One funny thing was when you ask for direction from rural or forestry resident, made sure you look at their hand. Let said "here or over there" and their hand point to the sky, you expect about one day walk distance. If point to the ground, it was around where your stand. From these two points, you can estimate the rest of possible hand points and the distance. If they offered a stay in their home overnight, that meant it was too danger (from animal Ie. tigers) for your traveling during the time slot in question. If point at 12 o'clock, Oh boy and girl; walk for days!
