Beautiful. But glass, being dangerous to children and animals (pets), I would recommend spraying finished product with a clear sealing spray. Keep any glass crystals from getting into little folk's fingers or pet's tummies etc. Just the advice from a glass artist :) Otherwise - your works are wonderful.
Thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate the suggestion and I'm going to pin it so that others can see and consider. I think I'll spray mine before putting them away for the season. I've been amazed at how little they do seem to shed... but of course some still happens so it's nice to know there's a way to make them safer!

She started me on the Child’s Day plate in 1985, and I have one for each year that she gifts to me every Christmas. Definitely a family colllection tradition, and fun to see you using the plate to catch your glitter!

I think beautiful things deserve to be used and not stuffed away! I picked up "Julenat i stalden" this summer at an estate sale for a couple dollars and it has inspired me to look for more! Thanks for taking the time to share and watch ♥️
About 5 years ago I had THE best glitter stash, all separated and organized. Then my daughter discovered crafting. I managed to save most of my German glass collection… these are beautiful, definitely worthy of me breaking out my stash!!!
Oh, yes. My 17 year old granddaughter and her best friend were wandering around my house when we first moved in. (It’s an old house with weird staircases and hidden doors!) and they found the art room. I almost needed an ambulance when the came down stairs, after making collages, decoupaged a few wooden boxes, and some bracelets with Swarovski crystals. I think I hyperventilated for some minutes, but they didn’t know. I didn’t want to discourage their creativity, but now I hide my crystals and best decoupage papers! Eeek!
Such beautiful ornaments! Can’t wait to try this. Managed to scavenge a boxful of beautiful, clean pine cones left behind in a debris pile at our local yard waste recycle plot - score! And last summer I found a huge cluster of bittersweet berries here, too! Just can’t beat free, nature based craft supplies! Think happy thoughts for happy crafts, everyone!
These are just lovely. I was surprised to see a Bing and Grundhal Christmas plate for your crafting. I have a large collection from my Grandmother and they are very special to me.
Thank you so much! I love those plates, the one in this video was my Grandmother's ... I purposely used it in this video (very carefully!) because I believe in using beautiful things, and, I wondered if anyone would catch it... and a few did! I picked another one up this summer at an estate sale for pennies that has horses on it in a stable, it's my new favorite ... might be in one of my Christmas videos!
Glass glitter has a bright sparkle no other material can match. Glass glitter was used for hundreds (thousands) of years before the plastic variety appeared in the 1930's. The type of glass typically used for the glitter (soft) means the grinding process results primarily in tiny nuggets of glass instead of sharp shards. That is why it is safer to touch than ordinary broken glass. There are still some sharp tiny pieces of glass in glass glitter, so it is wise to be cautious while using the material, and to carefully shake off the excess glitter before displaying a finished item. Sealing the crafted piece after glue has thoroughly dried with a spray on sealant will help secure the glitter against shedding.
Thank you for this fantastic comment! Sealing definitely is the right choice for some people and can definitely help with shedding if thats a concern and it's a good thing to consider when crafting with Glitter Glass! ♥️
My mother done the sugar cones some she painted green al let dry them applied the glue and glass glitter. They turned aut beautiful. Hello, what a fun craft! I will have to try this with some of the cones in my collection sometime. As a forester and arborist, I just wanted to share some information about your cone species. The first cones you glittered were from spruce trees, they looked like Norway spruce cones. The ones you referred to as sugar cones are from pine trees but they are not from sugar pines, those cones are 12-24” long and do not have a prickle on the scale. The first ones looked kind of like ponderosa or Austrian pines but it’s hard to tell from a video and not in person or without a location for where the cones were foraged or their origin. Anyway just wanted to share some tree info because I’m a crafty tree nerd like that 😅
Tara you must have some amazing cones!! I now realize I have a LOT to learn about conifers haha, I hope I didn't make you cringe too hard! 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! The long skinny ones came from a tree in my yard - it's very tall (~80ft) w/long arching branches and stiff short needles. Someone asked me what kind they were and my best guess was spruce, so I'm glad to know I might have been close. The smaller of the short/fat ones I misidentified came from trees on my parents' estate that were shorter with long soft needles, what I would call more like a white pine. These trees are all currently growing in NY state... BUT, I will say that we are not far from a huge arboretum with a massive collection of pines from all different parts of the world, so who the heck knows what kinds of seeds/pine nuts are being distributed by the birds around here!! The largest ones I had in the video, unfortunately I don't remember what the tree was like that those came from. I'll be paying more attention in the future though!
