I'm sorry but the take on the double yellow is completely wrong. Norris should have lifted, as it is a safety and not a sporting infringement. Stop defending British drivers. The reason it is punished so much is because ignoring ayellow flags in F3 and F2 is a big problem, and F1 creating a precedent that it is okay to ignore yellow flags is dangerous to say the least. The difference between what max did and George is proportion. Max said "heads up, he didn't lift" and left it at that. George went on and on in public alone saying he panic braked and avoided and maybe damaged his car etc etc and at least from Max retelling he continued dramatizing it in the stewards room. Did that actually happen? We will never know, but based on his public comments, I believe he did probably dramatize the event more than it was because he was doing that in interviews before the stewards verdict. George is absolutely not "getting in his head," though.
Max noticed the sudden drop in the time gap to Norris and suggested that Lando didn't lift. Short and sweet. George spun an elaborate and exaggerated fairy tale to get Max penalized. There's no comparison.
My thoughts too. Max made a single comment and left it for the team/stewards to do their job. George was trying to make a point out of it in basically all interviews I've heard until the penalty was announced.

Completely disagree with Karun. Double Yellows mean LIFT no matter when or where. We saw what happened to Bianchi when drivers try to take advantage of yellows or safety car periods to gain time over other cars
Naomi shouldn't be on the channel. Your average sim racer is more qualified than her! She's there because she's a black woman who "raced" a car once or twice. Not even close to being qualified to comment on F1.
People are quick to kick a man when he's down forgetting he's won 2 races this year along with sainz, Russell, piastri and was 3rd in driver's last year
Lewis will be fine. The man need a car he can trust. That Mercedes is a ridiculous car. Vasseur already stated he is not worried. He knows the man for 20 years. Vasseur can coach him to his former self.
It appears that Karun is the only one who truly understands the situation, but I can say it's British podcast. The portrayal suggests that Lando was nearly faultless, which is puzzling. Max observed Lando accelerating, a move that's clearly prohibited under a yellow flag. It's that straightforward. It wasn't Stroll whom Max allowed to overtake; it was Alonso, and he maintained distance, not wanting to hinder other drivers since he had nothing more to gain from this race than Alonso did + it's a rule amongst drivers to give each other space during a cooldown lap. Why is George being labeled by so many as one of the most disagreeable individuals, yet your commentary suggests he's respectable? George has once again demonstrated unsportsmanlike behavior. And why the lengthy discussion about Lewis? His performance in Qatar was unremarkable; does it warrant a ten-minute analysis of his penultimate race with Mercedes?
It's impressive how they bring up wanting there to be a bit of subjectivity in the ruling. But then when they allow a driver to get away with just a little lift because it's actually not that dangerous that somehow isn't good enough
@@Slipstream_merchant Whilst I don't agree with Karun's take, "British media bias" is spouted everywhere like bias doesn't exist in other countries who cover F1. In some countries it is much more blatant but seemingly perfectly acceptable.
@@opinionated_one8692 mercedes knew the only way George could win the race is if Lewis had a bad qualifying result, Lewis wasn't fighting for pole position that day he was fighting just to keep the car on the track, & on race day Lewis showed he's still one of the best but just ran out of laps but second was good enough to prove a point & I bet Fred had big smile on his face & was happy he made the call to bring Lewis to ferrari.
Facts disagree with you but I dont expect that to change your opinion. Palmer on F1TV talked about the pace of both of them in that race in his post-race Analysis if you want to check it out. In short: George managed until gap went to 5sec, then matched Lewis in pace for 3 laps, after which Lewis' tires just completely fell off (due to pushing so hard before).
I have to point out that if Greg Slater had actually paid attention to the answers that Carlos Sainz provided during his post race interview, he (and the reporting team trackside as well) would have picked up that Carlos explained that he already had the puncture before he crossed the finish line, and thus his puncture was not caused by the debris on track towards the end of the finish straight. I can't believe that no one picked up on that very important point.
He never said before the finish line, he said around the last corner and before the first one he recieved the puncture. It's ambigious, but the fact that he had the puncture before the first turn means the most likely cause is the debris as its between the last and first corner.
17:51 The difference, Matt, is that Max pointed Lando's non-lift out to his team over the radio and left it at that for the stewards to work out. However on quali day, George pointed out the impeding over the radio to his team, as is his right, btw; and then actively sent the point home later on in the driver's briefing room. None of us were in the room, but the way it was described, George was fully lobbying against Max in the briefing so that he would get a penalty. That's where the beef came from, not what was said over the radio at the time of the incidents.
The punishment for double-waved yellow should not be diminished..but what constitutes be prepared to stop, or when/where a double waved yellow is used could use refinement. But when there is a double-waved yellow it is what it is.

