I agree. It doesn't even really matter how much you liked these bands back in the day. It's just good to see people reconciling as bandmates and friends. Life is too short.

Wrong. Read about Information Society's (Kurt Larson) experience with bands reunited. It's just as you (or at least I) would think. Nothing but fake drama, and a big comapny (Viacom) making more money. The end. If you don't believe me, read that there second sentence again and take action.

I was a punk and heavy metal kid but I loved this album so much. Secretly! Today it's out of print and very hard to find a copy. Thanks to the internet it's available again. That early MTV stuff was such an eye opener for me. I discovered The Jam, XTC, THE FIXX, Madness, Echo and the Bunnymen, and so on. What a great time to be alive!

    • @miguimau
      @miguimau 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Heh , same here. Some of my brothers must still have my copy of that 12" Love Plus One maxi (And vinyls from Sex Pistols, Rezillos, Joy Division, New Order, XTC, The Cure, Human League, Ultravox and others, BTW…) that I left in my parents house.

Watched this VH1 show when it originally aired. Told people it was fascinating- even if you don't dig the bands. The inside story of why/how fantastic bands break up is pure gold.
It has some cheesy 'reality TV' segments, but the host is genuine, and the concept is nirvana for a music fan.
This series tells a very human story, and I think it is one of the best shows ever put on television.

Way back in the My Space days, before Facebook, Nick was on there and completely accessible to his fans.
He wasn't doing much in the way of shows. He spent most of his time gardening. Still dealing with a few demons I think, (like most of us).
I actually had developed an email correspondence chain, nothing more than talking about life here and there, nothing in the fandom realm.
He'd send me a happy birthday message to my daughter, we'd share one or two inspirational lines now and then.
Once Facebook became a thing the MySpace nonsense went away.
He's on Facebook but it's someone else posting and managing it and I hadn't heard from him.
A couple years ago I opened up my email inbox and there was a simple, "Hello, hoping all's well with you mate".
I'm glad he's writing, singing and playing.
I was in England when they got big, we're the same age and I remember lamenting and thinking how his life seemed so much better than mine.
But it's all perspective, isn't it?
    He's a genuinely kind guy.
I did get to see Blaire play with McCartney in Orlando in 1991 I think was the year.
    We're all getting so old.
Loved Pelican West. Seemed like such more innocent times.

Man, I was addicted to this show. There were so many 80's bands I would have loved to seen whatever happened to them. This show seemed like it would have taken a lot of resources to track former band members all over the world. Surprising to learn how much animosity remained with certain bands which refused to reunite.

    • @cathridge
      @cathridge 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Being in a band is not unlike being in a marriage or a relationship. People united for a love of something, in this case music, let their emotions and true feelings be known. And everyone wants some kind of control in the relationship. When they can't get it, feel insulted or under-appreciated, that's when problems arise. Other times like with Sting and George Michael, band members just want to leave their band behind and be stars on their own.

I wish they would revive this show. There are a lot of bands they could feature. If they do bring it back, I would hope they could find a better way to approach the members because that whole staking out and ambush tactic thing is quite off-putting for the members and the viewer. At least for me anyway.

Lovely to see and great people. Nick Heyward is a man whose dictionary doesn't include the word 'bitterness'. But apart from the nostalgia factor, their music and some of Nick's solo stuff still stands up and hasn't dated.

Back in 82/83 it all looked so easy then years later you realise that they are just normal guys (albeit talented) and some have personal struggles. The folly of youth and the pressures on them meant that they probably made some bad decisions but looking back they appreciate what they had. I'm so glad all the guys made it and turned in a fantastic performance.

  • @AdrianDeVore

It is the classic case of bands breaking up due to poor management and personality clashes. Sometimes as fans, we forget that artists are people who needed to have balanced lives on and off the stage. I missed this one when it originally aired because I was a fan of Haircut 100. Despite their past issues, there was a lot of mutual respect and musical chemistry that still remains. Thanks for posting!

As much as Nick makes the excuse of mental and emotional exhaustion and self-doubt within the group, I think the truth of it was probably that he felt he was the real talent and star of the group, (which, lets face it, he was), and wanted to do it his way and go it alone. I'm not putting him down or anything, he was very young and hungry and also likely had his head turned by various agents and execs. He's clearly a lovely guy and probably looks back on ultimately causing the breakup of the band with a healthy feeling of regret.

This REALLY made me happy. I have this album on vinyl and I could never explain to people how much I loved this groups sound and vibe. How cool was is to see ALL of them not only doing well in life but they look great and HAPPY. I was so glad to see the peace in Niks eyes.More importantly I was happy to have them speak on how ORGANIC they were as a group. Not a label made, focus group mix of corporate ideas but friends with a vision. Thankfully they can play live again and record should they want to older, wiser and sans major labels too. Keep smiling guys. We get it. Trust me. We get it.

I was there for the recording of this show, Was recorded at the then Carling Academy in Islington (now the O2 Academy) You can just about make out the back of my head between Nick & Graham at 41:14. Was a great night even if they did only play 3 or 4 songs. Remember Nick screwing up the opening to one of the songs, think it was favourite shirt and had to restart.
Think the music channels should bring this show back always liked watching them..

I loved this show. The overlords of VH1 and the music industry are total foolish, greedy assholes. The only way anything like this would ever be produced again is if the "industry" smells money in it. The one common theme of almost all these bands demise, besides personal differences, is the record company slave drivers/creativity manipulators just fucking it all up and working the bands like dogs.

So so pleased that this all came together. I saw Nick perform at one of those 1980’s rewind sessions some years ago and he can sing. Wasn’t aware he had an emotional washout to begin with, so it’s great to see he got thru that and is confident enough to address head on. Brilliant that they all saw this reunion as a happy and cathartic not some revenge grudge fight.

It's a shame they broke up, Nick Heyward wrote some wonderful solo material. I'm sure they would have had more hits?.

The happiness in their faces seeing each other again is so genuine. And that live performance was amazing. The best episode ever.

Record companies are what destroyed these great bands, where you're tricked into your expression being compromised and/or manipulated for fame/fortune, where you fight with the ones you care about the most, where you might find yourself not lonely but alone. I've heard at least one horror story about every record company out there, what they've done to amazing artists.

First time I've seen this. I liked Haircut 100 in the 80s. Their music was happy and joyous. These guys are such a bunch of cool dudes, to be able to put their differences aside and hold no grudges, to then reunite and play good music once again. This had a real feel good factor about it and it made me smile all the way through. We could all learn something from this bunch of real cool and very nice blokes!
