My two favorite Gold coins....Buffalo and Britannia. 4 nines all the way! Buffalo for all the reasons you state. Britannia for the enhanced security, beauty and that same .9999 luster. I give up a little in that it is a "foreign" coin. But I am buying them for roughly $40 less and they are awesome.. I was in my local coin shop yesterday and asked him what he had for 1 oz Gold. He said "Buffalos and Eagles". Turns out he was selling them for the same price. ??? So I asked if I could give him 20 Eagles for 20 Buffalo. He went to the boss man and came back shaking his head. Not possible. lol I figured as much! Had to try though.
Nice gold stack! 👍 In my experience, coin dealers/shops around me will always buy gold, albeit at a lower price for non-American gold coins. Never had any issues selling gold (unlike silver where some dealers are a bit more picky on what they buy, even at below spot).
I don't have any of these yet, but just looking at the images I think the Canadian Maples are much more attractive than Buffaloes & Eagles. The latter seem to be in urgent need of some redesign, but that's just my opinion. I have seen an Australian Kangaroo in hand, that is indeed impressive! Plus they change their design every year. Offcourse, since I live in the US holding more American gold coins than Canadian would make sense.
Gold goes up when uncertainty goes up but not immediately. The reason is that people with stock portfolios who trade on margin often times have to liquidate their gold when margin calls occur which delates the price the couple days after any crash.
Great question. As long as the coin is noted as BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) there will be no physical difference in gold coins from the U.S. Mint. Everything including the design is the same. The reason 2020 coins have the additional premium is that it has emotional value to people stacking/collecting gold because of the current world events. Normally, I buy the newest coin I can find without paying an extra premium to do so. I have grabbed a few 2020 coins (and paid extra), though, because they represent something I'll remember for a long time.
Maple Leaf is definitely my preferred one. Then American Eagle and Krugerrand, which I wondered how was it that you didn't mention it here. By the way, I'm happening to see your (already) old videos like this one, and I noticed a big change in respect to your current videos (2023, 2024), which contents I find to be much more complex, I would say even cryptographic, it's curious how remarkable was that change (just my personal opinion). In any case, thanks for your videos! Will continue to scroll through your past videos. I love at most the ones where you focus on specific coins. Cheers!
@Random Stranger On The Internet owners of eagles are exempt from paying taxes when they liquidate. Sort of, they are kinda of pre-taxed up front with the premiums. Now bars on the other hand are reportable.
Your assessment is really helpful. It's hard not to be somewhat of a collector when spending this much money on stacking. Seems to me selling to shops is not ideal.
I love Eagles, St Gaudens knew what he was doing. The face is, IMO, the best coin design throughout history. The pre-33 $20 doubles are the best overall, aesthetically. I also love the buffalos.
The Maples have had my heart for decades. They are beautiful. I have a American Eagle and it is pretty but i am thinking of trading it for that 24k PURE BUTTER Buffalo! 😂 I love the Purity of 9999 Gold!
Pretty interesting watching back on this. 4 years on and my view (as a relative newbie) is gold is gold and attitudes have changed. What's your thoughts?
Buffalos are bullion, so years make no difference. The best place to buy them, in my opinion, is a local coin shop. You can find them online at sites like SDBullion.com as well. Cheers.
Haven't been able to make my way up to an ounce coin yet, but I agree the buffalo is my favorite. I think it's the 24k, but I found a Buffalo nickel in some change when I was young and still have it. It's a cool design.
Eli Geraty I use Air-Tite capsules for 32mm coins. I have the black foam rings to add some protection, but the direct fit (H32) look nicer. I get mine from the LCS or Amazon.
Great video - I’m considering getting into gold coins and the Buffalo tugged at me the most. Also in the US so I guess that makes sense. I’m guessing you keep others like the maple in very low numbers (maybe 1?) just for its beauty then? I have the same desire haha, gold coins are just cool!
Thanks for the info, I'm relatively new to stacking but I was collecting both 1/4 eagles as well as 20 francs but didn't realize that the 20 francs aren't as liquid to dealers in the event I would ever have to sell any gold
Card Tech710 night and day difference in liquidity for me (through local coin shops). Your mileage may vary, though. It might be worth a call to a local dealer or two.
I am French and the 20 Francs gold coin, which comes in 5 different designs, is the most bought and sold gold coin here. It really depends on where you live! I have quite a few of them and also silver coins. Because of the Covid epidemic and a possible bank run (who knows?), I just invested a part of my savings in bullion coins: American Eagle, American Buffalo, Australian Nugget and Maple Leaf. They all look so beautiful! I'm excited and can't wait to receive them!
@Card Tech710 Thank you, I can't tell for now as I've never seen an AE. But I think the 20 Francs coins don't look like real gold because of their copper content and I regret they aren't made of 24K pure gold. None of our French coins are. Also they look so old... which they are!

