Power itself is nothing special. Not that different from other non-turbo 4 cylinder cars. What sets it apart from other 4 cylinder cars is the response from the throttle pedal and transmission. In my 4 years of usage not once did it hesitate in a kickdown situation. It’s always in the right gear no matter what so overtaking isn’t a problem. Weirdly enough I would say this Mazda transmission is more responsive than a ZF 8hp in sport mode on a BMW non-M car. But being only a 6 speed, the gear spacing leaves a lot to be desired. Gears 1-3 are pretty short, 4-6 are pretty long.
