this was when super saiyan was still a spectacle to behold, too. Super saiyan 2 shouldve been the pinnacle, and only gohan shouldve had access to it considering how much they talked up his laten potential. I loved the buu saga, but i truly think dbz wouldve ended perfectly at the cell games. Especially with goku giving the reigns to gohan from heaven and refusing to be reborn because he wants the world to be safe and able to protect itself.
Akira wanted it to end at the buu saga but due to some issues he had to change the story and some parts were still left out that’s why there are some best moments like vegeta’s arc because the original plan of toriyama was to make it his magnum opus
Goku: "Heeeeey! I remember you! General Tao, remember me? It's Goku. We use used to fight way back when? Ahh man.. good times. Good times." General Tao: *[ Violent PTSD Vietnam war flashbacks ]*

Tao is that one guy who won’t shut up about fighting at bars , parties and work usually loud af around normal people but when a trained fighter shows up they don’t talk about fighting anymore ( don’t want that real fighter smoke ) goku is the real fighter showing up being respectful

He was trying hard to control himself from going berserk. Back then if u are in ssj form, ur characteristics also changes, u will more likely to cause more dmg to the surroundings. Of course this eps is just a filler, but in the manga goku still had this conversations with gohan. So technically this is a filler that is also 'canon' at least to toriyama's principle. But Toriyama abandoned this idea when goten and trunks can transform. They transform while smiling, which is not the original emotion everytime ssj transformation takes place.
