    Very good comparison I really really like the design of the peak design tripod but there’s no way I’m paying $600 for it. There’s just so many other things on my list that I use that I could invest in with the extra cash lol great video!

      Yep. Peak design is too dam expensive. But the great point here i think is that leg twist locks fail first.

    Great review! I just got my peak design tripod yesterday. I ended up going Aluminum though. I couldn't stomach 600$ for only a 1lbs less. I really like the shape of it having all the legs be so tight that it can fit into a water bottle pocket was a big selling point. Its just such a sleek design. And so many little built in things.

    • @DavidManningvlog

      I totally agree with you Sam! Now that I’ve used it quite a bit more, the sleek design has become my favorite part. I think it’s worth the extra coin, but stoked that there’s alternatives out there for those that want a more affordable option🙌

    I was almost buying the peak design one, but then bought a gopro 10 and sirui 5c (this one), so far I am happy with it. I have replaced the ball head with a k and f concept generic one, which allows me tilt and pan. The default ballhead is not good!
    the smaller size of sirui 5c allows me to fit inside by backpack which draws less attention while I am walking in crowd at the city center.

  • @ElyPenner

    I have that $100 Sirui. Best purchase I ever made. Its light enough that I even used it for vlogging. I have zero complaints at all so far. But it seems your version is a bit different. Cause mine has 2 knows, 1 for the pan and 1 for the ball head.

    Hey David! I got the PD travel tripod in aluminum, a solid choice for saving some money. I have found two cons with the tripod: 1. It sucks for panoramas because it doesn't isolate the panning motion; 2 its great for locked off video scenes, but useless if you want to move the camera while recording (it goes all over the place). But the ball head is otherwise clever and saves a ton of space.

    Pronounced SOO-RAY.
    I have this tripod and I must say, it’s been pretty reliable for me over the past 3/4 years. I’ve taken it to Europe, Philippines and Patagonia. It’s held up well and while you showed it’s flaws (more cumbersome to deploy than peak design, weight limit) I can say that, while I would’ve purchased the peak design if it was $50-$100 more (not $500!), I’m happy with this tripod for a lightweight travel/hiking rig. You could get the aluminum peak design for less but that adds an additional pound to the already heavier carbon version, if that’s a consideration for you. I just can’t escape that $500 difference. As a Sony shooter that $500 could buy another lens or in my case, a new SSD for editing.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off, THANK YOU Jason! Had no idea how to say that. Secondly, solid points. The Sirui is a really solid tripod and for $100 I'm really impressed with this thing. Thanks for adding your recommendation on here. I think it's a tough decision, but man $500 can buy a whole lot of other stuff!

    Great job on this comparison! I’ve had a lot of tripods and can say that I have used my PeakDesign travel tripod more often because of its ease of use and generally all-in-one flavor - including easy clip in of my iPhone. Never used the Sirui so don’t have a direct comparison but ease of use can bring down per use cost if you use it more!

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man, ease of use is a greatly under appreciated feature in products! Just having something as easier to use means that you'll end up using it so much more. Great point AJ!

  • @SuperVidtech

    I grabbed a Sirui 5CX and another Go pro 10 for less than I would spend for the peak design alone..
    The 5CX has the upgraded pan feature on the ball head...
    Plus it handles my Canon 90D camera with any lens easily..

  • @Panotaker
    @Panotaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have the Peak Design carbon tripod. The one thing I hate is the bag. It’s too tight and hard to put in the bag. It looks like it was design by a guy that wears skinny black jeans. If they would have made the bag a quarter inch taller, it would have been easier to zip it up. Plus once you put a video head on the tripod, the bag is useless. I carry mine without the bag. The one thing I love is how it folds up, that is the main reason why I bought it. I have a few of the other type of travel tripods with that folding leg design, and I hate setting them up. It’s a pain to unfold those legs every single time. The Peak Design is a whole lot easier. Yeah it’s expensive, but it’s made for the person that already has an expensive camera and a bag full of lenses. The person with a cheaper camera is going to buy something else. That’s why they make an aluminum version.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve owned the Peak Design Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod for quite awhile now (since it was first released). Not once do I ever feel like I over-paid. I’ve taken mine all around the country with me, and I love it. It fits perfectly in all of my camera bags, and I even keep mine in the bag that it comes with in the side pocket of my bags when flying. I very rarely have an issue with the vertical angle limitations, as I’m doing video 90+% of the time. In my opinion, it’s worth owning if you can afford it.

Super small and way sturdier than I thought it was going to be for the size. The way I see it is you can buy 6, count them 6 Sirui tripods for one Peak Design. Nothing justifies that obscene price!!
    No doubt the 7lb capacity is pathetically weak and the center column becomes unstable if you raise full length, but if all you want is something to put your phone/GPro on when you hike or travel then it should be fine.

    The only reason one buys a tripod. To keep your camera, still and steady and get the sharpest images possible. All other considerations are secondary. My lad has a Gitso. Great product. I have a Sirui st 124. Great product. My Sirui cost just over £200. The Gitso cost close on £650. Both are quality products. Both do the job they were intended to do. That is to deliver the sharpest imsges. Both do that. No difference. The only difference is the price. A massive difference.

