Secret Menu inside a Notifier NFS640 fire alarm panel

The notifier panel is packed with features. Some are well documented, others are more secret. I have worked on these panels since 1990 and own a bunch of them in my shop, for training. Lets look at just a couple of commands that will help you service these panels.

RESET is not really a hidden menu. It just reboots the panel. Just like removing 24vdc and 120vac and then turning on the 120vac and 24vdc back on again. It is useful when you can't find the breaker.

if there is an alarm, Program corrupted..... what is the issue and what is the solution?

Upload to the laptop with verifier tools then download it back to the panel. That will clear the program corrupt 99.9% of the time. If you don't have verifier tools or if you are in a remote area, there is a way to do it over the internet.

Wait! What? You just creat a digital printer using the printer connection. You can also use teraterm app using usb to serial cable. Locate your TX, RX and Reference…

You could pull the loop OR you could disable the CBE that follows all modules in the disable menu.

@@firealarmapprentice4517 would any of these commands work on the afp-300/400? Been trying to connect mine to older verifier tools without much luck

@@mimi2 Oh you got me there. I barely remember the 400 because they didn't last long due to RAM /ROM issues. The the serial port rs232 or did they use a 5pin ? Make sure you have RX TX properly connected. Remember, its NULL meaning RX > TX and TX > RX.. the physical connection.

This stuff locked away and not documented just makes repairs more difficult. To be honest it should stop as it should be illegal and all cert. technicians (cfaa) should be able to check system configurations.Also fire systems like this are getting too fragile.

I agree mostly to your point but I would add this.. fire alarm technicians (technologists) or a qualification exceeding that of just an inspector should be the requirement for opening the hood and looking at the code.

i believe looking like being able to pull the programed information should be available to all techs on inspection (programed information can get corrupted though it could be found by other means its still a thing the industry needs to look at) . programing changes is like changing a device location and should require a verification. so i don't see harm allowing technicians to work on them but all resources should be available from manufacturer. programming fire panels (like setting up a router) is seen to be a hard thing its not " if information is available" and is made to do so.
