Late 80's to Mid 90's, when stuff was engineered to last! Cars, electronics, appliances. Damn I miss it :(
Not true since mine doesn’t work & I took perfect care of it my entire life.
@@drizztdourden666 What part of your gameboy doesn't work?
@Elite Gaming Gangsta Everything about it doesn’t work & it stopped working decades ago,i don’t have it anymore though.
@@drizztdourden666 Oh ok
wow the nostalgia this video gave me is severe. I remember watching this video over and over and over again when I was 11. Now I'm 16 and going back to this video made me remember my interests as a kid.
Still my favorite game boy system. Never gets old, mine's still in great shape, a forever keeper, and it brings the most joy and nostalgia.
Oh my god dude :( the memories, you have this 28 year old man in tears...i remember sliding that power button and seeing that nintendo logo scrolling down, play tetris for the first time :( oh man....
Every Game Boy video he finds a way to mention the AGS-101 SP...
We get it! XD
We've gotten to the point where any GameBoy can easily be modded with an IPS screen making the SPs lighting advantage irrelevant
@@RallyLancer95 , not everyone knows how to do that.
That's why I bought a pre modded one from eBay
That is unbelievable! That is in such pristine condition! It can't be real!
It is :^(. To be honest I was really sad that the only one I could find on google was more than 300 dollars.
Centipede bite me
RIP Nintendo Power and Game Boy... you will always be my time capsule... to the 80's and 90's
Wot they made an Mario Advance 3 and I got the old one
I remember when my mom bought me one of these before my family and I went on a trip across the country. This handheld system was quite fascinating at the time.
The old gameboy had a nice d-pad
Better than the newer ones
Commanderwolf74 So true.
The d-pad was great, only better d-pad I can think of is the sega genesis d-pad
It really did. And for me it was comfortable to hold
Garnet Bezanson but it won't play game boy color and game boy advance games 😢😢😢😢
I wanted one SO badly when I was a little kid. I remember playing Tetris on the display models the local department store had set up. Every time my mom went there to shop, I'd just stay glued to it. I remember sweating bullets because I'd have my forehead pressed to the top of the backlit display case. I hate to think how much many brain cells got cooked that way.
But my parents would NOT get me one for Christmas or my birthday, they seemed to firmly believe "EIGHTY DOLLARS? No child's happiness is worth that!" When I was ten I finally managed to save up my pocket money long enough to get one on my own. You'd THINK this is where I'd say how that was even more satisfying because I did it on my own. . .
. . . fuck that, I wanted it as a present! Then I could've saved up to buy games for it!
I feel sorry for you, and when your parents said that they where fucking dicks. At least you got one.
***** I was just joking with that "NO child's happiness is worth eighty dollars" line. ^_^
My dad WAS kind of a cheap ass, but he never said THAT.
nrrork Still.wmv
Anyway you can buy a used one in amazon for 24 dollars and 599 (yes 599, I'm not lying) for a new one. And holy shieet the games like super mario land are 299 dollars. Jesus
Matthew Cruz
No need, like I said, I did eventually save up my allowance for one. Again, you'd THINK that would have made it more meaningful because I got it on my own. . .
Nah, I was still pissed at having cheap parents.
I like how the screenshots on the box looks so good compared to the actual thing
Wow happy birthday to me because this video just showed my fav hand held. Thank you CGR for bringing this up
I had 3 of these when I was a kid. The first 2 I threw into the wall while getting pissed playing tetris cried briefly telling mommy I dropped them. The 3rd one I held on to for a very very long time until it crapped out several years ago.
Great System
Awesome Hal reference BTW
I just picked one of these up for $2 at a yardsale, one of my favorite game systems of all-time. Donkey Kong is the best game on the system!
Miss this channel so much
Just bought one on Ebay along with the Tetris game. Should get it next week. I am a collector so I can't wait for my first ever retro handheld
Same
i bought mine today and donkeykong land
i got it and its pretty good.
I still have my original GB that I got for Christmas in 1990. Still works like new.