  • @thisiseric
    @thisiseric 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've used both and personally, I hate the peak design tripod. I love PD and own pretty much all of their other products but I felt like this tripod was a huge miss. I appreciate that they were trying to be innovative but everything about the head is awful to use especially when running and gunning under quick client shoots or when travelling with a tight schedule. I own 3 Sirui tripods and they set up and operate about 3 times faster than the PD for me and they don't risk pinching my skin like PD does. The way that Sirui uses twist locks and the small size means you can put your hand on all the twists at the same time and in one fluid motion, unlock and pull the leg out in about 1 second, whereas the PD requires you to use the clamps one at at time. Then for the head, the Sirui is already set up to easily shift from landscape to portrait instantly but the PD requires you to unlock the head and pull it upward and depending on the angle, you have to adjust how high you have the head making it finicky when you just want to grab a really quick shot. Weight wise, you can clip your bag to the bottom of the Sirui when you want it to handle a larger load and be more stable.
    So nothing is a deal breaker on either tripod, but I just had a much more joyous experience with pretty much any other tripod over the PD one and the price makes it really hard to justify. I love that PD continues to try and innovate and think outside the box so I am hoping their 2nd generation will address these issues but this first one felt like a first pass concept that sounds cooler than it actually operates.

      Finally, someone who isn't afraid to say negative (true) things about the PD tripod. You're right, that head sucks. I'm starting to wonder if I should get their universal adapter and invest in a better (third party) head for the PD tripod.

    If you'd pay about $ 50 more you'll get the Sirui 7C which is comparable in size to the Peak Design. ;)
    I don't know but this $ 600 (as expensive as it sounds) seems cheap to the Gitzo GT1545T where the legs alone costs over $ 500 (the kit with the head comes about $ 900)! :D

    Peak looks great, not 5x the price great though !!! I’d go with the Surui if I needed a new one (but I hate twist locks). I’ll stick with my old Benro Carbon Fibre legs I got for a great price & added my previous head to (bigger and heavier but more solid than either of those). Re: the bag.. in 20 years I have never put a tripod in its own bag, I don’t get why you would ever need a little bag just for your tripod.

    Nice review! Neither the Sirui 5C nor the Lone Peak would be my favorite for hiking. Check out the Sirui T-025 Carbon: length=11.8" - 51", load limit 13 lb, weight 1.3 lb, twist leg locks, and separate pan and tilt knobs. There are so many models that are stable and adjustable, it just doesn't show up in the photos or videos. $600 is more than most need to be happy, but for $120 more than the 5C, you get smaller, lighter, good load and more adjustable head.

    I went through this a few month ago and got the Sirui. I swapped the ball head with another one I had from a previous tripod that has the panorama knob. The legs when loaded with my bad hold the R6 with 100-500 easily. Would I put a 300 f2.8 or larger on either of these, no way. But for 99% of my needs the Sirui just works but without the PD "Cool" factor.

  • @pelanth

    TLDR: If you hike and aren't a hardcore tripod user, the Siriu is a decent tripod.
    I can confirm that Siriu does fit in the water bottle pocket of a backpack. I bought this tripod for hiking and I only use it when I have to because I have zero love for tripods.
    Some notes of my random usage across the last year plus:
    - If it's windy, that long center column isn't as stable as you would like. (If you don't extend it far and use your bag as a weight, it works fine in very windy conditions, but it's short with the center not extended far)
    - If you have big hands like me, you can untwist all the locks on one leg in one shot.
    - It survived salter water and the beach a couple of times while not being rinsed immediately after (a few hours)
    - The ball head works fine if you aren't doing something stupid like trying to use a Nikon Z6 with a Sigma 100-400 that has no tripod collar (I'm cheap and won't spend $160 for a collar for a $400 lens)
    - It's sturdy enough to hold it out with one leg and take a selfie, but a little heavy and I'm far too impatient to take it apart and use the leg as a monopod for that task (probably more of a reflection on me than the tripod)
    I hope this helps anyone out there considering the cheaper option.

    Perfect timing man. I’ve been looking at that Peak Design Tripod and have been wondering if it’s worth it. I rarely, if ever use a tripod what I’m shooting in Studio are on location - but I always bring my tripod to mount the camera on near the tether station in between set ups. I recently traveled to shoot a campaign in Texas and brought my freakin heavy duty - old school Gitzo tripod with my Arca Swiss ball head which probably weighs at least 10 pounds total - just to put my camera on in between takes (I’ve had that tripod for about 20 years now - dang. I’m old) . I also had a MeFoto small tripod for using at home for TH-cam videos or family photos - but I would never trust it on a production. This may be a nice middle ground that can fit in both worlds. Thanks man!

      @DavidManningvlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man Jeff, I'm with you dude! I had a Gitzo for years until I ended up just abandoning tripods for awhile. Now though, I'm rocking an iFootage tripod behind the desk and the Peak Design as my run around tripod. For some of its shortcomings, it's a really solid grab and go tripod with an impressive capacity for how little this thing is!

    I’ve been considering the Sirui 5CX (slightly more functional than the 5C for 10 bucks more) for my needs (mainly travel photography). The PD is definitely overkill for me, but I see why a pro photographer or a rich hobbyist photographer might go with the PD. I’ve also heard good things about the vanguard VEO 3GO 235CB,which is built similarly to the sirui.

      Man, why always these cliches. I'm neither of those you listed but still invested in the Peak Design simply because it's the best one. Period, lol. What's the point to have a camera that cost $2-3-4 000 and then you rely on a tripod costing a $100 :D

    • @michaeljewett1142
      @michaeljewett1142 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dicekolev5360 sounds like you’re the one fixated on clichés 😏.. not everybody here is interested in spending 2-4k on a camera rig, and certainly not 600$ on a tripod. And just because one might be willing to spend 2-4k on a camera setup, doesn’t mean he/she will want to spend an extra 600-they may rather spend that on a nice lens, or other Accessories. As David points out the PD is “the best” for some people and for some use case scenarios, not all uses. You think it’s the best and you have the money to spend on it? Good for you! Lol
