I don't go to a gig hoping to just hear them sing along to their album, I go for the entire experience of the stage show, sharing it with other fans and enjoying the things that make a live performance unique. Lyrics: So the lyrics you looked up are mostly not that badly translated but till is playing around with german grammar quite a bit which makes it hard to accurately translate. When he says "Du hast mich" it actually means a couple of things at the same time: 1. "you own me" 2. "you hate me" (if it was "hasst" instead of "hast", but the pronunciation is very similar and the association intended) 3. "you did (something) to me" When he goes on to say: "Du hast mich gefragt" it becomes clear that the sentence actually means "you asked me" (you did ask me). "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt": "You asked me and i didn't say anything" "Willst du bis der Tod uns scheidet Treue sein für alle Tage": "Do you want to be faithful every day until death divorces (separates) us" english: " 'till death do us part" (marriage vows). As a German all i can say is that the english translation of the lyrics doesn't get the whole song. "Du hast" can mean "you have" and "you hate" alslo when spoken out. Also before they shout "No" you can hear a female voice sing "Ja" which means yes. I think the song can tell you more than just the translation version....
Funnily enough Till has said he hates working out but he swims a lot. He was a champion swimmer short listed for the Olympics in Moscow but he tore his abdomen muscles, then got kicked off the team for sneaking out of his hotel room in Italy which was a big no for east Germans. An honor for the artist(s) to have a stadium full of fans appreciating the artwork and an honor for the fans to be part of the act. The 50.000 drunk around you? Seriously? That's what you get at spring break. If you have ever been to a rock/metal concert, you would know that there are tenthousands of friends with you, including the people on stage. I've been to some gigs of international and local (German) rock bands and I've always loved to lose my voice while singing along on full blast. And it seemed that most of the spectators couldn't hold back, too. Especially when the lead singer points the mic towards the croud. This is even more impressive when a mostly German singing band like Rammstein is able to have that anywhere around the world. By the way, their lyrics are true poetry. Their ability to use the variety of the German language and to describe sexuality, violence, love, hate, fear and anger is absolutely outstanding. None of the existing translation apps is anywhere near to transport the sense of their songs correctly.

This us a hugely famous song of theirs, like an anthem almost, I think it's impossible not to sung along with it. the crowd is like Rammstein mimions and like it or not they'll sing their songs. This video is part of a dvd Rammstein - live Paris and it was filmed over 2 days and edited post production. it was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and the idea was to feel part of the crowd even from home.
About audience singing instead of the band: I use to say that if you wanna casually listen to a song, maybe sing along while doing chores, go for the studio version. Live versions have some exceptions (and this is one of them). But everytime I've been at a live concert, sing the song, actually listen to people around me singing the song... Idk, sounds almost religious to me. ❤️
I first thought it was fake and then I was reading an article written up about this particular as a whole. It mentioned how amazing the performance was and the fire and special effects. It touched on how magnificent the lightening effect looked live. So I was like....wait a minute. It’s real? So I did a little digging around and found other articles written up about that effect being “real” and not edited in post production. I went to reddit where there is a bunch of rammstein threads and there were some discussing their live performances where they seen the lightening live too. I’ve never seen them live so I wouldn’t personally know. I’ve been wanting to see them for over 20 years but they never come close enough to where I live.
The lightnings are fake. If you watch the whole concert (it is worth it to buy on blueray disc) you will see a lot of subsequently inserted visual effects. But not to foolish people. It's in the context. But the fireworks are real. Believe me, I am from Deutschland (Germany) and I have had visited two of their concerts. Referring to the lightnings: as a physician I can tell you that the lightnings are not real. Ask yourself where they come from. From an button made of white plastic? And if this is the case why would the lightnings went through the air if there is a guy who's electrical resistance is lower than the resistance of air? And how much voltage does it need to create a lightning? It would melt the keyboard and the person. Consider a few hundred thousand volts. I forgot to mention that this "live" video is from the blueray disc so it is a post production video. And I am a 100% sure because it lays in my Ramm-"Shrine" ;) And if you have any questions about something regarding to Rammstein and the German meaning of the lyrics, don't hesitate to contact me. With Rammstein, letting the audience sing the words works really well in my opinion, especially in such song as Du Hast. With some other band that people may not be so familiar with, it could turn into something awkward if the audience isn't sure of the words. But I don't think that's ever going to be a problem with Rammstein. When I went to see them last year, I felt like the audience should really respect the band by doing what they say. For example, Rammstein asked the audience to put their phones away and many didn't. Some in the front row said that you could almost see the disappointment on Till's face when he realized that people were watching the show through the screen of their phones. I the band wants the audience to sing the lyrics, it's fine, because we need to respect them and try to give them something back. And I think it's one of the greatest feelings for a band to have a whole crowd singing the words that have originally come from their pen. Let's allow them that. Since Rammstein is a German band, their cultures and traditions are different than American. Germany is well known for past history of leaders controlling large crowds of people and getting them to chant praises or songs. Hence why Rammstein has the crowds sing parts of the songs. Plus, it shows ultimate crowd control. That many people and one man can get the whole crowd to chant his song without saying a word. That's power.
The funny thing about Rammstein's lyrics is that they play around a lot with the German language. "Du Hast" means "You have", but when spoken out loud sounds a lot like "Du Hasst" (meaning "You hate"), so in this song, "Du, Du Hast, Du Hast Mich" sounds a lot like "You, you hate, you hate me" until they add "Du Hast Mich Gefragt" which cannot be mistaken for anything but "You asked me/You have asked me". The Chorus also plays around with the German Language. Here it is the Word "scheide(n)" wich is be part of a common wedding vow (", till death us do part" - "bis das der Tod uns scheide"). BUT "scheide" is the german name of the Female sexual organ, too. When you hear THIS, the song is not about Marriage but about Sex. As an addition "Lieben" is like the Englisch Word "love": Can be used in the Context of "I love you" but also especialy if you hear the second meaning of "scheide" it is used as make love to each other. So. The whole song is simple in Words... and has few of them BUT... its all about the double meanings here. Comparing the simmlar sounding words and putting them into context. So the translations often can not show what happens here. You have to show two different Translations beside one and another. And thats the cool thing. Both englisch Translations. ... This live release was edited with many special effects, as the lightning and text to each number. About getting the audience to sing is something i prefer in this number. It brings more power to the song and its a good interaction too.

