    The UES is massively expensive, however there’s a stylistic and drastic change between The 5th/Madison/Park/Lexington Avenue section and the 3rd/2nd/1st/York Avenue section. Once you get to 3rd Avenue it’s a lot younger, rents are actually somewhat reasonable for Manhattan, and the vibe is a lot accessible and “normal”

    • @yourhollywooddream

      Exactly right! I went to high school on the UES and definitely it’s relatively affordable from 3rd Avenue east; and unaffordable from Lexington west.

    People say billionaires live in UES and millionaires live in UWS

  • @word42069
    @word42069 2 ปีที่แล้ว +90

    Yes, there’s money in the UES but ironically some of the cheapest rent in Manhattan is also there lol. All the young people want to be in other neighborhoods and downtown. Covid came and even a lot of those people moved to Brooklyn. East side of UES is what we call “yopros” young professionals and bros. Our luxury building in a quiet/popular Brooklyn neighborhood had a LOT of manhattanites move in during covid, it will be interesting to see how the trends move going forward. UES has a lot of older housing stock and I think developers will have a hard time offering the amenities renters want nowadays. To buy, believe it or not you might be able to get some value out of the UES right now.

    When I was in New York in 2002, I got lost (because I took the wrong subway), and I had to cut through these neighborhoods to get to my hotel (the Hotel Beacon). It felt so safe and people were very helpful directing me to where I needed to go. I love the charm and the vibe and aesthetics of that area. This video was also great because you had a local, so it wasn't just a tourist viewpoint. Gracie Mansion is a very unique site in the city. While I'm not a fan of it's current occupant, its not often you see an 18th century private home in the middle of midtown. I'm glad you included a food component. The egg & caviar appetizer looked absolutely delectable. The Ramen entree was a pleasant surprise as well. Keep up the good work as always and the best of holidays to you and your family.

    Before moving to the UES, I had this preconceived notion that much other New Yorkers had about it being snobby etc. To sum things up, UES is a cleaner/safer version of Manhattan. Its filled with young professionals east of 3rd Avenue, the old money folks live west of Lexington Ave. The biggest pros living in UES is access to Central Park, Carl shruz park, clean, safe, and nightlife on 2nd Ave for young professionals. Biggest con is the lack of diversity of people. Better for 25-35 year olds than 18-25.

      Exactly. Easy fix. Stop voting in Leftists & Dem Covid Climate Cultists.
      Illegals are voting in NY & CA. How is that not Election rigging & fraud? Stop voting in Socialist Democrats & Regressive Progressives Marxists that are horrible leaders with Anti American policies. Poor stewards of taxpayer $$$. Party of high crime, open borders, inflation, high taxes, bad Covid Policies, CRT/DEI indoctrination, Great Resets, Build Back Commie, Agenda21 rebranded Agenda2030 & Broke.

    I work on the East Side so I'm always the one dragging friends to little spots here send there. I also love the Alice tea cup on ihe east side more than the west side.the weat side is uncharted territory for me but the East I know I love.

    The last time I was on the UES was 2007 and walked on Lex and found a German restaurant and deli that served the most amazing schnitzel. That things was as big as my head and damn expensive too. And I bought some liverwurst back to LA for my dad. Along with the Zabars freshly ground coffee I always wondered if my checked in luggage drove the screening dogs mad. 😄

    Hey Jon - just a note to let you know that I watched this video yesterday and made a reservation for NR for Happy Hour / Dinner with Trung (husband) for tonight. We had a little problem with which street they were on - but other than that, thanks for the GREAT recommendation. The staff was excellent - Trung enjoyed $1.50 oysters - the craft cocktails were amazing and we shared the Egg Egg Egg and a bowl of Kyoto Ramen. GREAT meal - we will definitely go back. FYI when I made the reservation, I let them know that we discovered them because of you. Hopefully, you get credit somehow. :-) Have a great last few days of 2021 and a SUPER-GREAT 2022! :-)

    Lived on 84th & 3rd in the 70's as a kid & the East Side Park was where we played 🏀 & ⚾️ ! Lots of nice shops on 86th. Definitely a nice place to grow up & relatively quiet.

      She is so hitting on him. It was so obvious at 7:16 when she made her aphrodisiac comment at the restaurant. Notice how she laughs and then flings her hair with her hand immediately afterwards. This is what women typically do when they feel that there's sexual tension. 😘

    I believe NYC is always a big adventure. But i believe that Park Slope is very unique, too. Or is that wrong to say? Sometimes I wish NYC could be a city in Europe. But NYC can't be NYC whithout being a Part of the USA. So it is far away. But the Upper East Side looks really very bautiful.

    5th Ave, Madison and Park Ave are for the old money rich people. Fancy stores, restaurants and gourmet markets. Further East, where Yorkville is, is more for the young crowd with bars and lively nightlife.
