There are definitely some compromises that will be made when you buy this product. But I will say this. The sound that comes out of this thing is amazing! All AV receivers seem to be having their issues lately. Before I purchased the Emotiva I was on my second RZ-50. I am hoping that when an update/upgrade comes that I will be able to send my unit to Emotiva and get it. I have been happy with everything that I have purchased so far. The Basx line has been able to allow me to have the big theater sound but not the big out of reach price. Keep on making things better. I am currently having the signal pop issue with the apple TV, and I wish that this unit had the signal pass through and being able to switch between devices with a click of the remote device and not the receiver device. Other than that, all of the other things that I thought I would miss... I don't. But having that sound... Priceless!
Emotiva amps are great. I have the BasX A7 works flawlessly but unfortunately their processors tend to be very buggy. I purchased the MC1 alongside the the BasX, ended up returning the MC1. Unfortunately it was way too buggy. I hope this new product doesn't suffer from the same issues.
I think they’ve learnt from that. I know it doesn’t make it up but Emotiva needs to be in AVR market. Look at this thing and how it’s built. The only other toroidal left in the industry is the Rotel and it costs $5,500 for 7 channel amplification.
I watched this video and ordered the receiver! love the mentality you bring to this company! Non-disposable products and transparency. I've always had marantz and denon products, but after the frustration of having my last 3 units break down after a few years, or the product generally feeling subpar/plastic even after spending over $1000 I'm cutting ties. Also, people making a fuss about HDMI 2.1 are annoying. Keep up the amazing work! P.s. Rgb syncing with Philips hue lights or my computer would be an excellent addition.
How did i not know about this..???...Iam am so excited to see this..THANKS BIG DAN!!!...I have multiple XPA Emotivas, and they are built like tanks, and never fail..My oldest one i bought in 2014, and is used everday..Ive been wanting to upgrade my Denon with a newer Denon or Marantz, they are now 4500.00 to 6500.00..Now Emotiva has built this Sherman tank its a no brainer..Ill be buying this very soon, finally after all my looking around this pops up in my feed..
This looks pretty awesome! I am a two channel guy with one eye on future HT expansion, so here are two features I'd like to see in a product like this: 1) XLR out for the LCR in addition to RCA. (Weather or not the cables make a difference, some high end amps only accept XLR these days.) 2) Optical output to run the front two channel system off a discreet DAC. Upstream DSP functionality should be available, but also defeatable. If you implement these features in an MR2, I might have no choice but to buy one! I always wanted an MR2... ;)
Well Zack it's your lucky day, if your after a flagship mint condition Mr2 look no further if your prepared for shipment to America from UK. But every mention you write is a no brainer. Making a choice and getting it right is the way to go.... and the XLR, pre outs, phono outs Atmos support and hdmi 2.1 are all nessessaties. Trouble is finding a machine with all the features
I watched this video yesterday, and I just finished watching the Randy The Cheap Audio Man video. I am really looking forward to getting one of these. I already have the Emotiva speakers. T1+, C1+ and two pairs of the E2+.
Glad you guys are building a 11ch AVR at this low of a price point. The price on 11 channel AVR's has gone through the roof, and it's my personal believe that your not experiencing "real" Atmos until you have a 7.1.4 system.
McIntosh rated their new receiver with all channels driven but it is going to cost $8k. Does have Dirac though. You guys make great stuff. Really like the sound quality from my emo gear. Can’t wait for your gen 4 processors.
I find it funny that people completely disregard the product because it doesn't have HDMI 2.1. As he explained, you can use eARC from the receiver to the monitor, etc. Why people need multiple 8k sources connected to an amp is just silly. A ps5 or xbox series can give you all the 8k video playback you need, connected directly to the monitor with minimal latency. You sure as shit ain't going to find an "AVR" with this kind of power for less than 2100
Well, at this level of the hobby, a lot of us might use a product like this in conjunction with a projector in a dedicated room. Not every setup is a TV that's 6 feet away from the AVR.
Thanks for the review! As a fellow dealer, We can definitely confirm that Emotiva BasX MR1 11.2 Channel Atmos receiver that takes your home theater audio to the next level. Really nice product Emotiva! And I agree with the crazy 8k hysteria - if you are a serious gamer you should hook the video game console directly to the TV as he states.
This is the receiver i've been hoping Yamaha would build. lots of power, toroidal power, 7.2.4 all in one. and no crap i dont need. i know zero people with 8k so why waste money on it. i dont want/will never use auro 3d. good job Emotiva!
