- Let's practice the male body, starting with the most generic shape. Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes, but I thought itd be smart to start with the most opposite from my go to body type which is usually on the more extreme feminine side. Here's to learning and expanding our artistic vocabulary!

Is there something you avoid drawing because you are scared of how it will turn out? Body Types, Backgrounds, Etc? It can be scary that the only way to improve is to face your problems head on and stare down your ugly first attempts. I feel you.

DrawingWiffWaffles I usually avoid guys, especially the post-puberty ones. I’m pretty sure I can do with little kids but grown ups are a challenge😂
oh boi. I make comics, but backgrounds are not my forte. I know basic things like point perspectives, but things like details and color balance confuse me. but I love making comics, so I gotta do it. and looking back at my past work, I can really see how far I've come. I still don't like how my backgrounds look, but I've improved a lot since I started. I hope they'll intimidate me less as I go on
Like me drawing hands , the one sketch I made a tucked the hands behind the person and the started drawing very very VERY.......'unique' hands and now I don't have a problem with drawing normal hands...the one thing that scares me the most to draw is .......guys because some my friends who are guys ask me to draw them and I'm like......well your going to a very 'unique' portrait😂 but I like how all my classmates ask me to draw them because it's great practice and the expressions I get from them is so exotic if I say!😂
Orientation nipples are going to be my excuse for drawing people topless from now on. No more grossed out comments for me!

this is true... the hair is also generally easier to draw too. the hairline is half the job, and most of the time the style does not need to be too fancy as most men dont give a F what their hair looks like.

In anatomy class we only draw males because, male and female anatomy is (mostly) the same, just woman are fatter, with less muscle)
Noxillius the anatomy is very similar. Minor differences such as wider pelvis, smaller skull.

Am I the only one who is more likely to draw men (or women, if you're more comfortable drawing men) in one specific body type?
I have found that while I do avoid drawing men most of the time, when I do draw them, it's almost exclusively guys who are skinny and/or tall, so they have much lankier proportions even without a lot of exaggeration. I either search for photo references of those body types, or draw youtubers, singers, actors, etc. I follow with that male body type.
It's not only weirdly specific, but it's not even like it's closest to the anatomical proportions I know!

I really really hate drawing guys. I can do faces, but I really struggle with some hairstyles and bodies. I avoid drawing them because guys aren’t as fun to draw and because I never draw them so I’m not very good
I will never understand the idea that men are not fun to draw. Its simply absurd to me. Do you have any idea how interesting male musculature is? I guess drawing the same thin, pretty white girl again and again is soooooo fun for some people.
My girls aren’t all white girls, I do have a mix 😊 But personally
I find girls more interesting because I like to draw my girl characters in exciting outfits, accessories, hairs styles and shoes. I could draw guys in more exciting outfits, but I never feel like it. I choose to draw girls because thats just what I enjoy. I don’t draw things I don’t enjoy drawing. Just like you don’t like to draw girls, I don’t like to draw men as much. (I do and have drawn men, so I don’t avoid them completely but I don’t do it often)
@Kydda TM i was not referring to her specifically but rather to youtube artists generally. Every fucking artist draws girls. But not fat girls, oh no. Sometimes not even black girls or arab girls. Just the same boring conventionally attractive, thin white girl. Exactly the stereotype of what our culture considers beautiful, what a coincidence.

It is ridiculous. Although I guess it leads to the question of why can't people draw guys with cool clothes or accesories. Oh right because then they would look "feminine" and we can't have that! Boys have to be masculine!
UGH. Look Im not attacking you. Im just tired of a society that tells us some bodies are inherently more beautiful than others and the people who buy that without question
I’m not even saying anyone is unattractive? I just prefer drawing girls like some people prefer drawings animals. I think my guys even end up looking feminine sometimes because I’m not the best at drawing them. (Which isn’t a bad thing but you can see that I like drawing females in my art more) Also if someone only draws girls, let them! It’s jjust art! Let someone create, how they want to create. Different things inspire different people, but that doesn’t mean they don’t like a certain gender (or thing)

Learning the basic shapes and the way to put them together kind of helps. Once you know how to draw those, its just about finding them in reference pictures and sticking them together in a way that best represents what you are trying to draw.

This was so helpful! Thank you so much Rin. I’ve avoided drawing humans (not any specific gender) just because I felt I wasn’t good at it. This video really showed me how you go about trying to learn something new in art.
I’ve realized that I always just try to do a super great super detailed thing when I try something new, which obviously won’t turn out very well if I never draw it.

I know you asked for pinterest keys buuut I know a website that's helpful too. Quickposes.com you can save the poses you like, its a life drawing website so it might not fit what you want perfectly but is still great references.
Quickposes is a great site! I've used it in school when I needed to practice anatomy. I should bookmark it now.

I love these times of videos because I can draw with you. I don't draw guys enough, so it's nice to have these videos inspire me.
When drawing poses I usually draw two lines for the spine, sometimes if they're really twisted up or in an awkward position I even draw the spine as a 3D rectangle, prism, box, whatever so I can see how the body is turned and flesh it out that way. I do the same for the limbs as well because it just aids in getting a turn or bend just right.
You know the best part of the art community? Every time i watch a video from one artist there are always comments from other art TH-camrs being so supportive and interacting no matter how popular they are. waffles is one of the best about this. Makes me so happy

THIS. This is honestly a phenomenal example of how to do a study!! Sharing your thought process, saying before each sketch what you are wanting to learn, how you’re getting there, a quick critique at the end of each, and then you move on to another sketch with a new goal for growth in mind and a plan to get there (different pose, using pen instead of pencil) and you did SUCH a great job of explaining how+why you switched stuff up and what you learned from each progression. I feel like if someone I knew was trying to learn to get better at drawing something, I’ll link them to this video. Some ppl make it sound like “if you draw 7,000 pineapples, one day you’ll draw pineapples like a master” which is true, but kinda useless? If you wanna master drawing something, you don’t just draw it on auto a million times. You do what you just spent this video doing. Intentional practice, challenging your comfort zones in specific ways, and looking to learn something with each sketch. Awesome job, @drawingwiffwaffles seriously💕💕

something that really helped me and still helps me when im stuck for a particular muscle or pose is to look at anatomy references.
What's helped me with male anatomy is wwe wrestling. I'm a fan watching it anyways and one day it clicked that the videos &pics available are great reference of all different male body types.

Oh gosh, when was the last time I drew a guy? Uhh... Ten years ago? Yeah, I think that’s right. (Tbh it’s more like a year or so) I’m absolutely terrible at drawing them and if I do, they all look like girls or women. I didn’t really practice drawing them, I really should though. :D

i find dynamic movement refs really helpful early on because it really helps me figure out not only how the body parts look in general, but how they look and move and contract and what's natural vs. my unnatural mistakes

I mainly draw girls, and this may sound weird as I’m a boy, but there’s just so much more ideas, like different hair, outfits, shoes and faces, a lot more variety and although that isnt always the case, I just prefer drawing them, maybe I’ll be like waffles and only draw spiderman/ superhero males 🤣🤣

My brother's the exact opposite XD he draws mostly GIRLS! And boys, sometimes.
Im a guy and draw almost exclusively girls. I find it hard to draw "normal" guys, i dont like drawing ripped body builder dudes.
