  • Part 6 of the Buzz Saw Makeover involves rebuilding the carburetor on the old Ford 800 tractor that's been sitting for 4 years or more.
    I'm not a professional tractor mechanic, just a guy that likes making them run and useful around the place. I don't claim to be extremely knowledgeable and sometimes am probably just plain wrong in my explanation. Enter at your own risk.
    This is mostly for entertainment purposes, because it entertains me.

    Just like a toilet, the float in the carburetor opens the valve until the float height inside the float bowl (pressure to shut off the valve), is met. Put a small magnet on the screwdriver shaft to hold tiny screws. Love the vid!

      Oh yeah...that's all they are, just a toilet bowl control..or an automatic dog waterer too. I use all kinds of tricks to hold a screw on the tip...even chewing gum !! Of course NOT on the inside of a carb though. Thanks for watching and for the tips today.

    Yet again tractorman44 does a great job of telling it how it is. It takes a humble man to admit he went a little bit awry but, a quick correction and all is great. Such a nice example of human nature. Off to give the MF135 some love tomorrow and drop out the back end oil as you demonstrated its necessary to “give the old gals some love”

      Well hopefully your days are not as dreary in the UK as they are in the Midwest of the good ol' USA the last few days. Thanks for the awesome comment sir and remember that ALL the ladies need a little lovin' on occasion.... But my specialty is really only with the rusty ones. Have you determined yet if your final drive/transmission sump is common to the hydraulic system yet? I'm thinking it is and if so you should never see anything like what was in that much older Massey of mine.

    where do you get your rebuild kits from? thanks

    • @tractorman4461

      We have two places locally where actual Ford components are available. Try Rippee's, I was just there three weeks ago. I believe they ship. www.loc8nearme.com/missouri/farmington/rippees-used-tractor-parts/4294672/ I also have a local farm store that sells generic kits, but they are notorious for not always being a perfect fit.

    I wanted to say in the denutting of the saw blade, that we have very similar SAFTEY equipment. Even have a few cords like yours for standing water. I did enjoy this rebuild! Gives one satisfaction getting something going again. Thanks 44 Friend! DaveyJO

    Looks like a winner Tractorman44 . Nice weather here today, cut down a Ash, Sugar Maple, and Cherry
    Today, ground to soft to pull out. Take care.

      Thank you sir. Raining here all day yesterday and supposed to be dreary today too. Shed time again... too nasty to be in the wood pile. Looks like you had a good day too, and I don't enjoy it wet in the woods either.

    Good info on the float! I walked out one morning and my old Ferguson 30 had dumped out a probably a gallon of gas due to the float took on gas over the years at a bad seam, and finally filled up and would not float!

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1rustytree yessir I’ve had that happen too. When they get logged with gas you can suck it out if you carefully blow a low pressure stream of air across the hole with an air nozzle. It will create a suction and draw it out but too high of air pressure will collapse the float.
      I’ve soldered up split seams and small pitted holes with a tiny iron. Then a fine points file to file it down to just a thin layer of solder. Too much solder and it’ll overload the float too. It’s a fine line that is not too hard to cross. Lol. New float time then.
      Thanks for watching and commenting and here’s hoping you got yours fixed sir.

    Nice rebuild. I like the way you address subjects. Very clear explanations. Quick question for you if you don't mind. I know MS carb had numerous variants. Mine is a TSX635 (Case 430) and it has a flap on the choke butterfly. Did you have one on yours? If so, is the flap supposed to open toward the inside of the carburetor or should it be the opposite? If you don't see what I mean, I have it in video at 8:23 in my video #97. I'd be glad to have some guidance, as this is one thing I never had a chance to find an answer for. Thanks in advance.

      Joe Lesage thank you for the great comment. The little spring loaded flap is supposed to open into the intake throat. What it does is provide just a little more air to lean out the almost pure atomized gas/vapor being pulled into the intake through the Venturi. It kinda keeps a little air passing through even at full choke. Does that answer your question well enough ?? I’m on an iPhone for the moment and it’s hard fir me to type. Lol. Thank you sir for subscribing.

    Great video. Awesome that you can still get rebuild kits for these old carbs.

      Heck yeah Wild Bill...we have numerous suppliers all across the US that manufacture millions of repair/rebuild parts for these relics. Some of the Chinese rebuild parts are a bit off tolerance and somewhat under par. Not all are bad though. Then there are tractor 'grave yards' all across the nation too.

    Thank you for the information on the float!. I suspect that the fuel level is wrong in my bowl, and I did not check the float.

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Float level is very critical as the depth of the fuel determine how much fuel is drawn into the intake by the suction of the manifold through the venturi. I hope you get it taken care of....too high and it will flood or flow out the overflow and too low will effect operation in 'off level' situations as well as under heavy load. Most settings are with the gasket in place.

      Thank you ma'am. I enjoy the fact that even though you are a lady you still like to peek into a guys dirty and greasy world and always seem to always find a kind word to say. Thank you for your interest and the time you take to watch and comment. Hope you too have a stellar day. We went to our twins kindergarten Christmas program last night....how are your twins doing?

      +Tractorman44 if only you knew how much I've done in my lifetime lol. My first husband was an auto mechanic. We built a Harley hog from scratch and pieces back in the 70's. I've done construction work, I've helped my last husband with sheet metal work, and the concrete roadway work lol. I've don't almost everything men have done in the line of work as well as women's work to raise my family. I'm sure y'all had a good time at the twins event. Our twins danced at the Christmas event last Saturday. They grow up so quickly and we can't stop it any more than when our kids were growing up lol. All my best to you, your wife, and your family for a wonderful Christmas!

      Alice, I must tell you that your comment elevated you to the second from the top of my list of favorite Grandmothers....second only to my own lovely wife, to clarify. lolol. Without a doubt you are high in the ranks of the 'cool chicks' as evidenced by your resume. I thank you for being such a consistent viewer and your continual supportive comments lend credence to my belief that you are genuinely a 'cool chick' !! I appreciate your input on all levels ma'am, and hope to not disappoint in the future.
      Thank you for the Christmas wishes and may the same be bestowed upon you and yours.

      All these old gals need a little tlc on occasion. Especially if they sit too long without draining this nasty oxygenated fuel they insist on producing nowadays. Isn't that a Continental Z-145 gas in that one? Thanks for watching. I'm sure you knew about the tsx tag.

    • @sgakla
      @sgakla 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tractorman4461 yes, its the Z145. I had seen others mentioning the tag but I havent checked to see what mine shows.