Hey Emotiva, since youre listening to customers, and I am a very long time customer and champion of your products, heres my humble request. Im sure others would be interested too. A high end (not BasX) stereo preamplifier with no dac or anything else, just a pure, high performance preamp like the Topping Pre 90, but with Dirac Live.
Hey Billy... I have the Onkyo RZ-50 now and it runs with Dirac Live. It made a good improvement to my sound since I don't have room treatment. I haven't made any manual adjustments yet because I'm not familiar with where to fine tune the frequencies on the graphs.
@@shaolin95 Yeah, but is Dirac the cure-all? If you have Dirac, does nothing else matter? I have no doubt Dirac can improve the sound of a system but up to a certain point. This is an audiophile level system and it has Room Correction that you can tweak real-time to make corrections.
All sub $2000 AVRs have trade offs. The RZ50 has Dirac, but the Amp goes into limp mode at 50 watts/channel. Emotiva chose a larger amp and a less capable room correction system.
Is HDMI 2.1 integration such a mess? I get the eARC for Gamers but 2.1 on a unit that will be relevant for decade+ seems to be a miss. Yes, my OLED has ALLM VRR 120Hz gaming and eARC but switching input and media with multiple remotes etc is what you'd hope to avoid with a center piece like this. Is the cost that much more? Now you need to choose what is the center piece. This or your TV when you enjoy both movies and games. I guess it's all part of the learning curve. Smart TV features essentially require TV remotes. At this rate I might as well keep using my Yamaha RX-V2095 from 1998 despite the value the MR1 represents. We run PC gaming, Series X and PS5 and streaming services. My 2019 C9 has 4 HDMI 2.1 48Gb/s inputs.
@@EmotivaAudioCorp It's just the truth. I currently have an XPA-TWO & a pair of the XS12 subwoofers. Love 'em all, too. I'm going to add the XDA-3 to my system next.
This is a nice receiver by the looks of it and all that I've been able to read. I also am buying one to push 4ohm speakers. But I wish it had a phono in and am/fm as I like the radio at times.
I've been wanting you to make an AVR since forever. I'm rocking an Onkyo and, as you know, while it's more than decent it only provides ratings 2-ch driven and lacks the necessary power to drive my speakers at their best. The fact this pushes 130W/Ch RMS @ 4 Ohms all-ch driven is nuts. I hope it supports bi-amping for the main front speakers, so that if height speakers aren't used, you can bi-amp the front tower speakers to drive them properly. If it only had a phono input for a turntable and 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports it would be just perfect. Maybe for the next model ;)
I’m not so sure about this. Some cool stuff in the design philosophy: 11 channels of amplification with a ton of power. Balanced sub outputs. Built in PEQ. But Emotiva products are very dated when it comes to the UI and control. Also, very spotty with the HDMI switching from my experience. In regards to HDMI 2.1, I personally don’t have a use for it in my theater but I would still factor it in to my decision if I was purchasing a new AVR or processor. Lastly, the room correction is not good. So, while it’s a cool product with some nice features I still think there’s a lot going against it.
Fantastic! Iwas waiting for the release of Marantz Cinema 40 or Denon AVR4800 to upgrade my current AVR. Wooow this AVR blew my mind. I think my decision just changed...now I´m going 4 the MR1 😍👋👋😵💫
. Like cheapaudioman? That guy thinks garbage class d Chinese made amps for $100.00 are the best thing since sliced bread. Gimme a break. Andrew Robinson is very well respected in his reviews, and some suppliers cut him off for his honesty.
@Tech4Life Andrew makes very good reviews that are enjoyable to watch! Are they deep dives into the build nope, but they give a good over all comparison and normal utility.
@@Audiomainia2310, like I stated earlier. There are more qualified reviewers than Andrew Robinson. What does @Cheapaudioman have to do with talking about Andrew Robinson?. Why bring in someone who has absolutely nothing to do with this without him being able to defend himself?. You must be an audiophile yourself. If so, that will explain everything to me. Audiophiles look for a certain setup that's perfect to their ears and never find it and the whole time they try so hard to convince everyone who'd listen to them that they can hear things only audiophiles can hear. Like audiophiles have some special kind of hearing given to them by GOD himself. Cheapaudioman is a good man. No need to disrespect him. Great presentation and very impressed with the build quality of this unit. However, on a very minor note, shouldn't this product be considered an "Integrated Amplifier"? I always thought a "Receiver" is denoted as such when a radio tuner is built into it.