I love when bands leave it up to the crowd to sing in certain songs. Like when Radiohead do it with Creep it is absolutely gorgeous. That poor band has overplayed that song, and it sounds so amazing when you hear a large crowd sing it.
I buy concert tickets to get a show. I don't just want to hear the band; I want to feel the band. Think of this...the next concert you go to and the singer just sings a few songs and goes home...you just got ripped off. Where Rammstein comes with many trucks filled with equipment to amaze you. They do NOT need to bring Fireworks or lights or even a outfit that makes you go wow. BUT they do. They get paid if the just sing a few songs OR they give you fireworks, a great stage, great fireworks, and sometimes they give you a little show. I play in a band that DOES NOT compare to Rammstein. Do you realize how hard it is to sync 2 lead guitarists? that drummer is amazing. Look at the drummers set. If I went to a Rammstein concert and I was singing along with the band...I would love it. I am part of the show. I feel that I got involved. If you watch the video and some of the reactions, people were amazed and got goosebumps by the crowd.
The lightnings are post production but a really cool effect. You should definitely watch the live version of "Sonne" (Live Rock im Park) which is even "hotter" than this one here. "Ich Tu Dir Weh" (Live from Hurricane Festival) has great singing and at the end an extraordinary pyro effect again. "Mein Teil" (Live from Hurricane Festival) is the weirdest performance you can imagine. The flame thrower there is just the topping ;-) You should read the story behind the song before watching it. I think I'm there for the experience of the concert. A small portion of the concert itself requires crowd participation is (IMO). And I'm expecting everybody to participate to create this amazing atmosphere where we are all together doing the same thing for a small time then relinquish our control to the guys/gals on stage
During a live show I would be almost disapointed if there was no interaction. I heard the studio recording a hundred times allready. I dont need to hear Till Lindeman sing it again. But to hear 10.000 people belt out "DU HAST" ... now there something that you can only have at a live show.

When you react to 'Ich Tu Dir Weh' (and you really should), it has to be live from Madison Square Garden. That version is the best. 'Du Riescht so Gut' is best live at Hell Fest. And 'Buck Dich' is best live in Berlin.
The "Du hast/du hasst" thing is a game of words, like so often in the lyrics of Rammstein. In one second it means "You have" and in the next second (partly in the same line) it means "You hate". It is a matter of context and Rammstein are playing with that context related double meaning. My recommendation for a reaction is the band (project) "Die Kreatur" and their song "Die Kreatur". How I feel about bands letting the audience sing it comes down to one thing; whether the audience wants it. a song like du hast for rammstein, or the bards song for blind guardian are staple songs that the audience loves singing. this is fine, even good. but if bands are complacent and don't put effort in their show / just dont sing then it's obviously a bad thing
The lightning is a post effect, but I have a feeling they're going to do it live, I already know of one way they could do it, it's just a matter of safety, not that that has ever stopped them before, but a tesla coil is a little bit of a different story than flamethrowers.
The audience singing to this is fine. Vince Neil from Motley Crue looking to the masses to sing because he can't or is out of breath is not. Also, if your the first band opening for 2-3 other bands. It's a mistake unless you have a huge fan base. It comes down to reading the crowd.

