What a beauty. I feel that people on earlier days really knew how to produce things that lasted, not the POS of nowadays, with or without planned obsolescence, don´t know what to think.
WOW!! What a contrast between this and that plastic shoebox with the eco-friendly 4-cycle diesel behind it. And this old bus could probably easily keep up with the new contraption as well.
I remember these buses used to smoke like a chimney!! And the diesel fumes were so bad you had to close your windows or shut off the ventilation in your car if you were behind one!!
As much as I loved to ride on the buses in NYC as a youngster (1959-1975)... watching this video reminds me how loud and noisy they were.... riding in them always felt like you were riding in a hunk-a-junk... everything rattling throughout the entire trip.... I do have good memories of dozing off during long bus rides during the winter.. hmm..
This bus has been internally rebuilt a few times, including the year this video was taken so it's possible MTA used modern exhaust systems to reduce the smoke.
This might be a dumb question, but how do they rev it like that and not get any smoke? None of the other old look buses I've seen on youtube that are part of New York's public transit system blow smoke either. Do they just have really advanced emissions controls on them or something?
