Amazing. Big fan of both of them... personally, I think Will Sheff is possibly the best singer/songwriter in music today. Saw Okkervil live a little while back and they're coming back to town soon. Can't wait!
This is brilliant, A.C. Newman sings so good.. Amazing. And as always Will writes lyrics like it's the easiest thing in the world (and it sure isn't). Cant wait to see Okkervil live when they come to Stockholm in October! :)
This came on my random play for the first time in years today and I immediately had to pull up this video because, honestly, it’s better than OR’s studio version, which is too upbeat and goes on way too long. For decades now, some of my favorite lines from any song have been “And see how that light you love now just won’t shine / there might just be another star, high and far in some other sky.” I hated growing up in-let’s just say my home country that rhymes with “Schmamerica” and often fantasized about moving elsewhere-and I know that’s what this song is explicitly about, but it’s always resonated with me in that sense of a wanderlust kid having second thoughts about leaving.
I love this version even more than the album version. A.C. Newman's vocals are incredible, and I love hearing Will sing in that low register. It would be perfect if it included the banjo from the album
Great song, but what else did you expect from Okkervil River. Will Sheff is singing in quite a deep voice here; interesting. I thought he has a tenor voice, but this is a deep baritone.
what does A in A.C. Newman stand for? i know C stands for Carl. just curious. this is great because i love both these people severely, but its true, Will's voice just isnt suited that low. jonathan meiburg's voice on the original is just Perfect.
To be fair, Will is singing the verse that Jonathan Meiburg sings on the album. It's a lower tone than he usually sings. He tried to sound to much like Jonathan, I think, instead of sticking with a more comfortable vocal range.
@colacentral He's got a great voice and all, but covers of Will's songs really don't carry the same emotion that he's able to deliver. Imagine anyone else performing something off of Black Sheep Boy. It really wouldn't be the same.
I used to like metal a lot, but I realized there were expressions that metal didn't cover. This band, along with many other amazing ones, cover all those bases.
Wanna know what I see? I see two talented guys trying to outdo each other to see who can singer louder, longer or with more enthusiasm. One of these guys is wicked stoned, as well, guess which? Hint:It's the guy gyrating like he has Parkinson's/
@ItssStephen Well, for the -People- who do. The Hipsters lose the awesomeness they gain by listening to music like this by being horrible, obnoxious, annoying Hipsters.
Yeah I agree with BeagleGuitar...Will Sheff kind of ruined this. It may be his song, but that doesn't mean he performed it well, nor does it mean he is not a great songwriter We just agree this was a poor performance. Great tune, just Project man!

the day i discovered this song i played it 90+ times on repeat. can't wait for the album!
this might be my favorite music video on the interwebs
2 of the greatest modern day songwriters. Carl is a god to me. I will watch this a thousand times.
Sheff's singing the lines that were originally sung by Jonathan Meiburg on the album. Might explain the "tenor voice".
What else do we expect indeed!
awesome. i've always loved ac newman's vocal talents, he can really belt out those lyrics. this came out really great...
This is amazing. Can't wait to see Okkervil River in September!
yeah i agree :D
Wil Sheff is fantastic! I love him :)
love this song and this version is really good.
can't wait till the album comes out.
love love love love love.
my genius at the apple store who helped me with my laptop looked like ac newman.
Two of my favorite bands. Awesome to see.
The harmonies are soo good!!!!!

I can't express how much I love this.
Just awesome... for so many reasons.
I don't know how they can make so many good solid songs.
Fantastically played and totally great
absolutely amazing.
Such a good cover. Makes me feel like I'm floating.
Cover? Who wrote the OG?
Two of the best. Thanks for the video
So Beautiful!
Came from Transformers, stayed for your music
This is so great!!
Wonderful!
This is goosebumps amazing
Absolutely blows my mind that this was 14 years ago
Great job.

good choice on a.c. newman, they sound great together.

! my friend and i covered this at lunch :)
lovely!
Two of my favourite musicians of all time, squished together in one tasty aural treat!
awesome
brilliant
The covers will be available as MP3's at some point, yes? Possibly another mixtape?
Yes?
3:24 FUCKING POWERFUL
Superb...really really good. Now, can you top that? Andrew Bird on a future cover???
Will Shef is a damn fine singer!
FUCK YEAH!
Is AC Newman on the CD version too? Where can I find a recorded version of this?
Great song, but what else did you expect from Okkervil River.

seriously!
what r the chords for this version?

Disagree, Sheff isnt singing in his regular key, its a bit deeper than normal.
And this is a great performance, just different
Ya me 2 ;)
wow, i think i have a man crush on will sheff
@colacentral He's got a great voice and all, but covers of Will's songs really don't carry the same emotion that he's able to deliver. Imagine anyone else performing something off of Black Sheep Boy. It really wouldn't be the same.
Best of the best right fucking here...
I don't like Will's voice until he starts singing with AC Newman.
I used to like metal a lot, but I realized there were expressions that metal didn't cover. This band, along with many other amazing ones, cover all those bases.
i actually like this version better.
shopped
This is still a great song, but Will just paled in comparison to A.C. Newman in the solo pieces. But when they're singing together it's awesome.
As great as it is, I prefer the version that he and Jonathan Meiburg sing, as it's what the songs about in the first place...
will's guitar looks tiny lol
Wanna know what I see? I see two talented guys trying to outdo each other to see who can singer louder, longer or with more enthusiasm. One of these guys is wicked stoned, as well, guess which? Hint:It's the guy gyrating like he has Parkinson's/
Will Sheff should just pass his songs on to AC Newman.
@ItssStephen
Well, for the -People- who do. The Hipsters lose the awesomeness they gain by listening to music like this by being horrible, obnoxious, annoying Hipsters.
I have a huge man-crush on Will, but his voice is definitely not suited for that part. Otherwise, loved this performance.
Yeah I agree with BeagleGuitar...Will Sheff kind of ruined this. It may be his song, but that doesn't mean he performed it well, nor does it mean he is not a great songwriter
We just agree this was a poor performance.
Great tune, just Project man!
is it just me or does sheff's guitar look too small for him?
I believe it's a mini jumbo.
Wow, acoustic stuff like this really exposes the lack of songwriting ability, balls, feel, youname it, doesn't it?
Fantastically played and totally great
