Im the proud owner of an R56 JCW and will say that it's a pocket rocket. On oil consumption, a litre of oil every 1000 miles is normal. Do not neglect the maintenance, or you'll regret it. It's not without its issues either, but it's a great car which I've lovingly cared for the last 12 months of ownership. I recently did a stage 1 machine polish and the paintwork is like a mirror. I'm looking to go concours with it when I've completed a few little bits. As for seeing off BWM 320d's, I follow this philosophy, “Every Battle Is Won Before It Is Ever Fought” (Sun Tzu)
15:42 hits the nail on the head! I own one of these little nightmares... Never again! When it DOES work, though, it's great. It's the engine that really, really holds this car back, in performance, fuel economy *and* reliability.
I highly disagree on this. My personal experience with mine is not bad. I have n18 r56. -Got really screwed up by BMW decision to do a sandwich board for the LPFP took me a day to fix it. -Replaced coils, spark plugs, brakes, valve cover, top chain guide. -replaced hpfp -ECU failure due to wrong charger used on the battery (also who in the right mind is trying to charge battery when it's connected directly to the car - just me 😅) -thermostat, water pump and piping replaced - car is driving without any problems. I moved across Europe (Ireland to Germany), drove to and back Split in Croatia, multiple trips to Poland completed too. 3 years ownership, 40k km driven. Most stuff was replaced in the first 6mths of ownership as I went through countless forums to make sure I'm not getting stranded on the side of the road. These are princess cars - you have to predict what usually goes wrong in then and replace it before hand. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't feel overwhelmed by the use of tools. Also don't go to dealership for the servicing - Hpfp costs 400 And 30 minutes work to replace by myself. BMW wanted minimum 1.4k Past 2 years I averaged 8.6L/100km but living in Germany allows me to go on multiple top speed runs to and/or from work so car INHALES fuel then.
@@salassieIyoot you should get one but make sure it’s an n18 motor or newer.. n14 motors like my own are not the best maintenance wise but still a joy no less. R53 supercharger sounds amazing though.
Hi mate, just wanted to let you know - I've put a couple of POV videos up already and I'm currently working on the review which will be out this weekend. Can't express how much I appreciate the support 👊

I go back and watch this video with rose tinted glasses sometimes and that part always brings me right back to reality
