That machine had a very interesting sounding back up alarm. What makes it so different is that the pitch is lower than you would hear normally on a machine of this type.
I’ve watched videos of a number of these hydraulic shovel fronts in various sizes, and the cable machines seem to be faster and more powerful. What is your take on this, being deeply imbedded in the industry? Thanks for the videos and take care.
@@PAmining I’ve wondered that for yes lol. Been stoppin in a little store in hazard ky on our way to work that has some killer strip mine photos of the 995, ok340, lots of 11s..upright and turned over..and the gem is the 8050 ran by starfire coal horizon ent at that time...whoever took them done it right like yourself..lotta memories workin long nasty hrs on weekends
It was a poor shot in sandstone. And yes, that is rebar. This job is actually on the site of an old underground mine facility (you can see the old coal breaker in the background from the 1940s off to the right) They run into lot's of old concrete foundations and structures here. Thanks!
Demag is , for me, the best Deutch excavator, strong, no so much sophisticated as Liebherr and O & K - Cat.Is the same concept from years, and Komtasu, a part the engine, has modified nothing of the genuins Demang project and machine conceptGood
Another awesome (and appreciated!) video, Justin- many thanks. Honest question from an non-mining professional who enjoys your vids- are the cycle times a bit slow on this machine, or are they about right because of the size of the bucket? Many thanks- keep 'em coming!
Sure. Everything on this machine is still mostly original and it has almost 40,000 hours I think. With no major rebuild and due to its age, there's likely to be a lot of fluid bypassing. Of course, a rebuild done right is a few million dollars. Sometimes it's cheaper to repair as things break as long as the machine is still moving material. The other factor at play here is that he's digging in a poor shot which also slows the machine down. In well shot material, an H185S can cycle a 100 ton truck in about 1:30-1:45 seconds. The third factor here is truck size. The H185S was designed to load up to 150 ton trucks, however the load time drops due to the number of passes required.
If the state you live in has coal companies you gotta go take your surface mining card and then you have to apply with the coal companies, and when you get hired they will train you up on the equipment

i would love to see more of this old girl i love to see older bits of kit like this working they are just as capable as the new kit
love this old iron. simple to fix not all the crap electronics
These are babies in the mining industry but getting it done!!
Cheers from the coal mines of Wyoming!
Very Cool thank you the track pads look small on that bad ass machine
I'd like to try one of these side hill gougers sometime.

Its the Doppler effect, it is moving away from you so fast that it changes the sound.
Man that bucket is huge
Justin, your videos are always informative and well made, but seriously guy, I want to see YOU running the equipment!
Haha, no you don't! I would not make it look as good as the operators here. Thanks
Are they loading out building rubble, I see rebar mixed up with the rock
Is the material going to be used for anything? If not, what is the exact location of the material dumped?
Awesome footage awesome. Keep up the good work. I wonder how many tons were loaded.
Where is this quarry located at

Really enjoy your videos thank you
Nice footage
Beautiful video all the best
Very awesome machines! Thanks for the video.
Ohhh you beautiful beast !!!
good operator great vedeo mate
Thanks; glad you liked it!
Great big machine. The H185 is really a powerhorse. How old is that film?
Belo vídeo
I noticed the tracks on this beast has no growlers. Are they worn out or doesn’t need them?
They are worn down
These machines came out Long after I quit construction work. And, I Mean Long after =)
Boffus Laddie! HI Danny! 80 and 180D's and such or maybe a 95. Nothing like a cable rig against a hydraulic. We were born too early.
Was that roof bolts from old works hung in the teeth?..
That was actually rebar from old mine foundations!

Dosent Cat make something like this ? Enjoyed🚜👍
Is it a piece of rebar stuck between the teeth?
Yes it is
Tough digging. Looked like shale. Good operator. Was that a piece of rebar hooked on that tooth? Just axing. Good video, Pal! A-PLUS!

Nice one!
hey whats all the rebar?
Thats blast wire
just rebar.

I would agree. They were a very simple designed and well engineered machine.
Demag, mounts only Rexroth components, with Cummins and now Komatsu engines.
The best hyd components with a strong structure.
The best for mining
The engines are still built by Cummins, just marketed as a Komatsu engine.
Noisy old bugger , but still loading well

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Watching that old girl, it seemed kind of slow to load for sure.
To me it doesn't look like the shot isn't shot very well making it hard to dig

Seems like the shovel is a bit small for the truck.
The H185S was rated to load up to 150 ton trucks, however 100 ton was more optimum for 4 pass loading
Next see if you could ride a bucket full into the bed...lol..just slip right out..haha..you get the best shots!
Haha, that would be a ride. Thanks!
boa tarde amigo tem vaga pra mim ? manda convite sou operador de dessas maquinas

I would like to get a job operating machine like this how does somebody go about doing that
If the state you live in has coal companies you gotta go take your surface mining card and then you have to apply with the coal companies, and when you get hired they will train you up on the equipment
Coal Miner I have to look into it I’m in New Jersey but I don’t think there is any coal mining going on over here but I look into it
10-4 if there ain't no coal companies you can check with big rock quarries if there is any in New Jersey
That Demag is kind of like watching paint dry, friggin slow
no paint drying is slower.
Are you in a hurry jim?
ok
very slow and under powered at the side of a rh120 of the same time
So slow
This man need retraining
Really why?
Thank goodness there is always someone who knows everything making this comment on every mining video. Sheesh
This is one weak machine

its stronger than you.
How would you know David?
