- An attendance of 25,142 were present to see an important First Division encounter between Birmingham City, managed by Freddie Goodwin, and Bill McGarry's Wolves team. Wolves had lost three and drawn three of their opening six matches to the 1975-76 season before the arrival of Birmingham to Molineux on 13th September 1975. Included in the Blues side were former Wolves players Peter Withe and Bob Hatton while future England international Trevor Francis would similarly test a veteran Wolves defence.
McGarry's Wolves were largely an experienced group of players and it was a surprise to many at the club that the season was to prove one of struggle. Ultimately, the threat of relegation for both Wolves and Blues was decided on Tuesday 4th May 1976 and the final match of the 1975-76 season. In a dramatic evening, Wolves required a win at home against Liverpool (who needed a win themselves to pip Queens Park Rangers to the title) and for Sheffield United to defeat Birmingham at Bramall Lane for Wolves to avoid relegation and condemn Birmingham to relegation. In front of almost 50,000 at Molineux, Wolves were just 13 minutes away from defeating Liverpool before Bob Paisley's side mounted a thrilling comeback. However, Birmingham secured a point at Sheffield to consign Wolves to relegation.

Only came a cross this in 2023 how have i not seen this before love me babies waw
I'm extremely excited about Wolves moving up to the Premiership this year. They have made some excellent signings this off-season and have an opportunity to make an impact straight away. GO WOLVES!
That foul was outside the box
@crunch wobbly wanderers it was outside !
Yep, it was. That just makes it better.
proper football and when the crowds stood together without all the aggro
In 1975? 😂
Finding it a bit hard to get my head around the published attendance on this clip of 25,142. Back in those days Molineux could still hold nearly 50,000 - as evidenced by the final game of the season against Liverpool which had 49,000. I know there aren't many wide angle shots of further up the terraces, but it hardly looks half full from what you can see!
Attendance records from this era were made up nonsense, basically the more clubs declared, the more VAT they paid, no other records were kept. St.Andrews would often be full, and could take 60k, but attendances were never recorded much above 40k
@@stevenmcguinness4751 It was exactly the same at Wolves. Plus there were those who were let in under the turnstiles that weren't even recorded as being there in the first place.
@@stevenmcguinness4751 1970s clubs understated crowds for VAT purpose..2019 crowds overstate crowds to please sponsors!
The final Liverpool game is unofficially 65,000,
They were on the roof, on the floodlights entrance barriers smashed,
No one could raise their arms, it was amazing a
Tragedy did not occur.
@@caractacusbrittania7442 I’m sure my Dad used to talk about that game, said his feet never touched the ground when exiting the stadium as just swept along in the crowds!
SUPER WOLVES , THOSE WERE THE DAYS !
They're back!!
@@natural_law may have gone again !
We got Star soccer back in those days , wonderful Hugh Johns commentary and always midlands teams featured . Football was great back then as far as I am concerned , these days all you have is Naymar rolling around like a spoilt brat - laughable.
I know it is quite off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released series online?
@Nicolas Abraham I would suggest Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Jackson Hamza Yup, I've been watching on FlixZone for since april myself :D
@Jackson Hamza Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !!
@Nicolas Abraham No problem xD
Good play of Wolves. Only a question, is Trevor Francis of Birmingham the same Francis of Nottingham later?. Salutes from Barcelona.
Yes trev francis is was and always will be a twirly tree LEGEND! coyr.
I was there. Wolves aye we 😎👍
Great Match!!!
Willie Carr, of Coventry free kick fame, but he was much more than that. The penalty should have been retaken, since there were Birmingham players in the box.
Very underrated player
@@WELLBRAN Not by Wolves fans!
Way more than 25,000 in attendance here !
People used to try get two people into 1 turnstile and give the money taker a fiver instead of £3 and pocket the £2, thats why !
Pretty sure the south bank alone could hold 30000 in those days
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 Yep, the South Bank did hold 30,000
willie Carr was a great player how much would he be worth today?
£100 mil if I today's wankers are anything to go by
+Giambattista Vico lolol!...very very true! a very innovative player..thinking man's player always doing something different in a game...another player like that was Charlie cooke Chelsea
WELLBRAN Charlie Cooke -yes. So how many banks would we have to break to buy Frank Worthington?
+Giambattista Vico Worthington great player or Duncan McKenzie ?
Duncan 'socks down' McKenzie - both players were mavericks. As a manager you just put them on the pitch and told them to enjoy themselves, and then wait and see what happens.
That wolves goal no pressing defenders at least 6feet away dead funny
Blues
My mom was pregnant of me..
