Love your concise and organised reviews, thank you! I think you mention this release is the same transfer as in The World of Wong Kar-Wai Collector's Edition - The Criterion Collection, but I'm not sure, so could you please confirm?
I'm wondering if you could tell if the extra resolution cleared up the rain scenes. In the World of WKW blu ray the rain is very muddy, but in the older blu ray it's nice and crisp. Does this fix that?
This is an absolutely beautiful, sophisticated movie with wonderful performances by Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. Leung, a superstar in Asia, was somewhat known to American audiences but Marvel getting him to co-star in Shang-Chi was a major get. Even in a big Hollywood action movie Tony was just outstanding and dominated every scene that he was in.
Thanks Adam. I was hoping you would review this movie. I have seen nothing from this director and thought this looked interesting. Plus with the Barnes and Noble sale just around the corner, I wanted to give this movie a look.
@@michaelthemovieattic I won't hype it too much so you won't set very high expectations but for this movie I bought the Region A blu ray player back then so I could play it since it was only available on blu ray by Criterion and was region A locked. Do let us know your review once you watch the movie
The only time to buy Criterion’s is when they are 50% off is when they go on sale which is twice a year for the month of July and November. There’s also a couple flash sales that typically last a day. Nobody in the know buys these full price.
@@Bubaglobalj but it also depends on how much you want something. Some movies are very hard to resist. I don’t mind a price drop but a price drop just two days after my copy was shipped is what I didn't like.
@@Bubaglobalj I had it on pre order ever since it was up and I didn't know the Criterion sale is up. I am not from US so don't keep track of this but it's ok.
I love how he (i dont know if you know this but either way) legit lets his actors addlib a good portion of the movie. In my opinion hes the dramatic version of christopher guest. Now my opinions on the 4k uhhhhh yeah i hate how there doing it. Why don't they just put on the label like this a different movie like this isn't in the mood for love from 2000 this is in the mood for love when whever Kar wai made this film. I'm not against a reworking of a movie i JUST WISH i could be like when mf doom did madvillainy 2 ya know. I'm happy Kar wai is able to make what he wanted to make but I just wish they would be more open about it being changed. I'm really passionate about this because im afraid directprs are just gonna go back and redo there movies and then we will lose the original. Also another reason im passionate is that I for one think in the mood for love is a masterpeice and the best movie of all time but its also my favorite movie so when something like this happens to my favorite movie it sucks. Great video btw
I just really don't understand why they (IMO) ruined the coloring in the World of Wong Kar Wai box set (and not just for this film) and made the coloring look SO much worse, and it's a real shame :(
It was Wong Kar Wai himself, not Criterion. He claims these new restorations are closer to what he originally intended. Nonetheless, I understand being frustrated.

I own the Wong Kar Wai Criterion Box kinda glad this isn’t a huuuuuge improvement if I’m being honest.

@@Kashif314 Thanks for the reassurance. The guy at Barnes and Noble said almost the same thing. So I feel confident in my purchase.

Do you miss the HDR? Have you seen/own the original Blu-ray? I’m thinking about trying to find the original Blu.
I think hdr would have benefited this greatly. I don’t own the original Blu, but I’d like to pick it up during this upcoming sale.
The 4k uses different cover artwork than the 2012 bluray.
Thank you Adam.
