One of the iconic songs of the early 80s. This was the title song of the film American Gigolo (1980) and became a number 1 hit single world wide. Don't forget 'Blondie' is the band. Debbie Harry went on to do solo stuff later but at this stage they were a tight band. Cheers J.
Always here for Blondie! ⚡️ Update: This version is over a minute shorter than the album version! It just fades out right in the middle of the song! Caught me by surprise. Now I’m going to listen to the whole song!
One of the classics of that era Blondie was one of the first “bands” to rap within a pop song. They were amazing. That’s one great thing about being old (me!) we had all the great music.
Boy, that brings me back. I had the single that I listened to on my little record player in my bedroom while making dance choreographies that I never showed anyone lol
Blondie is an American rock & new wave band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry & guitarist Chris Stein. They had a lot of great hits in the 70's-90's such as "Heart Of Glass", "Call Me", "Atomic", "The Tide Is High", “Rapture”, "Picture This", "Hanging On The Telephone", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", "One Way Or Another", "Sunday Girl", "Dreaming", "Island Of Lost Souls", "War Child", "Maria" etc.
He was reportedly inspired by Keith Moon for his languid drumming style, and in turn inspired Reni of the Stone Roses. Jay really needs to do them sometime, they were the greatest band ever to come out of Manchester,
"The Tide Is High" gave Blondie another number one hit in 1980. The Paragons first recorded the song in 1967, followed by Gregory Isaacs in 1978. Check out those cuts too.
I remember Blondie being classified as Punk. I never cared for labels, for artists like this they are their own personal genre. The Band is Blondie named after her, she is Debby Harry. Confusing I know, lol.
Blondie is the name of the band the singer is Debbie Harry. A time when artists had real talent and originality, these songs will live forever unlike today's dross which no one will want to remember.
This song was released back in early 1980. Try their other hits… Dreaming, Hanging on the Telephone (1978) or Sunday Girl are great songs to start with!!
Great song! Song was featured in the movie American Gigolo starring Richard Gere. This was released in January 1980 and at the end of the year it was the number one song for 1980. It was heard on the radio a lot.
@JayveeTV I love the fact that you live for music (as do I) and being open minded as well as appreciating the plethora of music genres outside of the general norm, familiarity or what you grew up with. I was very fortunate to have been alive and growing up when musicians really pushed the boundaries and introduced new music (genres/sub-genres) to the masses. Back in the early1980s, music didn't divide people the way it later has and continuous to do so.. There was an amazing time when humans just appreciated music as a collective. Music did NOT divide us too much back then, compared to how it is now. True artists recognise others for whom they are. what they bring forth, and what they represent. You seem like an old soul (much like myself) and I wish I knew you IRL. We appreciate and value the best that Humans offer. I ❤ you!!!!
This song was in the soundtrack for the 1980 movie "American Gigolo" featuring a very young Richard Gere. Other videos show parts of the movie. I absolutely love this song and anything from Blondie of course. You should react to Blondie's "Atomic" song and do watch the video. You will not be disappointed. You will again see another side of Debbie Harry.
The video ended about 1:30 short. The record company must've done that...don't know why. If you like the diverse sound of Blondie, then "The Tide is High" would definitely be the next song to react to.
My guess would be that the "Official Video" was cut as a promo for the movie, rather than being an MTV video in itself, so they wanted to keep it down to the average length of a movie trailer.
You advised not to be driving whilst listening to this one. You were right! When this Blondie recording began, I was in Montréal. By the time the final chord was played, I'd arrived in Moose Jaw! 😅🇨🇦
From the soundtrack “American Gigolo”. Richard Gere played a high priced gigolo in the movie.🔥 Blondie is the name of the band and Deborah Harry is the lead singer. 👍 th-cam.com/video/4B_ekB0Gt8U/w-d-xo.html
@@jojobong-bong520 - wasn’t it??? I saw it in the theater when it was released. Much talked about especially when he did the full frontal nudity. To be honest it happened so fast I never saw it. Kind of like Fatal Attraction and Sharon Stone’s scene everyone was talking about. lol I believe this was his break out role that got his career started.
Blonde was the business, her voice her looks her attitude..she was a proper fire cracker ! As a young man yes I was in love.x great flash back I'm going to put Atomic on now. Cheer's fella 🇬🇧
Blondie was my favourite group in the 70/80's. Bought their records from around the world [and still have them]. Still got my Blondie fanclub membership card and the fanzine magazines [I'm 60] and still love their music today!
Great song, glad you dug it so much. Debby Harry knew how to captivate her audience. Very good singer. They got a lot of air play on MTV in early 80s. One way or Another and Dreaming are very good. She was a waitress at the Playboy Club in NY B4 singing. Believe she still performs. Great group!
My girl crush! 8 years old sitting in front of the TV in Belfast watching Top of the Pops and Dreamin came on 🖤 to this day it's still my favourite! Sunday Girl there's a few versions one all in French (she sings in French on a few tracks), Maria, Rapture where rapping is also featured, Heart of Glass, The Tide is High, Automic, I could seriously go on forever. Debbie's voice is sooooo unique & she's STILL a knock out! 🖤 The Bands sound is SO diverse and Debbie was a groundbraker when it came to being a woman in the 70s Punk scene in New York with mostly men dominated groups. I wanted to be her when I grew up, I still do although me "growing up" anytime soon is highly unlikely 😆
That intro, geesh. I want to put it on repeat; make it my ringtone. Not that a drum ringtone would be very effective. But it's that addicting. Her voice is and always was something else. How it pierces, how it resonates and rings out. Ear-catching, absolutely.
Blondie did go in different directions with their music styles and you’ll see that again with “The Tide is High”. My favourites are “One way or another “, “Maria”, “Sunday Girl”, “Denis”, and “Hanging on the Telephone “
You're right about driving to that song. The pedal does go down. I love Blondie. I sang Heart of glass at Karaoke and snagged a bf. Love that you are digging the music I grew up with. Hope you enjoy the next one!
Blondie are one of my favourite bands of all time. I'm 52 and been listening to them since I was a kid. You could easily spend 2 hours or more reacting to them and not be disappointed..
Blonde is one of my biggest guilty pleasures.. every single song they ever did is on one of my playlists at some point. Debbie harry is vastly talented.
this song was written by famous producer giorgio moroder and lead singer debbie harry, who added and changed some of the lyrics to make it work more for her. it was written specifically for the film AMERICAN GIGGOLO starring richard gere, which is why it's so distinctly different from the rest of blondie's catalogue, though it still sounds like blondie. fun fact: stevie nicks was first offered this song by moroder but she declined. can you even imagine how that would've sound? lol
Discovered Blondie as a young teenager hanging out in Baltimore at a bar called Joe's Organic Bar. Now it's a club called the 8x10. I never drank but hung there almost every night. I loved them so much, She was on the cover of High Times with a bright pink latex top. I wonder if anyone has seen that? It's from the movie American Gigolo, it was basically their second hit. Saw them on Bandstand and was AMAZED.
Debbie Harry has always been my favorite female singer. She’s amazing and she always changed her sound up. This is my favorite song by Blondie. It’s very suggestive. She’s talented and beautiful and sexy as hell. Debbie Harry was really a gift to all of us, especially girls. She was powerful and that spoke to us back in the day.
Blondie is a bad ass rock band with a string of hits in the seventies and eighties, lead singer is Debbie Harry! She is a very versatile singer and an accomplished actress!❤️❤️
Kickass video as usual, just for the record, Blondie is the name of the band, Debra Harry was just the singer. Awesome band, changed my music taste when I first heard them back in the late 70's. Rock on dude, dig the channel!
This is what they call "New Wave" music from the 80s. It was a rebellion genre against Disco. Check out another great new wave female lead Chrissy Amphlett in The Divinyls: "Pleasure and Pain" and "Boys in Town"
Aye, that's a great album, but for me it was let down by the production of Mike Chapman. Too polished and poppy. Their self titled debut and 2nd album Plastic Letters trump it for me. Those were their most inventive albums.
Genre here is hard rock. Blondie prided themselves on being able to master all music genres. You said, "The Tide is High" is next - a worldwide No.1 hit and that genre is reggae.
This was the opening theme of "American Gigolo" starring Richard Gere who was smokin' hot in this movie. The Band is called Blondie, not the singer. She's Deborah Harry.

