He was the greatest of all time. Ronaldinho was with Messi in the same team, but Messi was like 19 years old or something like that. Messi was just starting his career back then. So Ronaldinho wear the no. 10 shirt and Messi was often a substitute in that team back in 2004-2006. That was Ronaldinho's prime. The thing is Ronaldinho liked to party a lot, so he didn't maintain that high level for too long. But in his prime, he was greater than Messi and Cr. Ronaldo.

when this guy hit the world stage, CR7 and Messi were barely out of kindergarten to coin an american term, this guy was the man who lit up the 'new era' of football with the skills and techniques that influenced many even today, if you go back and watch some of the Euro 2020 games, you will see when teams get a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, behind the wall there's a player laying down, it is because of Ronaldinho that they do this since he coined the technique to hit the ball under the wall instead of going over/around, and so many things that happen in the game today are attributed to him.

Ronaldinho flows like water. Water flows like the river it is in. Water always finds a way. Cristiano is like a machine his moves were programmed in and chooses the best to use in a situation. Unlike water you can stop a machine. However a machine does what it's programmed to do the same every time. To me though a bit exaggerated sums up what these two players are like.

I've got a few suggestions for players you could watch but they're not modern players so may not be of interest to you and for some of them there may not be a lot of footage but they are some of the best so there should be enough.
    1. Ronaldo (but not Christiano, I'm talking about the original Ronaldo, the real Ronaldo, R9 the Brazilian Ronaldo)
    2. Diego Maradona (he may have broken English hearts with his hand of God goal but he's still one of the greatest players of all time. He might've been flawed in many ways but was still a genius)
    3. Paul Gasgoine (probably one of the best players we produced in England. He was very talented but sadly his career was ruined by injury and eventually addiction mainly to alcohol. That aside he was a great player and is a very funny guy. I'd reccomend not only having a look at his ability on the pitch but listening to a few stories about some of his antics away from the pitch too, definitely a few good ones I've heard from his ex Rangers team mate Ally Mcoist)
    4. George Best (Another great sadly addiction was a big part of his life like Gazza but he was incredible, so much so that the airport in Belfast is named after him I believe although Irish people will correct me if I'm wrong. An interesting story about Best, towards the end of his career he signed for Scottish club Hibernian. They were hardly getting any crowds for their matches but gained a crowd of over 10,000 for his first game, shows you the power one player had. If you think of how crazy people go for Ronaldo and Messi these days that's what it was like for Best)
    5. Pele (nothing needs to be said really just enjoy the greatest player ever to step onto a football pitch)
    6. Johan Cruyff (again nothing much needs to be said here. For me he is second best of all time behind Pele, what a player and I'm still trying to get a Dutch shirt with 14 Cruyff on the back. I'm not Dutch but if I had one it would take pride of place in my house but unfortunately it's really hard to get one)
There's quite a few I could've recommended but I didn't want to overload you. I'd start with those six and you can get more after

Its beautiful how innocent you are, I suspect you're going to get a little hell in the comments :D
I would say that Ronaldinho is responsible for more young people getting interested in football, than any other person ever. He played with such beauty, executed the hardest tricks to get through the defense and still seemed like he does all of this just for fun, like he really loves footbal, same as we all do as little kids, when we first start playing. It was amazing to watch him play. He also has all the titles you can imagine, more important ones than Christiano or Messi.
If you enjoy the curved shots, I would highly recommend to check at least one of the legendary free kicks from Roberto Carlos. And since you enjoy Christiano Ronaldo, you might also enjoy the real Ronaldo... Ronaldo Nazario, number 9 Brazil :)

    - Assists
    - Speed
    - Strength
    - Power
    - Free kicks
    - Vision
    - Dribbling
    - Trophies
People rule him out as the GOAT because his prime lasted like 4 years, but during that time it was like watching a magician.
He wore No. 10 for FC Barcelona and was the predecessor to Messi.
There's a quote that goes "Football can make anyone smile, but Ronaldinho can make the football smile".
It speaks of his ball control, skills, and flare, that left people in awe because it had never been seen before.
7:44 - In this clasico, Real Madrid fans gave him a standing ovation as they acknowledged they were in the presence of a great.
The thing that makes this even more chilling is that Ronaldinho was thrashing them in their own home.
Sadly his father passed away, and that appeared to be the beginning of the end for him.
By that time he had won about every trophy there was to win, so people say he lost a lot of drive and discipline, which caused him to go on the decline.
He is still one of the greatest without a doubt.

