      Respectfully, you have no idea what your talking about.
      It is not figuring out if it's time to pay out. Every spin is random by law.
      The odds on the machine given all of the outcomes gives the theoretical percentage payout.
      Flip a coin a million times. In the short term anything can happen. In the long run it will be about 50/50.

    Hey Ruby, former slot casino manager here. A lot of good advice, but a few misconceptions. First of all, slot machines don't purposefully balance themselves out. The random number generator works like any other device in the casino. Overtime, a roulette wheel will hit each of its 38 numbers at an equal percentage. Over a short amount of time, it will not. Think of the random number generator as a roulette wheel with 10 million numbers. Each number corresponds to a configuration of the reels, from the highest jackpot to the majority of the numbers meaning a losing spin. If you added up all the individuals wins and it totaled 9 million, that machine (with 10 million possible combinations) would have a payback of 90%. Regarding payback, reel slots have a considerably lower payback than video poker and video keno. Since casino's publish a payback percentage that is a composite, if their number is 92% payback, then they are paying back around 96% on video poker and keno and 88% on reel slots. You can always tell the payback percentage on video poker and keno by the pay charts.
    I have a lot more I could say, but I wanted to add a strategy that works because it involves the players card. I'll post it in another reply, because this one's getting a little long

    If you are a casual slot player, then as stated in a comment below, it's being in the right place at the right time. I visited a casino in the mid-west on a family trip. I hadn't been in a casino in years, but decided to go for the entertainment value and the food. After dinner we spent about an hour playing the slots. I followed Ruby's $20 in 10 machines advice and started losing right away on the first 4 machines. On the fifth machine after the 4th spin I won a progressive jackpot and walked away with $2,400. Cha-ching!

    Good tips, Ruby! One more myth is the illusion of "ALMOST". The RNG determines the win, not the reels, which say, "for entertainment purposes only". So if the reels show two characters and you needed three, you didn't "almost" get three by getting two. The RNG had determined that this wasn't a winning spin, so any perceived closeness to winning is an illusion.

    • @gunkulator1

    One bit of advice I was a little surprised to see missing is making sure your bet per spin is sustainable for your bankroll. A lot of people go wrong with this for both electronic and table games. They come in with short money and only get maybe 10-20 bets/spins in with that bankroll for that session (not counting any money won back) and then are frustrated they lost it all. You're not giving yourself enough protection from the ebb and flow that naturally happens when you gamble. A good rule of thumb I tend to use for testing out a slot to see if I like it is to be able to have enough money to bet at least 50 spins, ideally 100 without feeling like I'm putting too much at risk.

      @@danger13i - Here is a trick that works two thirds of the time and only fails one sixth of the time: Take everything you've got over to the Craps table and buy in. Bet minimum line bets until the dice come around to you (you don't want anyone else grabbing your glory or maybe some sheister who works for the casino giving a bad roll or a short roll and wiping you out and there's nothing you can do about it). (at least for now, later, if successful, you can bet big on other shooters if you so choose). Once you are the shooter, throw until you establish a point (your first, or "Come Out" roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10). Next take maximum table odds on your point number and spread the rest of the money, ALL OF IT, across the numbers. Roll the dice. If you throw a 7 you are broke - that is the one out of six chance I mentioned earlier. If you throw a 2, 3, 11, or 12, nothing happens, throw again. Once you hit a box number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), take your bets down and spend the rest of your vacation living, eating, and playing with the profit you made on that winning roll. Now, if you only go with $500, disregard the above advice. You have to have money to make money. You should have at least $6400 to spread across the numbers (+$100 to 'buy' the 4 and 10). If you are unfamiliar with any of the terms I have used here, go to your local library and look for 'Scarne On Dice' by John Scarne, and read it. It is an education on the art of playing Craps.

For me, its no different then spending $50 on arcade games, I would rather spend $50 gambling having just as much fun with a chance of getting money back! Gambling is fun and entertaining as long as you view it as such. If you view it as a money making source, thats where issues can arise.

Once you start betting big, psychologically it is very hard to reduce your bet amount. So it is better to start slow and if you are having a good day, then you can increase your bet.