Thanks, we have pines down here in Louisiana but not as pretty as the long ones in this video. Will these open any further, i think it would spoil the effect if so.
@@juliapendergast5253 it looks like the cones are fully opened, so no worries. If you are ever concerned about that happening with freshly picked cones, you can dry them in the oven on a low temperature for a while to help them open and to shed any seeds or other debris.

I also like the way you are using a Danish Christmas plate and a beautiful silver spoon in your crafting. As they say- make everyday special. Thank you
Thank you! I completely agree about making every day special, I use nice things with care but I DO make sure to actually use them - beautiful things weren't meant to sit in a drawer or closet gathering dust!
First time visiting, I live among Pine trees albeit they shed small pine cones. Whenever I’m out walking I see a pretty one I pick it up to use in crafts but never have an idea how. The tree is beyond stunning. Mother Nature would be so delighted 🥰
Such an easy craft to do with kids. You can 'prepare' the pinecones ahead of time (dusting them off/or drying on low heat in oven to cause them to fully open up) - I used some different colors of metallic folk art paint - copper, fushia, teal, etc - and after paint dried, then the glitter - they look so lovely!
I just love the German glass glitter. I never even heard about it until about a year ago. I couldn’t imagine that it could be any better than regular glitter, but it is so beautiful! The old, vintage Putz houses and ornaments were made with this glass glitter.

Your ideas are exactly what o was looking for this Christmas. We sold our house 1.5 years ago and live in our RV 6 mo a year. This will help me with my natural teee and gift the pinecones from our beautiful campground Deer Creek! Thank you. Merry Christmas
Put glitter into a plastic bag ,zip lock, ,drop in the cone ,shake about , remove ,leaving glitter in bag etc , way tidied, do it with all sorts of items. ❤❤
I made these this year. I left some out side to dry. They got a light foggy mist that night. ( I live by the ocean.). The next day I went out to get them. As they are a natural product, the pine cones closed up in the damp. The modgepoge softened and glued the pine cones shut! I called them glitter turds.
Oh my gosh that gave me a laugh! 😂 I'm so sorry that happened to you! I've certainly accidentally ruined plenty of crafts unfortunately! I hope you try again some day and are able to keep them dry!
So glad to see a tutorial on doing this with the variations. We have tons of pinecones and am thinking that these would be great gifts for next Christmas. Thank you
My grandmother made these but she painted them different colors like red, blue, yellow, etc. I’m 63 and still have two large ones for display. They can last for years if carefully stored.
Thanks for commenting, they sound beautiful! Agreed, most of mine are several years old; the only new cones I made this year are those I made in this video. I wrap them in tissue paper and store in gallon ziplock bags in my Christmas totes and they've done just fine!
Hi there! I'm new to your channel and love it! I've been making my own Christmas ornaments to give to family and friends and love the vintage and nature look. These are perfect. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I absolutely love all the great info you've provided with your very clear & well made instructional video - thank you for a great new craft for me to try! I think I'll also try painting the tippy ends of the pine cone scales (where snow ❄️ would cling to), then put the glue add glitter over the white. I'm kind of wondering why you didn't think to use either latex or nitrile gloves to help protect your fingers and hands... I can't imagine how much it might hurt if some of that got under your fingernails 😬
Thank you so much, I really appreciate hearing that feedback especially since this was one of my earliest videos and I have a LOT to learn about teaching and speaking on camera! I surely never expected this video to spread so far and wide! As for the gloves, I have to be honest and say basically I was being impatient... I was inspired and wanted to make the video right that minute, so I didn't stop to get gloves 🤷🏼♀️ This is definitely a project where wearing gloves would be useful!