There's this story about a dutch football team, bad weather and a beverage can and the crossbar.
That's how i remember hearing it: The weather was bad, and the players didn't want to train because of the rain and them considering themselves trained enough.
The Trainer back then (Ernst Happel) an "old grumpy austrian (and a pretty good player in his time) argued that he would let them skip the trianing if they were in fact good enough. He told one player to place a coke can on one end of the cross bar. (this was at a time when the goal bars weren't all rounded bars like today) He then placed the ball at the 16m box and shot the can off. He then said that every player that could do that could skip the training. The ball and can were placed again, and each player tried.
-> All of them had to attend training. ;-)

There is someone known as Iniesta, which might be worth a reaction. To someone who's never played soccer, he might look unspecial but he was as good as Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho. The vision, mentality, presence, creativity, intuition, awareness... this guy bossed the midfield, it was like he was watching the game through the stands,... like for us it all looks easy but being there changes the game, remember unlike basketball the ground is huge and there are more players, you cannot constantly turn your head around and tiredness also plays a factor. But Iniesta transcended all of that. This guy was pretty much playing the sport like a video game like he had 3 eyes or something.
You should watch the video named "Art of Defending" to learn how some of the best defending looks like.
Ronaldinho played in a role known as Attacking Midfielder... and to be specific, a creative midfielder. Most of his job is to take the ball ahead by being creative and make sure it reaches the striker. He was just so good that he scored a ton himself. He didn't defend much. Other examples of midfielders like him are Zinedine Zidane, who played for Real Madrid. Also, Iniesta is considered one of the best in this role, he used to defend more and not be as flashy or end up scoring much, but Iniesta was a big role in FC Barcelona's 2 runs where they were deemed the most unplayable and scary team to play against.

Ronaldinho was playing with a heavier ball, in a time when it was a far more physical game and he had nearly every player on the other team kicking chunks out of him. So glad you got around to Ronaldinho.
Ronaldo and Messi are by far the best players in the world currently... but Ronaldinho was pure magic to watch. Played purely for the love of playing. Could do things with the ball nobody has seen before or since.

Ronaldinho was a novelty to european football. He came at a very young age and skyrocketed at Barcelona (red/blue jersey). the yellow/blue jersey = brazil national team in which he carried alot. He was a very humble and fun player to watch. VERY skilled and a great teamplayer. Hard to find anything negative to say about him. AND he was the ONLY player so far even the enemy fans clapped when he scored as he was so much appreciated by everyone. He played with Messi (when Messi was VERY young in the early 2000). He did what Cristiano Ronaldo does but 10 years earlier.

In that free kick the ball went under the wall. The wall will usually jump, which means that its possible to get the ball underneath it. This is why there is a modern trend of players literally laying down behind the wall at a free kick.

Ronaldo (an amazing player of course) is so in love with his own mythology that his sense of entitlement now has to travel in the hold on international flights because it's so weighty. Ronaldinho, on the other hand, plays spectacular football and knows he's amazing, but seems incredulous that it's bought him money (lots), women (lots), fame (lots) and cake (lots). Hey - we all like cake right?!

    • @tensemurm5924
      @tensemurm5924 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Such a dumbass take. Ronaldo has absolutely no sense of entitlement - he's never stopped working to stay at the top, even now when he's 36 years old.
Ronaldinho, on the other hand, stopped caring about football as soon as it allowed him to party. He was a spoilt brat even before Barcelona. Great player (for about 4 years), but felt entitled ever since he made it to Europe.