Crowd participation is a must with Rammstein. They do it in several songs...in the moment all the Rammstein fans are connected. The Chicago show some years ago with the participation gave me chills like none other. I'd like to see you React to Mein Teil (mine tile) live hurricane festival and Links 234 live Velodrome 2001.

One line is, "Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide". The comma does not exist in the original lyrics. Otherwise it would also have to say "SCHEIDET" and not "SCHEIDE". Therefore, the translation is, "Do you want until the death of the vagina". If you are registered there, you can have this fixed.
The lightning is post-production, correct. The tesla coils are just a set design, because it's industrial, this set has the massive metal fan towards the end. I've seen them live 14 times, several times on the LIFAD tour and it's definitely not real lightning.
Well, the one thing about Du Hast is you have the best version here. It needs to be the live Paris version. The power Till has over the audience and the pyrotechnics have no equal.

Good question about crowd leading vocals. My thoughts on it are if it is natural, let it be. We'll sing if we want to, if it's enough to carry a section I'm all for artists soaking that in. I can't stand when it's asked for, sure it would sound cool if done but don't force the experience. The best fronts in music get 75%+ participation with gestures alone, that is not a common trait so too many compensate by asking for participation.
Regarding "sing along": I think it depends on audience and song. For some songs it is a must. Best exsample is Blind Guardian "The Bard's Song (In the Forrest)" live. All in all a very ambiguous song with lots of room for interpretation. But at the core is a rejected marriage proposal.
My opinion to if bands should let the crowd do all the singing..i guess we think the same. Somethimes there is a place for it, sometimes not. But this one surely is one that the crowd came together to scream along..that pumps up....others..when they let the crows song whole text passages of the chorous, nah. if its just 2 word repeating..thats totally fine..who can resist to scream along?

1. I'm 50/50 on letting the audience sing. If it adds to the performance by creating anticipation or a sense of unity, then sure it's fine. Otherwise I don't like it. 2. Yeah the lightning is an after-effect. It's actually not even that hard to tell. There's no light from the plasma reflecting off any surface, on a stage with many reflective surfaces.
Its a shame about Amerika and Deutschland, the copyright on Rammstein Official videos are brutal but for the most part you should be able to do the live ones.

I don't go to a gig hoping to just hear them sing along to their album, I go for the entire experience of the stage show, sharing it with other fans and enjoying the things that make a live performance unique. So the lyrics you looked up are mostly not that badly translated but till is playing around with german grammar quite a bit which makes it hard to accurately translate. When he says "Du hast mich" it actually means a couple of things at the same time:
1. "you own me"
2. "you hate me" (if it was "hasst" instead of "hast", but the pronunciation is very similar and the association intended)
3. "you did (something) to me"
When he goes on to say: "Du hast mich gefragt" it becomes clear that the sentence actually means "you asked me" (you did ask me).

The song is about a situation in relationship nearly everbody experienced once. It's cruel for both sides and the gender isn't determining on which side you make this experience. (I already experienced both sides. So you can change "man" & "woman" in the following explanation.)
You can see the lines of a marriage ceremonie metaphorical:
- The woman wants to make the next step in the partnership. She don't wanna waste her time anymore. If he don't want to upgrade the relationship to the next level, she will leave him.

As a German all i can say is that the english translation of the lyrics doesn't get the whole song. "Du hast" can mean "you have" and "you hate" alslo when spoken out. Also before they shout "No" you can hear a female voice sing "Ja" which means yes. I think the song can tell you more than just the translation version....