J, you'll love their "One Way Or Another" and "Hanging On The Telephone" BANGERS!! Chris Stein on guitar
Yessssss!
🤘🏻
Yes , one way or another
Agreed! I love both of those tracks (especially “Hanging On The Telephone”). “Atomic” is another banger.
Atomic!

Always here for Blondie! ⚡️

Same here!
Fuck them. A calculated money grab. But the New York press ate them up. Just another money grab.
Shorter than the single version too. It just fades out when the solo starts.
Yeah it cuts out at the best part 😂
Oh shit, I thought I was just having a Mandela effect situation.
She's definitely a One of a Kind.
Original in every way.
Cheers!
Absolutely 💯!!! Brings back great memories 👌

...I always liked "Union City Blues"
Debbie Harry aka Blondie. Always enjoyed her. From what I recall, she was still touring even in recent yrs & still looked & sounded great.
Drummer Clem Burke is a not-so-secret weapon in this band. Check the song “Dreaming” to see him really steal the show.
Clem Burke is one of the greatest drummers around... 👌
Dreaming is a great song! One of my favorites.
He is the driving engine for Blondie. I loved watching him in concert.
@@andrewbedell-thepassingstr3746 💯 agree! He does not get enough credit or recognition.

I Love when she sings in a lower key. Yes, please react to the Tide is high and also to Sunday Girl!
Hanging on the Telephone is a music video by Blondie where you get to see the band members playing behind her.
She was actually an actress too. She was in many movies. The one that comes to mind is Hairspray

I can never listen to this song without thinking of Richard Gere in the movie "American Gigolo" the theme song in the opening scenes. Great reaction!
Debbie is so versatile. You should listen to her cover of the reggae tune "The Tide is High" .
The Tide is High has a reggae-ish beat. And Dreaming is also a banger.
It just kills me that your just now hearing this. Make me feel old. But its cool that you're digging it.