    Ruby commented on free play and said that you cannot win with it. "It counts the same as real money, nope". Paraphrasing yes but you can win money using the free play. Let's say you have $100.00 in free play and you start spinning the reels or graphics. Everytime that you spin winning combinations, those winnings are yours just not the free play money. Each time you use your free play money for a bet, the machine deducts that amount from your free play balance. You can cash out your winning combinations after they hit or wait until you have depleted your $100.00 of free play. The random number generator still works the same as far as winning and losing combinations. The only thing it doesn't do is credit your free play into your data, Other than that, this was another nice video by Ruby.

      That may not help you. As Ruby says, there is a calculator in the slot machines monitoring coin in vs coin out to stay within it's legally required payback percentage. If it paid a lot when the video was filmed, it may pay slower an hour or a day later, to balance it's return over time. That doesn't mean you won't hit, but it may wind up hitting a series of small hits that grind down your money. Does that sound bad? Not at all. Remember, you are paying for the entertainment. If a machine keeps you playing for an hour on just a few dollars by paying small amounts now and then, you definitely got your money's worth, even if you did not hit the "big one."

    Sorry Ruby, you described one part incorrectly. The machines do not keep "calculating" when not in use. Modern machines are networked, they are linked to a system. It's the system that maintains the overall payout % randomly across all machines. There are still some individual non connected machines, these calculate individually and maintain their own payout % meaning that it is retains its % when not in use. For instance if a machine has not paid out enough and it is "due" to pay out and Noone is using it, that does not randomly change, it holds that until it eventually pays out. Such non connected machines are rare in Vegas, at least on the strip.

    • @Gold-Standard
      @Gold-Standard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are essentially correct. However, I took Ruby to be saying it does not calculate while the reels are spinning. The outcome is determined instantly when you hit the spin button. So yes, it retains it's payout percentage status when not being played, but the random number generator continues 24/7/365.

    4:55 YES! I always tell people this. If you are betting $2/spin, you might as well play 40 nickels or 20 dimes at a time rather than 200 pennies at a time. Over the long run, higher denom slots tend to pay out more. If you can choose the denom, play at the same bet level at a higher denom. Especially on Link-style slots (Lock-it Link, Lightning Link, Ultimate Fire Link, etc.) where the Mini and Minor bonuses scale with the denom and not with the bet. I've hit $500 and $600 minor jackpots on a $2 spin on dime denomination. Whatever strategy you bet (progressive bet, ladder bet, oop and dune, etc), higher denoms tend to pay out more, so do it!

    I use three myKONAMI $25 FREEPLAY comps per Vegas trip, and during my last trip this past May I got a net $86 from the three attempts combined. So FREEPLAY IS unmistakably still a great way to make a net gain. =)

      From my experience, you should minimize your slot play in Vegas as they have the worst RTP (ReturnToPlayer) % setting as compared to local casinos in your home town. This means that Vegas slots are a lot tighter than the slots in your home town. In Vegas, even table games rules are being changed to increase their advantage…. Like 6/5 blackjack, triple 0 Roulette.
      I’ve now decided to only play games in Vegas where the odds are the same as the local casinos in my home town.
      I would recommend to play only a small amount of slots to see if you’re lucky, but never push your luck.
      There are so many other non-gambling entertainment in Vegas for us to spend too much time gambling in Vegas.

    Hi ruby. Thank you for the information. I sure miss the old slots. Even if hands would be black from the coins. And if you won you would be carrying your little change bucket it was still fun. Of course I would always look at the casino cage for those little wet wipes I always kept a few in my pocket. Even the smell of the wet wipes sometimes it would be lemon or something very nice added to the experience of old school playing. Just like playing real keno vs machines. You could sit down for awhile and people watch and have a drink. My favorite was Baileys and coffee this was really the only time I drank it. And even if I didn't play every game I would always check in the booklet if I had hit such and such amount what would I have won. And I would sometimes keep tab on numbers . I also enjoyed when you be sitting in the longue sometimes you would strike up a chat with another player you may never asked their name but for a small time you just had a new friend. I always appreciated those cocktail waitress they had a hard job. I always made sure to tip them. I enjoyed those days I know sounds like this was from long ago. But not really my first trip was not until 1991. But the 90"s were still on fringe of some of the older casinos so I was fortunate to see some of them. Have a great day ruby.