Funnily enough Till has said he hates working out but he swims a lot. He was a champion swimmer short listed for the Olympics in Moscow but he tore his abdomen muscles, then got kicked off the team for sneaking out of his hotel room in Italy which was a big no for east Germans. Is it okay to let the audience sing a song? No, it is the greatest honor. An honor for the artist(s) to have a stadium full of fans appreciating the artwork and an honor for the fans to be part of the act. The 50.000 drunk around you? Seriously? That's what you get at spring break. If you have ever been to a rock/metal concert, you would know that there are tenthousands of friends with you, including the people on stage. I've been to some gigs of international and local (German) rock bands and I've always loved to lose my voice while singing along on full blast. And it seemed that most of the spectators couldn't hold back, too. Especially when the lead singer points the mic towards the croud. This is even more impressive when a mostly German singing band like Rammstein is able to have that anywhere around the world.
By the way, their lyrics are true poetry. Their ability to use the variety of the German language and to describe sexuality, violence, love, hate, fear and anger is absolutely outstanding. None of the existing translation apps is anywhere near to transport the sense of their songs correctly.

This us a hugely famous song of theirs, like an anthem almost, I think it's impossible not to sung along with it. the crowd is like Rammstein mimions and like it or not they'll sing their songs.
This video is part of a dvd Rammstein - live Paris and it was filmed over 2 days and edited post production. it was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and the idea was to feel part of the crowd even from home.
About audience singing instead of the band: I use to say that if you wanna casually listen to a song, maybe sing along while doing chores, go for the studio version. Live versions have some exceptions (and this is one of them). But everytime I've been at a live concert, sing the song, actually listen to people around me singing the song... Idk, sounds almost religious to me. ❤️

They maybe playing tricks during their live show but it sure looked real to me and I was pretty close up.
I first thought it was fake and then I was reading an article written up about this particular as a whole. It mentioned how amazing the performance was and the fire and special effects. It touched on how magnificent the lightening effect looked live. So I was like....wait a minute. It’s real? So I did a little digging around and found other articles written up about that effect being “real” and not edited in post production. I went to reddit where there is a bunch of rammstein threads and there were some discussing their live performances where they seen the lightening live too. I’ve never seen them live so I wouldn’t personally know. I’ve been wanting to see them for over 20 years but they never come close enough to where I live.
The lightnings are fake. If you watch the whole concert (it is worth it to buy on blueray disc) you will see a lot of subsequently inserted visual effects. But not to foolish people. It's in the context. But the fireworks are real. Believe me, I am from Deutschland (Germany) and I have had visited two of their concerts.
Referring to the lightnings: as a physician I can tell you that the lightnings are not real. Ask yourself where they come from. From an button made of white plastic? And if this is the case why would the lightnings went through the air if there is a guy who's electrical resistance is lower than the resistance of air? And how much voltage does it need to create a lightning? It would melt the keyboard and the person. Consider a few hundred thousand volts.
I forgot to mention that this "live" video is from the blueray disc so it is a post production video. And I am a 100% sure because it lays in my Ramm-"Shrine" ;)

With Rammstein, letting the audience sing the words works really well in my opinion, especially in such song as Du Hast. With some other band that people may not be so familiar with, it could turn into something awkward if the audience isn't sure of the words. But I don't think that's ever going to be a problem with Rammstein. When I went to see them last year, I felt like the audience should really respect the band by doing what they say. For example, Rammstein asked the audience to put their phones away and many didn't. Some in the front row said that you could almost see the disappointment on Till's face when he realized that people were watching the show through the screen of their phones. I the band wants the audience to sing the lyrics, it's fine, because we need to respect them and try to give them something back. And I think it's one of the greatest feelings for a band to have a whole crowd singing the words that have originally come from their pen. Let's allow them that.

Since Rammstein is a German band, their cultures and traditions are different than American.
Germany is well known for past history of leaders controlling large crowds of people and getting them to chant praises or songs.
Hence why Rammstein has the crowds sing parts of the songs. Plus, it shows ultimate crowd control. That many people and one man can get the whole crowd to chant his song without saying a word. That's power.
The funny thing about Rammstein's lyrics is that they play around a lot with the German language. "Du Hast" means "You have", but when spoken out loud sounds a lot like "Du Hasst" (meaning "You hate"), so in this song, "Du, Du Hast, Du Hast Mich" sounds a lot like "You, you hate, you hate me" until they add "Du Hast Mich Gefragt" which cannot be mistaken for anything but "You asked me/You have asked me". This plays nicely with the meaning of the song (because you are correct, it's about marriage). A better, albeit shortened (the lyrics repeat over and over again) translation of the song goes like this:

The Chorus also plays around with the German Language. Here it is the Word "scheide(n)" wich is be part of a common wedding vow (", till death us do part" - "bis das der Tod uns scheide"). BUT "scheide" is the german name of the Female sexual organ, too. When you hear THIS, the song is not about Marriage but about Sex. As an addition "Lieben" is like the Englisch Word "love": Can be used in the Context of "I love you" but also especialy if you hear the second meaning of "scheide" it is used as make love to each other.
So. The whole song is simple in Words... and has few of them BUT... its all about the double meanings here. Comparing the simmlar sounding words and putting them into context.
So the translations often can not show what happens here. You have to show two different Translations beside one and another. And thats the cool thing. Both englisch Translations. ... The one about Love and Marriage fits in the same german Words als the Sexual meaning. So you habe two Lyrics in one.