Really like your receivers and was so close to pulling the trigger on one, but the lack of a headphone jack was the deal breaker. I know seems like a petty thing to get hung up on, but really need that jack and honestly how much extra could it cost to put that on a receiver?
My front layer speakers are Martin Logan Foundation F2 and a C1, which are 4 ohm speakers. The rest are NHT Superzero which are 8 ohms. Can I connect and mix 4 & 8 ohm speakers to the BasX MR1 receiver?
Question: I own KEF reference model 2 speakers that I bought 30 years ago and it in mint condition. I would love to get a Mc Intosh 300 watts amplifier because I love the way it PUNCHS the bass but paying 7,000$ is out of my range of price. Would this amp give me that bass punch I’m looking for let’s I listen to heavy rock ?
Emotiva is for sure a good audio company, but it looks like they forgot the entire point of AVRs is to be current and up to date with video technology... I also will not be getting this model where I would have if it had HDMI 2.1 which I need.
Yeah. This is a big issue. I want to run one cable to my display. If I have multiple sources that can do 8k, ALL, VRR, etc I would like my receiver/processor handle this.
My RMC1L has a static popping noise every time that I switch content😡 I send for service and the problem remains. This problem is there since the first time that I bought it new😡 big mistake I paid $4000.00+.
!QUESTION! - Can the outputs be renamed for different configurations? Explanation: Ultimately, I want to end up at 9.2.4 configuration, including 2 front wide channels, which would require another amp, (plan for another day), but I would plan to use a Basx A2 or A3 to drive the front 2 or 3 channels respectively . In the meantime, I'd be happy running this as a 7.2.4 (minus the front wides), or as a 9.2.2 (with the front wides). Of those two options, I'd prefer the 9.2.2 setup since I already own the front wide speakers, and would just have to purchase 2 atmos channels. In regards to all of the above, can the outputs be reconfigured even through they are labeled what they are on that back, or are you stuck using them as labeled? If anyone could answer, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thank you!
I could buy any other company's product and be good to go for gaming, or I could buy Emotive and have to pull another cable through my walls and ceiling to the projector, then pray eARC actually works and that the projector is capable of outputting audio to a different HDMI cable than the input cable. What do you think I'm going to do? I love the amps, but charge $200 more and sell us a product we can use, please. I literally had this in the shopping cart when I saw this 2.0 insanity. If I were CEO at Emotiva, heads would be rolling right now.
This just might be my next AVR! Curious, are there future plans to manufacturer your own DVD BluRay player, similar to your CD player? Sorry, I don’t mean to inquire about something else as you are already unveiling a new awesome product. I was just wondering.
Excellent for the price, but I think it needs a dirac live upgrade option, 48 gb HDMI 2.1 with hdcp 2.3, and an auro-3D up mixer. That would be perfection.
Question I have any chance of emo coming out with 16x2/4 switch, plus a legacy solution adding 10-16 a/v to 2xhdmi output with 11x pass through looking for hdmi and av solutions of greater capacities looking from a gamer/streamer perspective here with something that can live in rack beside or under this,, have perchance looked in pioneer receivers what would be a weight difference between 1 single toroid vs 11 smaller toroids???
Something kept telling me to hold off on grabbing one of Denons latest receiver. This dropped just in the thick of tax season too. Emotiva, you guys think you know what you're doing, huh'. I'm gonna' need every tax deduction available for this one...
Now this is how you do a presentation, straight to the point no shenanigans. Great job all around.

I am currently having the signal pop issue with the apple TV, and I wish that this unit had the signal pass through and being able to switch between devices with a click of the remote device and not the receiver device. Other than that, all of the other things that I thought I would miss... I don't. But having that sound... Priceless!
Thank you so much for your purchase!
I just watched the Cheap Audio Man's video on this and he was Very impressed with the on the fly adjustments.
Three great points here:
1. Introduces himself as "big Dan"
2. Simple Dimple.
3. Bluetooth antenna free of charge!
One word “Finally” because this will shake up the receiver market. Excellent job!
Much appreciated!
You are going to be pleasantly surprised when you get your MR1 after coming over from a Denon. Same boat I was in and I couldnt be more impressed.
I am a two channel guy with one eye on future HT expansion, so here are two features I'd like to see in a product like this:
1) XLR out for the LCR in addition to RCA. (Weather or not the cables make a difference, some high end amps only accept XLR these days.)
2) Optical output to run the front two channel system off a discreet DAC.