What’s the advantage of pre 1933 gold US coins over current US gold coins? Do they track every current coin? You can’t buy them privately without it being reported? In any amount? I really want gold Buffalo coins but not if they have to be reported. And what about foreign gold coins?? Like the maple leaf? I really want the maple leaf too. Can anyone help??
94th sub. Good content. I’ve only bought 1/10oz AGE’s and a few .23. Sovereigns. Only because they were on sale. Other than that, I’ve never had a model to go buy.
@@Goldsavergamer APMEX and local coin shops for me. I prefer to buy locally, but I'm super picky on 1oz coin condition, and it's always hard to find 1/4oz coins at the LCS.
Your story about the roosters is fascinating. Those "odd" coins are attractive because of the low premiums, but I have always figured that they would be difficult to sell private party due to the non-fractional gold content that isn't even listed on the coin. I never imagined that coin dealers would not want them, but it makes perfect sense now that you explain it.
I just bought a buffalo yesterday. I researched and came to the 'objective ' conclusion that it is the most beautiful and symbolically relevant gold coin out there. I don't want o have the face of the God damned Queen on my gold coins lol.
@@2is1gold Yes indeed, the art itself is beautiful, and I very much like the coin's rugged look. There is something in it that truly embodies the american spirit of liberty.
I've watched a fair number of your your videos and appreciate your viewpoints. One thing I have yet to hear you speak on, is how gold acts as a savings account and buffers on exchange rates. Living, north of the boarder I rest well knowing that I can choose what currency i recoup to. If I missed your take, please drop me the link.
With the new security features for 2021 coin do you believ it will make that coin more desirable from dealers or you think it’s still okay to get the 2020 I’m new to the scene and been listening to a lot of stuff before I buy but don’t wanna wait in case with what’s been going on soled wide
It depends on one thing apart from cost and that is the tax treatment of your stack. I.e. tax on purchase and tax on disposal. So if you take US gold we in the U.K. would be liable to be taxed on the profit made outside of your tax allowance. You would be taxed on death for inheritance purposes outside of the allowance. However you have NO tax liability on and British gold coin made from gold as they are classed as currency. So no VAT no CAPITAL GAINS TAX and NO INHERITANCE TAX. saying that you could have other gold and you could use your allowance to elevate your liability..
Sherab Namdhak very much so. Each country has their own tax implications, and each region has their own preferences. I wouldn’t recommend the Eagle in most places outside of the U.S.. Thanks!
Hi. I agree with you on the Maple. A gold coin should be shiny. A question though, does it really matter the premium or spot price? If you bought a less popular coin, it would also cost less. If you pay a premium, you should get the premium back when you sell it.
My primary local coin shop will pay a premium back for Eagles (silver or gold) but nothing else. They cost the most, but if you bought a coin and immediately sold it back, the Gold Eagle is the one that will ‘depreciate’ the least.
“It depends,” oh my, if I had a nickel every time I’ve told someone that same answer but in the legal realm. I think it depends on the market. When the market is hot, gold, all gold, seems to fly in and out of the LCS. That said, I still see the LCS offer 97% of spot for maples and 98% of spot on eagles, etc., while other coins such as roosters are getting less. I still buy it all, probably because I haven’t put as much thought into it as you have, because I don’t really have a true exit strategy; rather, I plan to will them to family and let them deal with it! Lol.
Ha. I like the idea of passing down the seller issues! "Cursed gold. Here you go!" I can get 95%-97% for pristine Maples, but I'll get 99%-100% for Eagles. 90% for Roosters if they'll take them and a bit more for Sovereigns. The bigger issue for me is whether or not they would take them at all in a true emergency. I had a real estate opportunity come up when I wasn't ready and wanted to sell some gold to take the sting off of it. I wasn't able to sell more than a few ounces of Roosters locally, and I got a terrible price for them. The same dealers would have taken 100 Eagles without blinking. I'm planning to hand down all my gold too, but I want to be able to put it to work if something terrible (or a great opportunity) comes up. That's why I want liquid gold first, cursed gold second! :) Thanks for watching! I loved your last video.
2 is 1 well thanks I appreciate that. You really do have me thinking, more than I have thought from any other video I have watched, that getting rid of my foreign gold and replacing it with US gold might be a good idea. Just gotta figure out how to get the best price for my foreign stuff now...
Good question. I'm planning a video on this soon. I use Air-Tites. It's pretty common to find them at a local coin shop, but I've picked up a bunch from both Amazon and APMEX. APMEX will tell you the exact size you need on the product's detail page - 1oz Gold Eagles and Buffalos are 32mm. You can get direct fit capsules or larger capsules with black rings. If you search Amazon, you'll find both the individual capsules and the storage container tubes (with the red lid). I personally use the Air-Tites with the black rings (because the outer diameter of the plastic will then line up with various coin diameters, from Silver Eagles to Canadian Maples), but the direct fit let you see more of the coins. Thanks!
Good morning from Texas. The best gold… Here’s a question; gold is gold. Yet, so gathering gold for savings, does the “year” matter? As I know there’s “Mintage” count but gold is gold when savings are the priority. Just get what you get? Thoughts… have a blessed day. PS: do you take email questions off line?
The question is: why don't you sell your coins to some large gold trading entities, but to your local pawn shops? The premium of the gold coin is the extra price on top of the price of gold for the same weight and purity, which is also known as spot price. They might take its premium off for the damage. but should not give you less the spot price.
Both are great American gold coins...I just haven't been able to justify the extra premium for the Gold Buffalo. I am not in love with the design of it though either. I would love to see this redesigned into a more modern designed 24K Gold coin.
Silver Ripples I’d like to see some new designs coming out of the U.S. Mint too. (And I'm not sure the Eagle redesign next year will be enough.) The Buffalos have definitely grown on me, though.
I agree with the American Buffalo. I am buying one this week. But tech on gold coins is good for authentication as the Canadian Mint and Perth Mint do. But does that mean you bullion is trackable, confiscatable? I always saw precious metals as a solid escape from the tech madness we live in.
Gil Balfas the privy marks on Canadian Maple Leaf coins are used for authentication. The tech could hypothetically be used to track to whom a coin is initially sold, but no more so than an initial sale of a coin without the mark at this point. Down the road many years, it could change. We’re a long way from that concern - the American Eagle coins will roll out the tech for the first time in 2021. (The authentication, not necessarily any possible tracking.) I don’t see coin registration coming any time soon, and I doubt many people would volunteer the info even if it was available. Thanks!
Thank you soo much for sharing your experiences. I really appreciate you for doing this. I'm just going to start investing in gold, and this really helps. ;-)
I stack Canadian Maple Leafs. This is the first time I've heard of a dealer concerned about coin condition. In my experience, it's always been treated as bullion with zero numismatic value. BTW, the CDN mint calls their ID etching "DNA".
They're definitely treated as bullion, but the condition of the coins affected how much they'd pay for each of the three CMLs I sold. Cheers. (P.s., newer version of this video here: th-cam.com/video/QFMhb414nvo/w-d-xo.html)

