me. But this is annoying when Im enjoying a beautiful ride and out of the blue... and while in slow traffic.

    At 2:27 where I explain reaching in to jostle what wires I could feel, and the short instantly clearing, that was reaching in and up from UNDERNEATH up by where the voltage regulator and ABS module and front center portion of the swing arm are, it was NOT fiddling with the wires up top by the fuse block and battery. When I jostled the wires, it moved the exposed black 2-pronged plug under the battery box slightly, causing the water droplet in it to fall out and thus cleared the short.
    UPDATE: The problem remains solved. I have soaked it another 3 times and no issues. My nephew has a 21 Scout with ABS (regular Scout, not the Bobber) and this past weekend we pulled the battery and battery box - less of a PITA now that I figured out how to separate it from the coolant reservoir - and his did NOT have the exposed plug at all anywhere that we could see in that area. He had not had an issue either with the bike shutting off like this. Hopefully it is a rare and isolated situation. If anyone else has this problem and it turns out to be the same issue, please comment here so we know. Thanks and good luck.

    We had the same problem and in our case two issues caused the problem.
    The bar switches are open contact and can get water or humidity in them causing no starting and on the other bar inability to toggle the display.
    Second issue humidity in the speedometer causing complete engine computer meltdow with strange lighting faults and no start.
    Funny how Hondas from the seventies had no problems.
    Placement of connectors behind or in front of wheels or any weather exposed location is stupid.
    Not good enough.

    Mine is driving me nuts I was going down the highway and lost the front cylinder now I get error code 651 5 for the front injector and I’m getting code 520547 5 and 520548 5. These two are not in the service manual and I use my multimeter and can’t find a short. If I unplug the front injector and plug it back in it fixes itself for about a day. I’ve had this bike for a month and I’m not looking forward to the service bill.

    Just curious where did you get the saddle bags? They look great. I've been looking for a set for my scout

    • @raisingcane225
      @raisingcane225  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are from an Italian company called ENDS CUIO. The specific model is “Tomahawk”. I got it in the two tone dark color and got the extra option of the Quick Buckles (highly recommend the Quick Buckles). They are kind of small but fit the Bobber very well and are SUPER high quality, although they are expensive. I ordered from them last week a square yard of thinner leather - colored as best they could based on pictures of the saddlebags - so I can have a local upholstery shop redo my seat to better match the color of the bags. If you get these bags and think you might later try and re-cover your seat to match the bags, it’s best to order the extra leather colored at the same time they make the bags - it will be an exact match that way.

    Hello, I just rode my 2020 indian scout bobber sixty to the gas station. Shut it off and went inside. When I came back out and went to start it, it is doing exactly what your describing. Ture the key and headlight flickers a couple of time then nothing. Gauge won't illuminate at all and the there's just a clicking sound every couple of seconds. I'm hoping what you found to be the issue is mine as well. Going to pull it apart tomorrow after work.

      Tonight I'm going to try what you did by removing the negative battery cable from the chassie along with the other ground wires clamped them together with plyersi and try the key and see if it lights up everything again. If it does then I need to look at that plug you're talking about a little more closely and really blow it out and clean it.

    • @raisingcane225
      @raisingcane225  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@714TRAVLES If you are going to remove the battery and battery box to try and access where the plug that I had exposed is, first MAKE SURE to look at the forum thread I linked to in the video description of how to remove the battery box. Without knowing how to do it it is a royal pain in the ass and you’ll never get it out. My nephew has a 21 Scout with ABS. Over the weekend we pulled his battery and the box - not because he had the problem but to look and see he had the same exposed plug I did. His bike did NOT have it, so it is possible to be an uncommon problem.
      There are some other potential issues that can cause a short and circuit breakers to trip. You may also want to read this thread where I first had this problem before it was resolved. Alot of people posted suggestions as to what might be the cause:

      @@raisingcane225 Last night I took the battery and battery box out. I blew out the plug a little and hooked the battery up I tried to start it again but the minute I turned the key on it did the same thing. Maybe I didn't blow it out enough. We haven't had the best dry warm weather here in Missouri yet. I'm almost certain you and I have the same issue. Everything you went through is going on with mine.

    • @raisingcane225
      @raisingcane225  ปีที่แล้ว

      So you had the same exposed plug as mine did?
      Aside from the plug I pointed out in the video, there were two more plugs dangling down just above the rear swing arm that were also exposed and not capped. I also filled those two with the same silicone die-electric grease just in case. But I know it was the plug below the battery box that had the water in/on it that caused my issue. I had previously jiggled the other two plugs and the problem had persisted, until I actually was able to jiggle the plug under the battery box and I felt water drip out. Hope you can resolve this!