Congratulations! Looks beautiful. Would love to hear it in operation.
I watched this video yesterday, and I just finished watching the Randy The Cheap Audio Man video. I am really looking forward to getting one of these. I already have the Emotiva speakers. T1+, C1+ and two pairs of the E2+.
Awesome! Thank you!
Glad you guys are building a 11ch AVR at this low of a price point. The price on 11 channel AVR's has gone through the roof, and it's my personal believe that your not experiencing "real" Atmos until you have a 7.1.4 system.
We would agree and got a similar response from a lot of our customers when designing this unit.
Love Emotiva, wish you guys would have released this a few years ago before I purchased my Marantz 8012.
Oh man oh man I've been waiting to upgrade my fusion 8100 for a while now. Can't wait to get my hands on this.
I am a huge fan of emotiva. This is an epic receiver.
Thank you!
Yes, finally an affordable modular design AVR. So long Yamaha! This AVR is incredible.
We agree!
Unbelievable for this price, pure quality
Thank you!
McIntosh rated their new receiver with all channels driven but it is going to cost $8k. Does have Dirac though. You guys make great stuff. Really like the sound quality from my emo gear. Can’t wait for your gen 4 processors.
I would not be surprised if this can take on the McIntosh.
Designed to deliver a truly immersive audio experience, this receiver supports the latest audio formats, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.And as a fellow dealer, We can definitely vouch for the quality of Emotiva products. If you have any other questions about the Emotiva BasX MR1 please feel free to ask!
Really nice product Emotiva! And I agree with the crazy 8k hysteria - if you are a serious gamer you should hook the video game console directly to the TV as he states.
Reduces latency for sure which is very important for gaming.
HDMI 2.0 is a deal breaker for almost all. I'm doing 4k 120hz now on a 5 years old receiver @@EmotivaAudioCorp
This is the receiver i've been hoping Yamaha would build. lots of power, toroidal power, 7.2.4 all in one. and no crap i dont need. i know zero people with 8k so why waste money on it. i dont want/will never use auro 3d. good job Emotiva!
I agree with you. Yamaha hasn't been the same since they last built the Z11.
Our thoughts too.
Great job team Emotiva. Just wish it had Auro-3D capabilities. Love my A4 and A5 BasX amps.
Thank you, I think I will change my old UMC 200( work perfectly) for this baby, very good job
Can't wait for the next receiver trade in program so I can pick up this beast.
Yeah if there was an option to add Dirac to this it would be great but without Dirac it's a no go
@@shaolin95 Yeah, but is Dirac the cure-all?
So true.
Emotiva is the best bang for your buck. No doubt about it.
Thank you for your comment!
@@EmotivaAudioCorp It's just the truth.
I currently have an XPA-TWO & a pair of the XS12 subwoofers. Love 'em all, too.
I'm going to add the XDA-3 to my system next.
Does this receiver pass 120 hz for 4k ? Or does it cap at 60 hz? Sorry, couldn't find the answer. This is a gorgeous receiver.
This is a nice receiver by the looks of it and all that I've been able to read. I also am buying one to push 4ohm speakers. But I wish it had a phono in and am/fm as I like the radio at times.
So cool to see what going on inside
Thank you! We are very proud of how well we build our products and are happy to show that to our customers.
That thing is a tank. A very nice piece of equipment.
We actually just have someone who got their MR1 to compare against their Cinema 40 on our Emotiva Lounge forum!
Send one to Andrew Robinson, I would like to know how it compares to other receivers.
There are far more reliable channels than Andrew Robinson.
Disrespect me if it makes you feel better but just don't be a snake.
This is beautiful. Makes me want to switch from my av7705
Thank you for this. You website saying it is locally shipped within Canada. Which is a good thing. No custom duty fees only taxes.
A question please!
The Filter Capacitors used within.
How many MicroFarads for each and how many are used? If I can tell, it appears to be 4?
Thank you
Awesome!!! I just wish it was Assembled in the USA like the X Series! Not sure how China can still be enough less $ Maybe work with another company like Schiit Audio to get this more affordable products made here in the States…??? Having said all that Dan I love XMC-2!!!
Great presentation and very impressed with the build quality of this unit. However, on a very minor note, shouldn't this product be considered an "Integrated Amplifier"? I always thought a "Receiver" is denoted as such when a radio tuner is built into it.
Excellent. I love my 7 channel Emotiva amp.
