    For me the downsides are:
    - Android 12 (when it should be Android 13)
    - Still a big screen (was hoping something near the Xperia's screen size, like a 6.0-inch screen)
    - non expandable storage
    - Will probably arrive in my country VERY late
    What I like:
    - still has a headphone jack
    - double speakers
    - the security updates for 4 years

The problem here isn't that Android 13 is better... it's that Nokia promises 3 Android Version Updates. We are close to the final release of Android 14 (been running the beta for months now) and Nokia is running 12. They will likely drop support with Android 15, which means next year.

I will pin this comment as it answers most of the remarks about the phone.
I think the best way to explain it is the buyer of a Land Rover Defender is not likely to cross shop between it and a BMW 5 series even if they cost the same.
Sure, the XR20/21 are more mainstream than your average rugged device which is super heavy and really bulky, but they are aimed at a different type of buyer who isn't gonna find the "spec" advantage of your average smartphone appealing compared to the durability/ruggedness of the XR21.
Different product, different buyer, different requirements, different selling points.
The XR20 has over 4/5 rating from over 200+ reviews on Amazon because the people buying it got exactly what they needed. It is not a spec champion, and the value you get is from the fact that its practically indestructible.

Great to see your videos again and reviews. I had missed the last few ones! Arghhh, I want this to be my next upgrade. I like the features and design, the battery life, the built-in toughness and the IP69K/68 water and dust resistance it has...but not having MicroSD support for me is a problem and might be a deal breaker, even though it has E-Sim support. I'll have to think. It's between this or the G60. Yeah on the software front, it really should be shipping with Android 13 at this point. Pretty much all similar phones, including the Samsung A54, are doing so (and that one does have MicroSD support but no headphone jack). Thanks for the advance preview! PS Overall, I think the XR21 is a step back from the X20.

  • @ElectroFox77
    @ElectroFox77 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I'm glad they made the XR21 smaller, I'm daily driving an XR20 currently, and the only thing I'd change about it is it's rather large size. That said, I'm not one to upgrade often, I came to the XR20 from a Galaxy J3 Prime, which I believe was released in 2016 for about $150USD? Although I'm glad they chose to continue to XR series phones, I really thought the XR20 would be a one-off product.

After the Nokia 9 I had a fall out with Nokia. I am a pixel user now and I enjoy the experience. Its always so close yet so far. One step forward, two steps backwards. I wish they would just stick to one model and market it better year after year. I am tired of waiting.

That being said, I look forward to this lineup down the line, once my XR20 kicks the bucket. Would love to see the XR series have SD card slot, audio jack, Type-C, while having an OLED panel would be a big bonus.
Edit: Didn't know that the SD card slot was omitted, so that was disappointing. Hope it comes back at later iterations.

    I love my XR20.
No dual LED light is a bit annoying. I use my phone as a torch. Glad to see they kept the programmable button though.
No lanyard port is a huge downgrade for me too. I don't want to have to use a case just to have a lanyard attached.
I don't care about wireless charging.
But yeah.. reducing the torch brightness and lack of lanyard port.. those were killer features for me. Simple features. Should have kept them on. Bad move on Nokias part. It is what made the phone unique.

I bought Nokia 6.1 in 2018, this phone is still with me in perfect condition, now I am watching your video with this phone.I am very impressed with the build quality of Nokia. At the moment I'm very happy using a second-hand 7 plus. As a successor of my Nokia 5 (still a trustworthy back up phone, but 16GB ram, net < 8GB, wasn't enough for my usage). I had the charging port renewed, just to be sure, and stuck a €15 wireless charging accessory onto it. As well as a booklet rubberized case. Installed GCam (just for low light pictures, with fair light the original software does pretty well).
SD card and headphones jack. SD 6 series. No punchhole or notch. 6 inch. 1080p screen. Sturdy and beautiful design. 64 GB is ok by me, plus the SD card of course. Still more than fast enough (I'm not a gamer).
Can anyone give me a reason to buy a new Nokia (read HMD) phone? And, if yes, which one would that will be?

Decent specs on paper. Not sure if it's worth $499 though.. This has been their drawback, right from days of Nokia 8. They just don't get the price right as per the mood of the market. I do understand its not that huge and production cost is to be viewed but at least they should compete on providing Android 13 and some decent specs and aspects to justify the pricing. This will be followed by huge discounts and drops in about 6 months when the device gets a bit out dated and pixel and Samsung launch their mid rangers.

But my current iphone xs max charging port has been replaced twice, but still gives me problems. Would have been a pain if I had no way to charge it. Phones (and tablets especially) should always have multiple connectivity and charging options. Just allows redundancy and professional use with peripherals.

I’m exited honestly it might become my new android phone and I also like the green (I also have the green iPhone 13 Pro Max) hopefully the things wrong with the 20 will be fixed with the 21

I think we can say it is game over for Nokia. The only flagships were the Sirocco from 5!!! years ago and the Pureview.

I'm very disappointed with the removal of the SD card slot. While everything else looks great, it's baffling they did this. I'd rather get the Pixel 7a with a good case than this.

Thanks for the video. It's pity there's no longer lanyard support 😢 and also no wireless charging... And no more blue. Otherwise it's a good upgrade with the Xr20, but not for me...

Why doesn't Nokia use Zeiss cameras? Will Nokia phones have the same natural camera without Zeiss?

Yes. I was one of the people who wanted a smaller XR phone. I think I commented it in the past. ✅

I accidentally ran over my XR20 with a 3.5 tonne forklift. Still works fine.
I dont understand why these phones arent more popular.

Thanks for the comparison. It doesn't seem worthwhile for me to upgrade from the XR20 (I'm sort of waiting for the Motorola Defy 2...). Too bad Nokia didn't hop on the satellite connectivity. I agree with others---no wireless charging tips the scales away from the XR21. If I didn't have the 20, I'd probably get the 21. Similar to the S22 vs. S23 comparison. Just not worth the trouble. But I do like Nokia's low-profile rugged line. Those huge, industrial Chinese rugged phones are fun, but not practical.

XR20 differed in design from "regular" models. And XR21 simply copies the design of other series. Although the characteristics are not bad.

I mean it does have some nice features over the XR20. Size and weight, better processor and Esim support. But also a real step back. Not much of an upgrade on cameras, no wireless charging, Android 12. Personally if you already have a XR20, is it worth the upgrade given the price has increased here in the UK at least. I'm not so sure it is. I might just stick with my XR20.

I've been using this phone, Nokia 5.4 since September. 4, 2021 and right now it's kinda slower I think but I would still purchase a Nokia Phone in the future. Gosh! It's pretty and expensive as well hope to purchase this within the year. The bad this is, if it is available here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 most probably, the black color would be the one available and not the green one , I Love the green 💚 one it's so chic!!!😊😊😊

How come we're not reading any news about new Nokia phones coming. I've read an article that Nokia phones sales are down again. If they only make Nokia phones more affordable. Averagely, most don't care about specifications much as they change phones after two years or so. Also for you can get cheaper phones with the same specs as the mid range Nokia phones.

    Nokia Xr21 review?

  • @marstav4640
    @marstav4640 ปีที่แล้ว

Was hoping for an improvement...Sadly, an updated device does not make this is an upgrade. Some notable misses: No SD card,(very important) not better cameras (very important), no powerful LEDs. Wireless missing too, although not as important in my book, if there needs to be some cost reduction. I would prefer the older one but was waiting for the newer model. NokiaHMD needs to get more serious