Gold goes up when uncertainty goes up but not immediately. The reason is that people with stock portfolios who trade on margin often times have to liquidate their gold when margin calls occur which delates the price the couple days after any crash.
What is the difference or does the year matter a lot? I have noticed some coins are slightly cheaper because the year for example is 2012?
Great question. As long as the coin is noted as BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) there will be no physical difference in gold coins from the U.S. Mint. Everything including the design is the same. The reason 2020 coins have the additional premium is that it has emotional value to people stacking/collecting gold because of the current world events. Normally, I buy the newest coin I can find without paying an extra premium to do so. I have grabbed a few 2020 coins (and paid extra), though, because they represent something I'll remember for a long time.
I love the roo's! Those Australian coins have 4 9's and look like fine art!
Cheers!
I only buy 1oz coins. When I am no longer working I will trade in 1oz for cash wherever I am living at. I like the AE cause it is more durable.
ALWAYS PAY YOUR TAXES. Wink.
@Random Stranger On The Internet owners of eagles are exempt from paying taxes when they liquidate. Sort of, they are kinda of pre-taxed up front with the premiums. Now bars on the other hand are reportable.
Yipsil Almond not true in the United States. Capital gains tax DOES apply to Eagles.
2 is 1 , true but most of us are not gaining anything factoring
2 is 1 , inflation
I will go with the Buffalo head for my 1 oz and Maples for my 1/4 oz. Thanks for the great perspectives!
Your assessment is really helpful. It's hard not to be somewhat of a collector when spending this much money on stacking. Seems to me selling to shops is not ideal.
BIBLICAL POLITICS not ideal for maximum value maybe, but it sure makes selling easy!
I love Eagles, St Gaudens knew what he was doing. The face is, IMO, the best coin design throughout history. The pre-33 $20 doubles are the best overall, aesthetically.
I also love the buffalos.
I’ll continue to stack American gold Buffalos, they’re amazing and I love that they’re 24k!
I really enjoy your perspective on gold! Excellent video brother and very soothing to watch.
Silver Britches hey, thanks! These are Sunday morning videos, and it probably shows. :)

