I watched him from when he was in Chicago - onward. Was just a little kid & would turn on the TV in am before going to school, Drexel Elementary in Cicero, IL. 1950-55.
This is from one of Fred's final appearances on "CHESTERFIELD SOUND-OFF TIME", a brief 1951 series on NBC's Sunday night schedule at 7pm(et) [the sponsor decided to sustain Jack Webb's TV version of "DRAGNET" the following month]. Because of his high blood pressure (and bum ticker), Fred couldn't attempt any "strenuous" TV series {he had to bow out of "TWO FOR THE MONEY" after an unaired pilot; Herb Shriner became the host}. Finally, he settled in the "fourth chair" on "WHAT'S MY LINE?"...
