She's also the only reason Marius goes to the barricades, because he thinks Cosette has left him (Cosette and Valjean moving away was also Eponine's doing) and he is in so much pain he doesn't want to live without her... As much as Eponine loved Marius, her love was selfish while Cosette's love was pure/innocent.
In the books she was a horrible character. Both she and her sisiter. Just as much as their parents. It's one thing I don't understand about the musical version. Other movies portrayed her a bit closer to the books.

The same way when Anne sang "I dreamed a dream" they're both amazing singers & you can tell that by other things they've featured in - Samantha was eponine at the 25th anniversary & hit every note crystal clear! This version however is based more on the emotions of what's just happened more so than if she can hit the notes. One of the best performances I've seen of this song, well done Sam x

After taking my parents to watch this live at Milton Keynes i watched at the end as my father with advanced parkinsons disease stood up without his cane and gave a round of applause, its a moment that will live with me till i die, goosebumps, tears, joy amazing show, just amazing.
In the book, the love story between Marius and Cosette is more heart-felt and well built. Marius is honorable in Hugo's original work. In this, Éponine is a more sympathetic figure, Marius is kind of an asshole, and for fuck's sake, what Marius and Cosette have in the musical isn't love- it's infatuation! That said, Samantha Barks has a beautiful voice.
The trick is to make it into a series. If you do a five-season show, you can cover each part in a season, flesh out the characters, and properly tell the story. Look at "Game of Thrones."
Sam and Anne made this film for me. Both have amazing voices and stole the show. Also, Sam is in my top three actresses to play Elphaba in the Wicked movie.

However, in the movie I feel they did not show enough of Eponine's love for Marius to allow us to really understand her sadness and emotion. The way that the camera operators set up the lighting so that you can see the rain clearly in the shot, while maintaining soft focus on a woman who is moving around constantly is just remarkable. The people working the cameras on this film didn't get nearly as much credit as they deserved.