Oh I definitely do know!! 😂😂 I bought wrapping paper with that plastic glitter on it one year and I was pretty sure I might have to buy new rugs after that one, I swear I was still finding it in June! 😂 This glitter thankfully behaves very differently in my experience. My vacuum is definitely my best friend this time of year! 🐈⬛ Happy crafting!

@@wrenhavenhouseandgarden Yes I did notice. THANK YOU. And now that you said that, I just realized this isn't normal glitter at all is it? Actually GLASS. That is why it is so effective! I won't forget to seal seal seal! I did watch a designer this year take her local foraged long cones and use liberally in her design. The tip I received from her was to prep them by a low heat bake. Killing off critters of course, but to also stunt the weeping of the pine sap. She used cookie sheets and her oven. (Rebecca Robison of Kin Woven Design in case you want to catch it. Her Christmas content is sublime). While her natural effect was lovely, YOURS TOPS HERS! It is just that extra somethin' somethin' that brings the magic. Thanks again! Muwah! 😘

I literally just found your channel, I wish I had seen it before Christmas.. however, this already gives me a headstart in something to do w my kiddos for the upcoming Christmas Season. My oldest is 11 and he is really into pinecone decorations. I am also a homeschool Mommy, so these can count for class work for him. So excited to share in your adventures, to learn and create. May your New Year be Blessed.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for commenting! I had no idea this video would be so popular but I'm happy to hear lots of people say it's inspiring them for next year's projects! Take note that the glitter can be very sharp as it is literally finely crushed glass, this is why I handle it with the spoon in the video. Others have also suggested sealing the pinecones after they are dry with a clear spray (such as the one Mod Modge makes). Have fun crafting and welcome to the channel! ❤️
I live where i can get any. Size of pinecones . I DRY them out fully by putting them in a paper bag set on a cookie sheet so any bugs or ticks in there will die..the oven set on a low temp for an hour or longer ensures they are truly dry.
Lovely and simple idea for Christmas decorating. I have heard somewhere, that you can set your glitter with hairspray if you want ti to stick better and last longer, (applying after modpoge drys). I have to wonder if a light coating of clear spray poly would work? Good vid.
You might want to explain how to prep the pine cones before using them for craft projects. TH-cam videos explain how to disinfect by soaking in vinegar & water solution, then "baking" pine cones. You place pine cones on an aluminum foil- wrapped cookie sheet or shallow metal baking tray. I believe it took 20-25 minutes on each side in 200-225° F. oven. Sap will disperse over pine cones (so make sure to wrap foil all over both sides of your tray). Cold, wet pine cones will appear "closed"; after baking in oven, cones open up and look much nicer/fuller. Great to know germs, dirt and mold have been removed before you bake them. I first rinsed dirt & pine needles off with warm water, then submerged them in a bucket of hot water and Dawn dish detergent then rinsed them again. Then I did the vinegar/water soak, then the baking in the oven. 🎄
Thanks for taking the time to comment! And I agree with all of your good advice about preparing pinecones! I like to use my dehydrator but there are many ways to make them craft ready. If I were to make this video again I would definitely make sure to point out how important it is to dry/clean/de-bug them properly before using... but this was my first real TH-cam video and I sure didn't expect it to be so incredibly popular! 😅 And it's a good example of how inexperienced I was even a year ago. Happily many people seem to read through the comments so I'm sure your tips will be seen and utilized ♥️

Put glitter into a plastic bag ,zip lock, ,drop in the cone ,shake about , remove ,leaving glitter in bag etc , way tidied, do it with all sorts of items. ❤❤
interesting technique, thanks for sharing!
A salt shaker for the glitter works great. I have an old one with larger holes.
Great idea, thanks for the suggestion!
I love the natural tree. It's beautiful.
Thank you! It remains one of my favorites and I'll be leaning back in to that decorating style this year
The pine cones are very stunning! ❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
You can spray them with hair spray when done to prevent the glitter from coming off! They are very pretty!
Gotta love that hair spray! Thanks for Commenting!
your tree is simply beautiful.
Thank you!
I’d never heard of German glass glitter. These are beautiful. Thanks!
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Lovely! I haven't heard of German glitter glass before,it is so sparkly.
