Diamonds are just overpriced tat compared to that. I was given a bag of semi precious stones when I was 6 years old from an old lady a few doors away who picked them up from a beach in Rhodesia. If I can remember there was a tiger eye and amethyst which were exquisite and a few others. Now gone forever as I do not remember what happened to them.
Opals fascinate me and I will have to buy one one day.
Also I remember finding a small brown stone on the ground at my families working mans club they went to. It had a glitter on it and I just wish I still had it as it was a one in a billion or more. It definitely was natural but that just got lost as I was growing up too.

And yours is a 60 year opal find. I'm so very happy for you and your whole family and your father's friend. It's truly amazing and you should write a book of your journey through not only your life but your families history. Bless you cheers 🥂 your a bloody legend ❤️✌️😃💓. From Patrick McGovern in USA. A opal cutter who not only watches you. But my opal experience is by hand. Using some of your father's lessons. From your videos. I use no cabbing wheels, And I'm honored that you have not only shared your story of learning from him. But many others have too including myself. And even though it wasn't a black opal. I struck my first 9 CT gem. And it's a beautiful gem. I probably wouldn't haven't had the skill without you sharing your father's hand carvings skills. Thank you 😊✌️ happy 2022. Bye 4 now

I love all of your stories but this one is very special. The irony in the hindsight is jaw dropping as is the opal itself. Thank you very much for sharing, it just adds to how special of a place lightening ridge really is.

That is a stunning stone. Probably the most beautiful black Opal I’ve ever seen. All the colours you’d want in such intensity. Great story.