Something I never quite understand why it's always Lewis people are talking about when he's struggling. I mean, Alonso hasn't won a race for like 10 years or something and he never gets this kind of criticism.
Stating the obvious here which most F1 fans know, is that Alonso hasn’t had a car anywhere near capable of winning in that time. There’s absolutely no denying that whatsoever unless you want to blatantly lie, like certain Lewis ‘fans’ do. Every normal F1 fan has ultimate respect for Alonso they know he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. The same respect they have for Max, Lewis, Schumacher, Senna etc. The answer as to why Lewis gets so much criticism for poor performances is that everyone is used to him winning and being a good driver for years. He’s one of the biggest names in the sport so obviously he’s going to get more attention. Lando is going through the exact same thing this year purely because of how popular he is. Everyone loved him at the start of the season, saying how great he is… now everyone is trying to find a reason to like him because that’s just how social media works. In reality, he’s had a great season, driven superbly and doesn’t deserve any of the hate he’s getting. You can say similar for Max also. Everyone normal fan knows he’s the best driver on the grid but you still see comments calling him useless and that it’s just the car. Unfortunately this is the ugly side of social media that we can’t remove from the sport.
He has you deluded crylonso fangirl. He bottled it in 2021 when his teammate won and also bottled 2023 with the second fastest aston that was fastest in monaco@@JXLY7
Considering Fred said they're not worried, I don't see why this is a topic of discussion. He clearly is still one of the best in terms of race pace. However he's absolutely rubbish in Quali as these new regs has completely nerfed him. I know age makes people lose Quali speed but James Allison has already alluded that these regs doesn't suit Lewis in 1 lap speed. Hopefully Tyre temps aren't as bad at Ferrari
Driver coach @ LowerLaptime actually went through the telemetry today to highlight where Lewis is struggling and WHY failing to adapt his driving style to the new ground effect cars has affected his pace and is causing him to lose to George. It's super interesting and not something a show like this is ever going to cover. 😏
Lewis will be fine, won 2 races this year and has 5 podiums... This car wasn't upgrade to his liking, especially with him leaving - it was tuned to George's preferences... Lucky for him, Charles and Lewis have similar styles
This tuning to driver preference is getting a bit old. The car is developed by designers and engineers, the drivers drive it, make suggestions to improve, goes back to designers and engineers, rinse and repeat. If a car is faster a particular way, that's the way the team is gonna go. If one driver can deal with it and one can't, thats kind of that. Hamilton has struggled since these ground effect cars came about, the first year excuse was he was doing experimental testing, the second year beat Russell but wasn't setting the track on fire either, third year he's all over the place while Russell has been pretty consistent. The car certainly has a lot to do with performance, but you do the best you can with what you have. You dont complain constantly, calling the car bad when your teammate is doing fine, asking to retire the car, saying you won't be racing the next 3 races etc. He's gonna have a rough year next year and won't be surrounded by the friendly faces and encouragement he's had for over a decade with mercedes.
@ great point^ my only other excuse is (hahaha) i think george cares more about beating lewis, and if lewis doesnt have a career that can fight for a title after everything hes accomplished, beating his teammate doesnt matter to him
Giving the stewards wiggleroom in this case is a stupid thing to do! It's about safety. How would a driver know how serious a double waved yellow is? Would that then be communicated by the team as in "just ignore the double waved yellow"? Double waved yellow should be "reduce speed as soon as possible to pit lane speed". As soon as possible, because quick reductions of speed are dangerous in itself. The stewards can then be the judge if it was reduced quick enough.

Karun is the symbol of British bias favoring Lando. The fact that drivers ahead (not just MAX) saw and reacted to the double waved yellow means they followed a fundamental rule. Lifting for even a quick moment is a big difference (literal and philosophical) than not seeing the double waved yellow AND consequentially stayed flat out. It's clear.
The big question no one seems to be asking is “Why did Lando Norris not see the double yellow flags” when it appears EVERYONE else did…?? 👀😳 2nd question: Why are the English Press silent on this….?🙂😊

I mean the next time they neglect a ‘real’ double yellow flag, serious accidents can happen.
i think he just needs a break 😅 I mean just before the summer break he was banging in the results, its not like he's never had pace this season! The car's inconsistency has baffled him to the point of frustration, Vegas was proof he hasn't simply "lost his pace", it wasn't a lack of pace which caused him to qualify p10, it was one lockup and then just a very unlucky snap, he had pace all weekend. His mind was clearly not in the right place in Qatar. Give him a few months break + a brand new car, + a brand new environment ,and we should see a revitalised lewis. Maybe ferrari can give him the strong rear stability he needs for his driving style to work consistently, which would give him confidence, and help him find his quali pace. His driving style is probably much closer to Leclerc's than it is to George, i mean look at the silverstone lap comparison, the two laps are miles different.
Sorry but good car or not, for Lewis to sound so defeated is not good news for Ferrari. Once a man of that caliber has doubts in himself, its already too late.
Difference between Max and George is that George is arguing Max did something wrong when he didn’t while Max pointed out a breaking of the rules… how is that a question?
George under Max’ skin?? Haha. Well… he certainly paid the price for that. Max said pre race that he was extra motivated to get George at turn one. Max is way to strong mentally to be screwed by GR.
I love how unbiased Naomi's comments were despite the fact that she's British. Truth be told, George's incident was premeditated. He did it on purpose. That's cheap
Doubly yellow = slow dawn and prepare to stop. The driver doesn't know why there was a double yellow. This is not F1. This is all motor racing, and Lando knew the strict rule. 10 second stop and go is warranted when a driver ignores the double yellow!
I put on this podcast and didn't even pay attention to the video. I am nearly at the end and realized it's Naomi and not the ex-Aston Martin female who was alongside Karun Chandok. Naomi sounded so level headed throughout the episode. Props to her, she has won a new fan today.