This live release was edited with many special effects, as the lightning and text to each number. About getting the audience to sing is something i prefer in this number. It brings more power to the song and its a good interaction too.

I love when bands leave it up to the crowd to sing in certain songs. Like when Radiohead do it with Creep it is absolutely gorgeous. That poor band has overplayed that song, and it sounds so amazing when you hear a large crowd sing it.

I buy concert tickets to get a show. I don't just want to hear the band; I want to feel the band.
Think of this...the next concert you go to and the singer just sings a few songs and goes home...you just got ripped off.
Where Rammstein comes with many trucks filled with equipment to amaze you. They do NOT need to bring Fireworks or lights or even a outfit that makes you go wow. BUT they do. They get paid if the just sing a few songs OR they give you fireworks, a great stage, great fireworks, and sometimes they give you a little show.
I play in a band that DOES NOT compare to Rammstein. Do you realize how hard it is to sync 2 lead guitarists? that drummer is amazing. Look at the drummers set.
If I went to a Rammstein concert and I was singing along with the band...I would love it. I am part of the show. I feel that I got involved. If you watch the video and some of the reactions, people were amazed and got goosebumps by the crowd.

"Ich Tu Dir Weh" (Live from Hurricane Festival) has great singing and at the end an extraordinary pyro effect again.
"Mein Teil" (Live from Hurricane Festival) is the weirdest performance you can imagine. The flame thrower there is just the topping ;-) You should read the story behind the song before watching it. And/or have the english lyrics on parallel screen.

I think I'm there for the experience of the concert. A small portion of the concert itself requires crowd participation is (IMO). And I'm expecting everybody to participate to create this amazing atmosphere where we are all together doing the same thing for a small time then relinquish our control to the guys/gals on stage

When you react to 'Ich Tu Dir Weh' (and you really should), it has to be live from Madison Square Garden. That version is the best. 'Du Riescht so Gut' is best live at Hell Fest. And 'Buck Dich' is best live in Berlin.
The "Du hast/du hasst" thing is a game of words, like so often in the lyrics of Rammstein. In one second it means "You have" and in the next second (partly in the same line) it means "You hate". It is a matter of context and Rammstein are playing with that context related double meaning.
My recommendation for a reaction is the band (project) "Die Kreatur" and their song "Die Kreatur".

How I feel about bands letting the audience sing it comes down to one thing; whether the audience wants it. a song like du hast for rammstein, or the bards song for blind guardian are staple songs that the audience loves singing. this is fine, even good. but if bands are complacent and don't put effort in their show / just dont sing then it's obviously a bad thing

The audience singing to this is fine. Vince Neil from Motley Crue looking to the masses to sing because he can't or is out of breath is not. Also, if your the first band opening for 2-3 other bands. It's a mistake unless you have a huge fan base. It comes down to reading the crowd.
Let's all hope Till Lindemann feels better soon, currently in hospital. Was suspected Covid-19 but looks like he's tested negative and it was another form of breathing problem. Hopefully he'll be back to good health soon!

Crowd participation is a must with Rammstein. They do it in several songs...in the moment all the Rammstein fans are connected. The Chicago show some years ago with the participation gave me chills like none other.

By the way, there's a mistake in the lyrics of "Du hast". One line is, "Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide". The comma does not exist in the original lyrics. Otherwise it would also have to say "SCHEIDET" and not "SCHEIDE". Therefore, the translation is, "Do you want until the death of the vagina". If you are registered there, you can have this fixed.
The lightning is post-production, correct. The tesla coils are just a set design, because it's industrial, this set has the massive metal fan towards the end. I've seen them live 14 times, several times on the LIFAD tour and it's definitely not real lightning.

Well, the one thing about Du Hast is you have the best version here. It needs to be the live Paris version. The power Till has over the audience and the pyrotechnics have no equal.

I feel the crowd singing is balanced well. Till and the rest of the band have licenses in pyrotechnics, so they use a lot of fire in their concerts.