    Another good reason to always use your player's card is if you hit a handpay jackpot (of $1,200 or more on a slot machine or poker machine), they already have your correctly spelled name and address and verification data (you show your driver license when you pick up your card) in their system needed for them to issue you a W2G Gambling Winnings tax form. Yes, large jackpots are taxable. Usually you will only have to give them your Social Security Number (SSN) and you will be paid quickly on-the-spot. If you don't have a player's club account, you will be using a lot of your entertainment time filling out forms. TIP: Know your SSN. If you do not give the casino your SSN when you hit a major jackpot, the casino is required by law to withhold 30% of your winnings for taxes.

    Just be wary of the 90% return. It does not mean if you put $100 into the machine you can expect to get $90 back. Since you have small wins along the way, it is best to think about it like the total value of your spins in an evening. So, if you spin $1000 say, you might get $900 back but, and here is the kicker, if you put $200 real money into the slots, you have lost $100 out of your original $200.

    I've been working in the casino/gaming industry for the last 8 years now. Started in Marketing as a host and have been a slot technician for the last 3 years. Everything she's saying is 100% true. There's no secret to winning these machines. The state dictates the win/loss ratio and that's coded into the software when it's configured. Literally everything is RNG...it all comes to being in the right place at the right time. 🤷‍♂

    • @michaeljorgensen4423
      @michaeljorgensen4423 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but obviously there are some machines that have higher win rates. For example progressive slots often have lower win rates than slots without progressive jackpots. A slot like green machine is way more likely to win $1500 because there is no giant jackpot.

    • @Fade2BlackSS
      @Fade2BlackSS ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaeljorgensen4423 Exactly. That's what's dictated by the win/loss ratio that I mentioned. There's a percentage that's set by the state usually that the casino has to adhere by. Most casinos here in Illinois range from 72-89% or something like that. Keep in mind that that's just the rate that you'll win something back. *Not* the jackpot win-rate. That is entirely by chance.
      But once again, it all comes down to RNG. I've seen people play for hours and not win a thing. I've seen people put in $10 bucks and hit $17k in about 10 minutes. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Thanks for the video. I have to disagree on the part about stopping the machine not working in our favor. I've tested the stop theory on 2 machines. Example: On Buffalo Gold, the gold bonus coins have a certain pattern on each real. Especially when you're in a bonus. I've timed the reels/watched the patterns, and have hit countless Bonuses and Retriggers. When you get a chance, check out the last reel on Buffalo Gold while playing. Especially in the bonus. Look where the gold coin is on the last reel. It takes a lot of practice, but eventually some people get the hang of it. There are other slots that this method works on. Please note: this is not the rapid button pressing method. Take care and have an awesome day.

      None of this is true. The RNG on newer machines decides what symbols will appear as soon as you hit the spin button. Everything you see after that is just there to give the illusion of a physical machine with mechanical reels. Stopping the "reels" early only serves to end the illusion sooner.

    Every bet level actually has a different accounting chip in the machine. Switching can be good if nothing is happening on your bet level. You tend to hit free games and win more often on minimum because it's the most frequently played chip. Everything else sounds good.

      @@dancaroll29Unless you design slot machines, it doesn't matter where you worked. Slot machine outcomes are determined by the RNG. Period. They are games of chance, not skill.

      @@gunkulator1A chance of controlled luck. Payback percentage is NEVER over 100% with the exception of one Vegas casino for bar slots. So no it's not completely random. It can calculate what it can pay out. If it were truly random there wouldn't be so many mini jackpots on games like dancing drums. It has to be controlled and be able to decide

      @rachelleininger4110 - 1. No! You did NOT see Ruby "out and about" when you visited Vegas last November. 2. Ruby did not answer about the clothing "top." 3. What happened when you did not find out where to buy ?!?

    The payback percentage is based on millions of spins, some machines are bingoball based like the dancing drums but all are fun to play, great video Ruby.

    I stopped playing slots when they took coins away. I also miss the sound.
    Anything that can alter your play time, the exact instant that the machine stops its RNG calculator, can alter your luck. Just sitting there with a huge balance paid into the machine and mindlessly pushing play over and over, is limiting. Back in the days of coin-operated slots, I would always cash out when I won. That meant I had to dump coins in to play again. This was my way of changing up the RNG stop factor.
    As Ruby said, the other thing, is to quit while you're ahead. If you hit it big on one machine, don't sit there and give it back. Collect your winnings and move around... (which is another RNG shuffle)