+Big Boss As with all nintendo things they are built to last
Damn if I was a kid in the 80s I would want me a game boy and street fighter 2.
But I do have my NES :3
But donkey kong on this thing looks amazing.
street fighter 2 came out on the game boy in the mid 90's
Street fighter 2
Is a 90's game.
Memories, thanks for this!
Love this video, just got my first Gameboy today.
I miss the volume scrolling wheel ;_;
Don't mix batteries in game boy or use rechargeable!!!!!!!
thanks for finally getting the Gameboy review up here.... my Gameboy is in pristine condition and even has the headphones still sealed ;)
So sleepy.. but can't stop watching Classic Game Room videos!
4:33 COPYRIGHT STRIK!!!!! LoL
Lul
if any of you have kids you should buy them a gameboy from Amazon, & one of your favorite Gameboy games & that way they won't be all like "What that?"
I am 9 and is getting the thing in the video!!!!!!!??!!?!
TheSadRecruit same, although I do like halo
When you asked "Have you guys ever played this thing?" I suddenly felt very, very old, because I remember when this was brand new and my parents bought one for my brothers and later for me.
I was in Toys R Us when this was just released, and the adults didn't like it because it was "all green and weird".
Donkey Kong was one of my favorite games on it.
This was when Full House was the best sitcom ever.
Just like how so many people can stand to watch and still enjoy many old classic movies that are in black and white like the original classic, "The Day the Earth Stood Still". One of my favorite classics!
Maybe you aren't old enough to remember when the Gameboy and Game Gear were the only legitimate handheld systems. It was quite fascinating when it first came out. You can adjust the brightness if necessary. Nowadays, of course there is no reason of having one.
i´m from 2003, I REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELY REEEEEEEEEEELY WISH I WAS AN 80s kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
90s kid boy
90s
Nah, the 3DS is way better. Be happy you got that.
Nicholas Musick I don't really agree. I was an 80s kid and we were the ones who really remember when the Game Boy was new. I doubt someone born in the late 80s can remember that, because the original GB was released in 89 (or 90 in europe).
marcozg77 i got mine in the earily 90's the original so were not too far off
ME TOO. Can't agree more
HOLD ON, do you need the ac adapter or can you just replace the AA batteries when they got low?
alpha_child ya u can change the batteries
+Chris Jang that's what rechargeable AA batteries are for! XD
Bridget has been keeping it in our basement for years and years. I'm glad Mark was able to use it for a review.
It's like going back to 1989 and watching and watching an unboxing video!
the original game boy... out of date as handheld gaming technology can get but still better than the 2ds
Imponte Phoenix The 2DS isn't that bad. I have one. I have an eye issue so I can't see in 3D. I see everything in 2D, and walk into a lot of walls, so the 3DS which offers 3D, is useless to me, as the 2DS is cheaper, and other than losing the 3D effect, does the same thing.
Just another TH-cam channel vita better
"out of date as handheld gaming technology can get"
Nah, that'd be the Microvision or maybe Mattel Football.
Smoke Gaming Channel vita? Nothing compared to the switch or New 3DS XL
I love how clear and bright the "screen" is on the box...when the game boy screen didn't reach that level of clarity till the GB Pocket.
love your vids buddy
I remember the headphones had a red stripe and a blue stripe below opposite ear buds. Just awesome. :)
I still have my original GameBoy handheld! In fact, I recently played the 1989 version of "Tetris" on it and wrote a review about that game!
Nice review of the old school GameBoy!
I remember playing the gameboy in the 80s i was really loved the game alleyway for some reason...
That is a beautiful Gameboy, I still have mine and play it from time to time.
All your console reviews should be like this - showing what the output of the console is like by using a couple different games so we can get an idea of it.
that box cover is so cool!!
I had one that was see-through, doesn't work too well today but somehow still works. Loved it as a kid.
you sir have pleased me with your usage of jettison
thank you ;)
The best review ever!
I had one of the fat old school Game Boys as a kid. I remember I had an addon for it that would clip on, it had a magnifying glass and a light on it. It was awesome as all Hell.