You, you hate, you have asked me (sth) and i didnt answer :) the trick with the german language is: du hast mich (you have "asked" me) sounds exactly the same as: du hasst mich (you hate me), when its spoken out. there is no difference by the hearing. So that is so funny about this song. It plays with the lyrics. :)
Good question about crowd leading vocals. My thoughts on it are if it is natural, let it be. We'll sing if we want to, if it's enough to carry a section I'm all for artists soaking that in. I can't stand when it's asked for, sure it would sound cool if done but don't force the experience. The best fronts in music get 75%+ participation with gestures alone, that is not a common trait so too many compensate by asking for participation.
Regarding "sing along": I think it depends on audience and song. For some songs it is a must.

My playlist for Rammstein has been decimated because of the copyright laws. Unless it's one of their official videos that they allow you to watch, they block them and they are taken off of TH-cam or so it seems. I did read that the band themselves hate copyright infringement so it's not a management or record label thing. I probably didn't word all of this right but hope you get my meaning. LOL
O.k.! First: this song obviously is not the first in the playlist. Second: they always use fireworks and singer is exhausted (it is hot and tiresome not only for the body but for the voice as well)! You will NOT miss out when you do the live stuff...this was calmXD also check out some live stuff from the 90s to see where there started aaaaand how comftable and far Till has become/ come. The reason for the bad translation is: "Du hast " means " you have ", "du hast mich " means " you got me" and "du hast mich gefragt " means " you asked me / you did ask me " so the whole sentence isn't working in parts (as it does in German) when translated. Sidenote: some translate "du hast " to " you hate", wich is wrong, "you hate " is " du hasst " in German, very close but not the same. Sorry for any spelling errorsXD stay safe :-)

In the last refrain he is singing "Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide, sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen" which translates to "do you want, till the death of the pu**y, love her also in bad times" which makes the song even more hard to understand.^^ Because there is an ambiguity between "scheidet" (depart) and Scheide (pu**y). But it is all about marriage and loyalty. The choir is singing "Yes" (flames from below) he is singing "No" (flames from above). Rammstein loves to be controversial and ambiguous.
In this case, the audience can sing all it wants!!!!
This incredible crowd control is a trademark of Rammstein and no matter in which country they play, the audience sings in German 🆒. The Ring, which we say, is the legendary Formula 1 race track "Nürburgring", located in the middle of a central mountain of Germany, the "Volcano - Eifel" an there are more than 80000 fans on the target line ! Yeah, translating this one is difficult for two reasons: 1) there are several word plays at work here and 2) it’s even hard to explain them because the English grammar works very differently in this case. But let me try:
Obviously the first part of the song is a constant repetition, every time of which one word gets added which changes the meaning. So let’s go through it word by word.
Du - “You”
Du hast - “You have”, but it’s a play on words. It sounds the same as “you hate”
Du hast mich - Literally “you have me” or “you’ve got me” but again, it sounds very much like “you hate me”, at this point, most Germans would interpret it as “you hate me”. However, “have” can also be an auxiliary verb which is exactly what we’ll see in the next step.
Du hast mich gefragt - “you’ve asked me”, only now is the tension resolved and the meaning clear. It works because unlike in English, in German the word “me” comes before the word “asked” in a construction like this.
The rest is more straight forward and you can look up the translation elsewhere. Long story short, somebody was asked to marry someone else and said nothing and later makes clear that they do NOT want to marry the other persons. The wordplay kinda indicates that the other person might hate the protagonist and that there are other motifs at play. On the other hand, the emphasis on not wanting to be faithful for the rest of his life shines yet another light on it and maybe the being hated thing is a rationalisation by someone who doesn’t want to get married to anyone anyway.
All in all a very ambiguous song with lots of room for interpretation. But at the core is a rejected marriage proposal.
My opinion to if bands should let the crowd do all the singing..i guess we think the same. Somethimes there is a place for it, sometimes not. But this one surely is one that the crowd came together to scream along..that pumps up....others..when they let the crows song whole text passages of the chorous, nah. if its just 2 word repeating..thats totally fine..who can resist to scream along?

Till is currently recovering from a corona infection with pneumonia. He was treated intensively, but is out of danger.

1. I'm 50/50 on letting the audience sing. If it adds to the performance by creating anticipation or a sense of unity, then sure it's fine. Otherwise I don't like it.
2. Yeah the lightning is an after-effect. It's actually not even that hard to tell. There's no light from the plasma reflecting off any surface, on a stage with many reflective surfaces.