Messi is pure talent, born to play football, he is not human, he is an alien who feeds on football, he makes the impossible seem easy to do, and he does it almost every day, he does it better than everyone: he scores more goals than anyone, he gives more goal assists than anyone else. He is the one who plays the best (for 15 years) and also makes your team better. Never in my life will I see a player better than him for so long.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the insatiable search for perfection, working hard to have the perfect physique, the perfect power, the perfect technique, the perfect kick ... he is so insatiable that he is only happy when he is the one who scores the goals of his team. He is the perfect egoism of the perfect athlete.
Ronaldinho is magic, he is the most fun player to watch that I have ever encountered in my life, he plays and has fun like a child, he moves like a dancer, but his technique is so impressive that when he plays with the ball he looks like a prestiditator, a magician that drives defenders crazy. What a pity that his magic shone with fullness so little time.

Ronaldinho,[note 1] is a Brazilian former professional footballer and current ambassador for Barcelona. He played mostly as an attacking midfielder, but was also deployed as a winger. Often considered one of the best players of his generation and regarded by many as one of the greatest of all time, Ronaldinho won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d'Or. A global icon of the sport, he was renowned for his technical skills, creativity and dribbling ability, as well as his use of tricks, feints, overhead kicks, no-look passes and accuracy from free-kicks.
Ronaldinho made his career debut for Grêmio, in 1998. At age 20, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France before signing for Barcelona in 2003. In his second season with Barcelona, he won his first FIFA World Player of the Year award as Barcelona won the 2004-05 La Liga title. The season that followed is considered one of the best in his career as he was integral in Barcelona winning the 2005-06 UEFA Champions League, their first in fourteen years, and another La Liga title, giving Ronaldinho his first career double, receiving the 2005 Ballon d'Or and his second FIFA World Player of the Year in the process. After scoring two spectacular solo goals in the first 2005-06 El Clásico, Ronaldinho became the second Barcelona player, after Diego Maradona in 1983, to receive a standing ovation from Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Following a second-place La Liga finish to Real Madrid in the 2006-07 season and an injury-plagued 2007-08 season, Ronaldinho departed Barcelona to join AC Milan, where he won the 2010-11 Serie A. He then returned to Brazil to play for Flamengo in 2011 and Atlético Mineiro a year later where he won the 2013 Copa Libertadores, before moving to Mexico to play for Querétaro and then back to Brazil to play for Fluminense in 2015. Ronaldinho accumulated numerous other individual awards in his career. He was included in the UEFA Team of the Year and the FIFA World XI three times each, and was named UEFA Club Footballer of the Year for the 2005-06 season and South American Footballer of the Year in 2013. In 2004, he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players.
In his international career with Brazil, Ronaldinho earned 97 caps and scored 33 goals and represented his country in two FIFA World Cups. After debuting with the Seleção by winning the 1999 Copa América, he was an integral part of the 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning team, starring alongside Ronaldo and Rivaldo in an attacking trio, and was named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team. As captain, he led his team to the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup title and was named man of the match in the final. He also captained the Brazil Olympic team to a bronze medal in men's football at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

I started taking football more seriously when I saw Ronaldinho for the first time on the TV when I was a kid. When he was on the pitch you knew the game would be fun to watch. Shame partying and the star lifestyle took him from the football carrier he had. If he trained like Cristiano does he would be on par with him and Messi when it come to longevity. After Ronaldinhos decline I saw the same spark in Cristiano when he was playing. Ronaldinho was god gifted when it came to controlling the ball and football in general. Whereas Cristiano grinded the hell out and got to Ronaldinhos level and honestly surpassed him way beyond. But yes Cristiano basically took the flashiness of Ronaldinhos play and combined it with great athleticism and work ethics. Both are legends, because they were are and will motivate young players to be like them.

Messi and Ronaldinho played together for a few seasons, as right and left wingers respectively, linking up with striker, Samuel Eto’o. Messi was just 16 when he made his 1st team debut for Barcelona and after his first training session, Ronaldinho told his team mates that he believed one day Messi would be a better player than himself.