Love both the buffalo and AGE. Havent sold anything so I'm not sure which would be more liquid locally. Awesome video 👍
Thanks! And, I think they’re equally liquid at a U.S. LCS. Probably varies a fair amount anywhere else.
I agree. Much better looking than the gold eagle.
Thanks any specific years on the gold buffalo?
Where is the best place to purchase these?

My LCS always goes at least $50 over spot for 1 oz. gold coins.
@@laurencerivet7521 the 20 Francs (different designs) are very beautiful coins. Much more then the 1/4 oz Eagles
@Card Tech710 Thank you, I can't tell for now as I've never seen an AE. But I think the 20 Francs coins don't look like real gold because of their copper content and I regret they aren't made of 24K pure gold. None of our French coins are. Also they look so old... which they are!
@@laurencerivet7521 well as both a stacker as well as a coin collector. the 20 Francs are absolutely beautiful coins. Now that's art!

I have enough money for 1 oz gold right now, help me choosing which one to get first! maple leaf? Buffalo? regular 1 oz bar ? I dont want american eagle since i dont like the coulour of copper in it.
If you’re in the United States, I’d say the Buffalo. No question. You’ll be happy with either, though. Cheers!
I appreciate your advice and will implement same.
Hi. What do you think to stack pre 1913 russian gold roubles? Or its more numizmatics and collectable. Cuz theyr premium so high! Thanks

1 oz American gold eagle
Your story about the roosters is fascinating. Those "odd" coins are attractive because of the low premiums, but I have always figured that they would be difficult to sell private party due to the non-fractional gold content that isn't even listed on the coin. I never imagined that coin dealers would not want them, but it makes perfect sense now that you explain it.
I think it must depend on the nature of the dealer. If they are selling Sovereigns and "Napoleons" then they will buy them also.
Awesome informational video. Thanks
Thanks!
I just bought a buffalo yesterday. I researched and came to the 'objective ' conclusion that it is the most beautiful and symbolically relevant gold coin out there. I don't want o have the face of the God damned Queen on my gold coins lol.

Where do you find the black ring coin holders for a Mapleleaf 1 ounce
I've watched a fair number of your your videos and appreciate your viewpoints. One thing I have yet to hear you speak on, is how gold acts as a savings account and buffers on exchange rates. Living, north of the boarder I rest well knowing that I can choose what currency i recoup to. If I missed your take, please drop me the link.
I talk about gold as a savings account a lot, but I haven't gone into the exchange rate buffer. That's a good point. Thanks!
With the new security features for 2021 coin do you believ it will make that coin more desirable from dealers or you think it’s still okay to get the 2020 I’m new to the scene and been listening to a lot of stuff before I buy but don’t wanna wait in case with what’s been going on soled wide
I doubt dealers will care. The 2021 coins will be more popular with peers, though. I wouldn’t expect it to affect the price you’d get from an LCS.
Are government minted gold bars like RCM, recognized with more legitimacy than Generic gold rounds of the same weight?
They’d be more recognizable than a gold round (but not a coin).

where do you get your 1 oz cases
I would think that the major plus of the American Eagle is its harder to scratch or dent
That and how well known it is.
If you get a buffalo pay the extra 100$ and buy a slabbed ms70
@@billlee1724 not me. I hate slabs!
Here you go!"
I can get 95%-97% for pristine Maples, but I'll get 99%-100% for Eagles.
Thanks for watching!
What capsule do you use?
I use Air-Tite. The 1oz Gold Eagles and Buffalos take 32mm capsules.
@@2is1gold Nice, thank you.
@@2is1gold So sad, it doesn't avaliable in my country.
Where did you get the cases from?
Do you have to buy different sizes for the different size coins?
Thanks!
An ounce is an ounce. I like the lower premium offerings from government mints, such as the Maple Leaf.
Gold Buffalo for sure!! 👍🏽😀❤️
What is a app that keeps track of the gold and silver worth?
what was your experience with selling sovereigns?
You it was a little better than selling the Rosters, but still considerably less than spot.
@@2is1gold got it thanks
Thanks!
Bought 2x American Buffalo reverse proof, and love them.
