I did smile when out came the beans i have done that a few times, When you started cutting that big log I thought holy smokes he is going after some big fire wood.
Good dry hazel makes amazing feather sticks, it rotts so quickly though and so often much of the dead stuff isn't nice and structural like that and is always spongey, but when it seasons just right its amazing material. (Im guessing that was hazel, that what it looked like lol)

fyi tins of beans have a plastic liner so not best to stick directly on fire