  • @MisjudgedSpirit

    - Near the beginning of the video when the ball was going back to him its because he was hitting the crossbar to send the ball back to himself (which for many people hitting the crossbar alone is hard enough but to get the ball back to yourself is even harder).
    - Ronaldinho was playing for Barcelona before Messi made the first team and had to number 10 shirt which was passed onto Messi when Ronaldinho left (also as another note Ronaldo skills would've come from Ronaldinho as he used them originally one of the reasons Ronaldinho is football's greatest entertainment is because he was one of the first big players to do those kinds of skill moves).
    - The lob over a goalkeeper is just called a chip shot, and for the freekick the players in the wall jumped so the ball went underneath the wall.
Also as an added fun fact in case you didn't know Ronaldinho is his nickname because a Ronaldo already played for Brazil and his name is actually Ronaldo he went by Ronaldinho which means Little Ronaldo
As for defending against players like Ronaldinho its incredibly difficult and as someone who used to play as a defender when I was younger the main 'tactic' really is to watch the ball as a lot of skill moves involve players moving their legs around/over the ball so I was taught to try and focus on the ball as the ball is my target to get it away from the player but it also just comes down with try to predict the skill a player is going to do and maybe get a little lucky on the way, another tactic is to try and crowd those kind of players so they don't have the room to move about but as you've seen with Messi sometimes even that doesn't work.

Born and raised in Madeira, Ronaldo began his senior club career playing for Sporting CP, before signing with Manchester United in 2003, aged 18, winning the FA Cup in his first season. He would also go onto win three consecutive Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup; at age 23, he won his first Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo was the subject of the then-most expensive association football transfer when he signed for Real Madrid in 2009 in a transfer worth €94 million (£80 million), where he won 15 trophies, including two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, four Champions Leagues, and became the club's all-time top goalscorer. He also finished runner-up for the Ballon d'Or three times, behind Lionel Messi (his perceived career rival), and won back-to-back Ballons d'Or in 2013 and 2014, and again in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, Ronaldo signed for Juventus in a transfer worth an initial €100 million (£88 million), the most expensive transfer for an Italian club and the most expensive transfer for a player over 30 years old. He won two Serie A titles, two Supercoppa Italiana, and a Coppa Italia in his first three seasons with the club.
Ronaldo made his senior international debut for Portugal in 2003 at age 18, and has since earned over 170 caps, including appearing and scoring in eleven major tournaments, becoming Portugal's most capped player and his country's all-time top goalscorer. He scored his first international goal at Euro 2004, where he helped Portugal reach the final, and assumed full captaincy of the national team in July 2008. In 2015, Ronaldo was named the best Portuguese player of all time by the Portuguese Football Federation. The following year, he led Portugal to their first triumph in a major tournament by winning Euro 2016, and received the Silver Boot as the second-highest goalscorer of the tournament. He also led them to victory in the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019, and later received the Golden Boot as top scorer of Euro 2020.
One of the most marketable and famous athletes in the world, Ronaldo was ranked the world's highest-paid athlete by Forbes in 2016 and 2017 and the world's most famous athlete by ESPN from 2016 to 2019. Time included him on their list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014. He is the first footballer and the third sportsman to earn $1 billion in their career.

Late to the party, but still here.
I wouldn't say he doesn't have Ronaldo's sharpness. It's more so that his level and skill is so high that he can move slower and more relaxed because he knows he will overcome them anyway.
Let me put it another way:
Cristiano is like a smart kid taking a test but putting all of his focus on his paper, double checking his answers, and hyperventilating with urgency to finish with the best score possible.
Ronaldinho was the genius that didn't study, showed up to take his test 15 minutes late, hummed, smilled, and was just chillen the whole time without a care in the world only to finish before Crstiano and get a better score than him.

Ronaldinho is Messi's mentor. When Messi was 19 years old he played with Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho was the number 10 until he left Barcelona and gave that number to Messi. Lol I remember because I grew up in Spain from 2001 to 2006. And Ronaldinho is way older than Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo learned those moves from Ronaldinho. And on top of winning everything with Barcelona, he has also won 2 World Cups with the Brazilian National team. A straight up legend. He is still my favorite player ever. Love his free spirit way of play.

Ronaldinho was a traditional "number 10" player. The number 10 player (attacking midfielder) is mainly responsible for creating goal opportunities. These are usually extremely skillful players in the art of dribbling and passing. They are the players with the best creativity and vision in the game. They will also create scoring opportunities for themselves but their main purpose is to create for the striker.