Great review, as always.
that 'on' screen brings back awesome memories!
The Gameboy is absolutely indestrucable! Mine got rolled over by a car, fell into a pool, and got tossed down the stairs by my nephew and little brother. Still works.
It’s been years since I last watched classic game room. I’m gonna tell my kids “I grew up on CGR”
I love your videos.
Late 80's to Late 90's, It's still my favorite Game Boy system of all-times. The Game Boy plays Game Boy and black-colored Game Boy Color cartridges that look like this. And back in the day during the Game Boy's lifespan (1989-1999), they came in boxes that look like this.
Wow, really takes me back :D
Dear god, when the Tetris music started playing, all these beautiful memories of gaming days past flooded back! :)
This is great stuff. I wish I still had mine and all the games I had with it. :(
That we could play games like this from 1989 is amazing !
i been waiting for this video...
Such an amazing device to a kid like I was when it came out!
Watching while playing my 2ds,my first Nintendo handheld was the purple gameboy advance then the sp,since then I've been hooked and love their handhelds
That box looks fantastic.
Haha, perfect review Marky Mark from the future!
Totally felt a dose of nostalgia when I saw that Nintendo logo scroll down from the top after he switched it on.
I have the same, in the same box. cool retro design.. what a pearl!
Never had one of these since i was born in 93 but i did have the redesign and man did i love that thing.
I've always wanted to have one of this... I still want one of this..
Man, Ioved my Gameboy. The hours of fun I got from that!
this brings back ALOT of memories Pokemon Red, Tetris and some other games
I remember when I got one of these for Christmas, so many years ago lol.
Marvelous piece of equipment.
this was the system that made me a gamer. i have fond memories of it.
I LOVE THIS BOX ART!
this was a realy good revew
Tetris Title theme, loved it back in the day. Haha I remember I use to plug in earphones just for music listening. Haha, I still do that from time to time.
wow the sound back then was great!
Having a little reminisce ❤ I still need one of these! I have every other iteration of the GB but this one eludes me. I must change this.
Insert cartridge, output fun!
I gave my Gameboy to my aunt a few yrs. before she passed away. This thing is still a badass
I got a Gameboy on my 11th birthday, which was last month. I love these things.
the Game Boy Camera, what fun :D
anyone else here remember exactly when this came out? and how we were all enthralled with having one? i was 6 when i got my very first game boy and i played it for ATLEAST 7 years. now day kids who are growing up have all these different choices and don't remember the past systems which paved the way for devices like the 3DS or Vita. i'm proud to be a classic gamer and grateful that i grew up back when the NES was the next big thing to have. P.S. CGR ROCKZ!!!
That’s awesome!
I still have mine and a massive collection. Best portable gaming console ever.
The GameBoy Color with Pokemon Red & Silver is what got me into gaming! God I loved that thing, and I remember how everyone in class had pokémon battles during lunch breaks.. Never had as much fun with a gaming console then with the Gameboy.
I still love playing my original gameboy
I extremely enjoy playing tis I love it
i still got one of these and it still works fine
Just bought one of these online, it looks exactly same condition at yours! :D
Ahhh the memories of the man bringing this to skool haha
Wow, that is one stylish box.
My dad still has his. For its time it was freaking awesome.
Love the headphone's dance!!!!!!!!!!
I have one of those its pretty awesome dude
Great review as always. But I have a clear plastic Game Boy, YAY!!!
Awesome 👏🏻 😎
man i still have one of these things there awesome :D
Those things were built to last. I still have mine, and it still works.
Finally something really classic to me :)
Nostalgia attack!!
I teared a little when you opened it
The couple who loaned the Gameboy, kept it in very excellent condition. Mark, you made the Gameboy sound so elegant and worth so much more, especially in this HD world we live in. I'm glad the handheld should be retired, because I love to look back at the old consoles and see where my gaming life came from.
I love your bgm, wish it was louder though lol
Awesome username!
those were so badass
