Live Edge River "Zipper" Table A Woodworking How-To

  • Watch and learn how to make a Live Edge Slab Coffee Table with a "Zipper"/ Inlaid Stitches in the center. In this video I show you the steps i took to break down the materials and make this piece of awesome statement furniture using fairly basic woodworking techniques.
In my new workshop I have a large showroom that will be shared and occupied with my buddy Seth, who is the owner of Toll Gate Revival, Which is a vintage goods and design company. We've been friends for a while now and wanted to combine forces. In the new show room I wanted to place a couple pieces, and I immediately thought to use live edge and help show off some of my favorite styles of work. I obviously took this build to another level. But, with that, this look is really cool and there is some awesome techniques in it that can apply to a broad spectrum of woodworking.

Nice John. Very nice. I just made a bench similar to this with two live edge slabs. But I used a jig purchased from Blacktail Studio, to make the “bow ties” to stick the two together. Using my handheld router to make the bow ties first out of 1/2” stock, then cut the “negatives” into the slabs using the same jig but with a different collar. Worked quite well.

    John,
This was very creative. The combination of woods coupled with the geometric base and the live edge is extremely artistic.
    Great build!