Really like your receivers and was so close to pulling the trigger on one, but the lack of a headphone jack was the deal breaker. I know seems like a petty thing to get hung up on, but really need that jack and honestly how much extra could it cost to put that on a receiver?
Wow, great product and introduction/ feature explanation. I'm really surprised by the price...I'll have to look out for this
Thank you!
It’s a beast , he must of said that like 10 times
The only two items I did not hear included was wi-fi capability and Dirac. Other than that, this is on my short list of 3 to buy in the next month.
My front layer speakers are Martin Logan Foundation F2 and a C1, which are 4 ohm speakers. The rest are NHT Superzero which are 8 ohms. Can I connect and mix 4 & 8 ohm speakers to the BasX MR1 receiver?
If i had a do-over, i would have done full 7.2.4 emotiva speakers instead of a different brand. God they make awesome gear.
The audio power for the price point seems great but still no HDMI 2.1 in 2023...
Literally was going to comment on the lack of 2.1. Unfortunately this is useless for me. Frustrating!
Emotiva is for sure a good audio company, but it looks like they forgot the entire point of AVRs is to be current and up to date with video technology... I also will not be getting this model where I would have if it had HDMI 2.1 which I need.
I would literally buy it right now if it had HDMI 2.1...whats the point of having a 120Hz TV if your receiver can't push 4k120?
Yeah. This is a big issue. I want to run one cable to my display. If I have multiple sources that can do 8k, ALL, VRR, etc I would like my receiver/processor handle this.
@@TJPavey Exactly
I'm going to buy one but I wish there was XLR outputs for extra channels
My RMC1L has a static popping noise every time that I switch content😡 I send for service and the problem remains. This problem is there since the first time that I bought it new😡 big mistake I paid $4000.00+.
My at-300 had that but they fixed it
Thanks for doing this. Maybe bring in Dirac to this to seal the deal?
"Cheap Audio Man" got me here
Thank you!
No 8k content…yet. The future proof HDMI board is a nice to have.
Are the internal amplifiers assignable? Have the x3 and would like to use the internal amp for front wide?
I just asked the same question. Did you ever figure it out?
Did you guys do a survey and people said they didnt want hdmi 2.1 or something? WROONGGG. was gonna buy this but not anymore after learning that.
We will have an HDMI 2.1 option later this year.
Love Emotiva!!!!!
Please start selling within Australia again!
This just might be my next AVR! Curious, are there future plans to manufacturer your own DVD BluRay player, similar to your CD player? Sorry, I don’t mean to inquire about something else as you are already unveiling a new awesome product. I was just wondering.
Hope you give the MR1 a go! We do not have any plans to design a physical media player.
Will there be a upgrade for 8k 60?
@cato12 I am sure down the road when 8k becomes more prevalent they will have an upgrade to the board.
Bingo.
Excellent for the price, but I think it needs a dirac live upgrade option, 48 gb HDMI 2.1 with hdcp 2.3, and an auro-3D up mixer. That would be perfection.
Agreed. They should offer paid upgrades to purchase licenses for things you want. I would pay for Auro 3D and Dirac Live.
Xlr stereo inputs would be a nice touch yall sell the cd player with xlr out
That would be more in line with an X Series product as BasX is our entry level line.
Question I have any chance of emo coming out with 16x2/4 switch, plus a legacy solution adding 10-16 a/v to 2xhdmi output with 11x pass through
looking for hdmi and av solutions of greater capacities looking from a gamer/streamer perspective here with something that can live in rack beside or under this,,
have perchance looked in pioneer receivers what would be a weight difference between 1 single toroid vs 11 smaller toroids???
Something kept telling me to hold off on grabbing one of Denons latest receiver. This dropped just in the thick of tax season too. Emotiva, you guys think you know what you're doing, huh'. I'm gonna' need every tax deduction available for this one...
Holy shnikes! This is a bit of a mic drop from Emotiva at this price point.
I hope you put some quality DAC's in this bad boy. Sexiest looking AVR on the market.
Rotel does trimming to on the fly ,but yes excellent Emotiva
I like this. But I only have a 14 1/2 inch deep cabinet.
What is the monitor in the background? It looks like it has different tweeter and midwoofer?
Hi Dan I hear you mention that there will be other recivers coming out . Will they be more powerful and will they have humidity 2.1 ?
Hdmi I meant
Is the Emotiva BasX MR1 going to be sold in the UK?
I have 14 speakers can I run all those with this monster ?
Is the volume knob is made of metal or plastic?
Love this 🙂