It is! It's so different than typical glitter, I love the sparkle!
Yout nature tree is stunning!
Thank you so much, and thanks for commenting! I'm glad you like it!
Just pine cones with crushed glass and they are beautiful. I love them. Will definitely do this next year!
Sometimes simple can be so beautiful! Thank you for commenting, have fun making them!
Next year? I’m doing this now! No time to waste on Christmas crafts! 😂🎄🎁🎅⛄️
@@IrishAnnie Ha I'm with you there Ann!
Glorious . I will be hanging them on ribbons from the garland around the room.
that will be beautiful!
So glad to see a tutorial on doing this with the variations. We have tons of pinecones and am thinking that these would be great gifts for next Christmas. Thank you
That's great! Happy you enjoyed it, thanks for commenting!
These are so pretty. I’ve never heard of glitter glass.
Thank you! 🤗 I love them, they're so simple and stay looking beautiful year after year.
Wow, they came out beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Blessings from Texas.
Thank you!
They are so lovely.
They are beautiful!
Thank you! I love them too! I can't wait to use them again this year
My grandmother made these but she painted them different colors like red, blue, yellow, etc.
Absolutely beautiful, love your tree and decor 😍
Thank you so much! New video of 2023 decor going up Saturday!
Beautiful pine cones!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Ohhh, they’re beautiful!
I’m gonna go pick up all the pine cones and get started on this… beautiful and so my, taste😊
I'm so happy to hear that! I'll be using them in my Christmas decor again this year so I hope to see you there!
Hi there! I'm new to your channel and love it! I've been making my own Christmas ornaments to give to family and friends and love the vintage and nature look. These are perfect. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you so much and welcome! What a nice comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed and hope you have fun making these yourself
beautiful tree
These are beautiful! I don't have glass glitter, but I do have some regular craft glitter, and I will try these first with that. I love this project.
I hope they turn out great for you! If nothing else you'll get your technique down for when you break out the special glitter!
The pine cones are so beautiful! Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! Happy New Year!
I love it so pretty and simple. I will be doing this thank you for the idea.
You're welcome, enjoy making them!
Love these! What a wonderful idea and so easy! I will be doing this for my Christmas dinner table. Thank you !
Have fun making them!
@@wrenhavenhouseandgarden I will enjoy making them and I want you to enjoy making Mississippi Christmas ornaments and decor if I can add in comments. That may be stomping on your feet if so , I will not add.
Have you ever done any sweetgum tree balls? The seed pods from the sweetgum tree are spiky little balls and i know they look very nice when sprayed with gold paint but with that glass glitter they would probably look fantastic.
I have not but I think that's a great idea! The possibilities are endless ♥️ Thanks for commenting!
I loved this idea. I have a bag of pine votes from the yard but didn't know what I was going to do with them. Thank you for sharing! I immediately subscribed ❤️🇨🇦❤️
I'm so happy to hear that! There are many wonderful retailers but this is the glitter I use: www.save-on-crafts.com/search?type=product&q=german%20glitter%20glass*
I don't know if they ship to Canada but I'm sure there is some retailer that does! If you find one, would you kindly consider posting it here as a reply? That would surely be helpful to someone else!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Very pretty! Love this!!
Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for the video on how to make pinecones beautiful.
You're so welcome!
These are SO BEAUTIFUL! I'm going to try this lovely idea 🎄⭐😊
I'm so glad! Have fun!
Loved this, thank you for sharing. I will have to try this, maybe I'll get my kids to help. There may be a glitter explosion but oh well that is part of crafting sometimes. 😊
You're welcome! I hope you have so much fun! Hey that's what vacuums are for haha 🤗
Though lovely, I was making these 3/4 years ago! ❤
Great glass pine cone thanks for sharing 🤙
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I've never liked using glitter because it never seems to end...you know, the way it just seems to pop up EVERY where, WEEKS after you put every glittery thing away?🤷🏻♀️😄
BUT this might make me change my ways, because it's absolutely GORGEOUS!
❤🤗❤🤗❤
I've never even heard of this kind of glitter, so thank you for introducing me to a beautiful new crafting item.