So we agree that the double yellow was difficult to spot and act upon, and yet Max lifted and Lando not, and cars following had more / better warning. Max got for a similar situation, a difficult to spot double yellow, (in qualifying) in the past a 5 place grid penalty, according to the rules
Max saw the double yellows because he didn't have a green panel flashing after. Norris had the green flashing panel. You are always looking far ahead. So obviously, the green flashing panel caught his attention first, causing him to miss the yellow flags
@sghitza1 Not only did Max have the green light flashing, he didn't have the double yellow lights unlike Lando who was far back enough to catch them. The pitwall can control a lot of what happens with their team car and such actions, can dictate the outcome of that car.
Penalty is a penalty to warn every driver that there is danger around the circuit, and it shouldn't be amended. Its for the safety for everyone its either a race marshall, driver spectator etc....FIA just need consistency.
It's crazy to me because the concession for safety that the FIA is making because it wasn't that dangerous is the fact the drivers only have to lift a little bit to acknowledge it. If there was more things they would have to slow down more. It's crazy to me how far people are going to defend something that could the endanger the lives of Marshalls because that's what double waved yellows are meant to protect
Max was told by GP that Lando is on his DRS to which Max responded to check if Lando lifted because he was around 2 sec gap. So ofcourse Max would ask to check.
I think the debris on the track issue could be resolved by, like a pit lane limiter each driver that passes the double yellow zone, has to press the limiter ,and fia will know if they break its speed, and also each car has to pass the double yellow and press the limiter, regardless of weather the debris is clear..this will ensure theres no advantage to certain cars in different areas of the track, which with the vsc can sometimes be unfair..i think this is fair ?

You actually think that ??😂😂
The difference between what max did and George is proportion.
It's not the penalty, its the way in which Princess GR was trying to get it.
@@mrthewhite2620 Well, Max like all great athletes like taking note to motivate himseld, when you saw is car aiming at georges on the grid was there any doubth he was taking the lead.
Max's behavior in George's behavior is so incredibly different. Max asked for a rule that has been clearly applied across several years to still be applied. George, however argued for a penalty that has never existed before to be invented to be given to Max

GET IN THERE LEWIS!!
64 km/h Max slowed down. So not 13 km/h as Karun indicates.
Karum shouldn't be a f1 punit
British bias, not surprised tbh
Yeah he gained like 7 tenths in that sector alone.

He was driver of the day 2 RACES AGO. He'd have shafted George if he had have started even 5th on the grid. This is SOMETHING made from NOTHING.
This is why they work against Lewis to have him start from 10th, hoping he don't catch Russell.
@@opinionated_one8692 This. Well said
@@opinionated_one8692 mercedes knew the only way George could win the race is if Lewis had a bad qualifying result, Lewis wasn't fighting for pole position that day he was fighting just to keep the car on the track, & on race day Lewis showed he's still one of the best but just ran out of laps but second was good enough to prove a point & I bet Fred had big smile on his face & was happy he made the call to bring Lewis to ferrari.
Does that mean it wasn’t the cause? Debris can also weaken a tyre. It can cause cuts and lacerations that don’t appear fatal until later.
He never said before the finish line, he said around the last corner and before the first one he recieved the puncture. It's ambigious, but the fact that he had the puncture before the first turn means the most likely cause is the debris as its between the last and first corner.
During the race Bernie mentioned that all punctures were front left, which is the tyre with the most wear from the curbs.

Speed under double yellow: Max 259 kmph - Lando 323 kmph. End of discussion (no matter what nationality someone has).
Something I never quite understand why it's always Lewis people are talking about when he's struggling. I mean, Alonso hasn't won a race for like 10 years or something and he never gets this kind of criticism.
Because he is him
Because if you're Black you have to be perfect to be good enough.

I would discuss the unprofessional and dangerous behavior of Lando and his engineer (they were chatting over the board radio and not focused on what happened on the track source: Peter windsor) and how they ruined a potential interesting fight.