And I do have cats, so I will be extra careful with it, and also use a sealer.😺
Oh I definitely do know!! 😂😂 I bought wrapping paper with that plastic glitter on it one year and I was pretty sure I might have to buy new rugs after that one, I swear I was still finding it in June! 😂 This glitter thankfully behaves very differently in my experience.
My vacuum is definitely my best friend this time of year! 🐈⬛
Happy crafting!
Could you spray them with a sealer to keep them pretty? And i bet some holographic glitter would be pretty.
You can! I've started doing that since this video at the suggestion of some people here in the comments and it does help!
Absolutely stunning pinecones. I can't wait to try this craft!
I'm so glad you like them! Enjoy!
Loved the ornaments with the German glass glitter...
Going to try a few this week and 4 sure will make them 4 the holidays in '23!
Great! Thanks for commenting! Take note of the suggestions (pinned comment) to seal them after drying and handle with care, I hope you enjoy making them!
January 1, 2023 just liked 1K for you! Happy New Year! And thanks for the magical glammed up natural plan for 2023. Going to be making a German glass glittery gooey glam fest for sure! Thank you! PS. Will be adding sweet gum balls and cotton pods to my design. REALLY EXCITED!
Wow thank you so much! I'm so happy you are inspired! I love the idea of cotton pods etc, there are so many beautiful foraged options out there... mother nature is generous to creative people! Be careful handling the glass and if you didn't see it, notice the great suggestion by the glass artist in the pinned comment regarding sealing them for safety ❤️
Muwah! 😘
Wow what a compliment! I use my dehydrator but oven works great too! Happy crafting! ❤️
I absolutely LOVE your nature tree.💙
Thank you so much! ♥️
These are absolutely stunning!!! Tfs:)
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed and you're very welcome!
Nice! I want to do this with my existing pinecone collection. 😅
Have fun!!
Beautiful! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Very beautiful.
Glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful!!!!
Thank you!!
Hi!! First, these are STUNNING!!
Absolutely fabulous, I can't wait to get underway with them.
Enjoy! They are an enjoyable project for sure!
Beautifully done ♥️🎄💚♥️🎄💚
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed!
A very enjoyable video
I'm glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Just beautiful, I’m going to try it!
Thank you! Enjoy!
Very pretty
These are very pretty. If you use the mod podge on them again after they dry, the glitter won't come off as much. Or you could you a clear coat spray
Thanks for the great suggestions and for your comment! Glad you enjoyed
I live where i can get any. Size of pinecones . I DRY them out fully by putting them in a paper bag set on a cookie sheet so any bugs or ticks in there will die..the oven set on a low temp for an hour or longer ensures they are truly dry.
Sounds like a good method! You're blessed to have access to lots of pinecones!
Love this! I have a group of friends that love to craft. This year we want to make Christmas ornaments and this will be a perfect addition! Thank you❤
I'm so happy to hear that! Enjoy and happy crafting
Very beautiful
I have some of these ornaments from German. Got them in Rotenburg.
I bet they're beautiful! Thank you for watching!
Lovely and simple idea for Christmas decorating. I have heard somewhere, that you can set your glitter with hairspray if you want ti to stick better and last longer, (applying after modpoge drys). I have to wonder if a light coating of clear spray poly would work? Good vid.
Some other crafters in the comments have said this works - it's worth trying! I love learning tricks to improve the process!
Hello!! Thank you for sharing. The glitter glass is beautiful - project for next Christmas!
I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for commenting!
Very lovely. And easy. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed! I hope you try it!
Your spoon looks like the soup spoons we used to have for our "good" silver ware; It's called Tudor Rose.
Thank you for sharing that! I would love to have some more of those spoons!
Great idea.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for commenting!
Beautiful. Will try this for sure
So Beautiful👍
Very pretty! Love Pine Cones, collected many over the years, from my backyard! I'm a new subie and have clicked the bell for all your videos!
Thank you Debbie, welcome and thank you so much for subscribing! Pinecones are so beautiful, they're geometric marvels of nature! Thanks for subscribing!
Simple and BEAUTIFUL! Good job!
Thank you ❤️ and thank you so much for commenting!
Looks great, nice work!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
